Modern day retelling of “Beauty and the Beast”***Recommended for ages 18+ due to multiple, creative, detailed, steamy, sexy-time adult situations.***

For a thousand years, Chace has searched for a way to break the curse placed on him by a jilted lover. He’s a dragon shifter, one who can’t control when the magic will force him into a different form. He’s already lost everyone he ever cared about a few times over and doesn’t know how much longer he’s meant to suffer.

At his wit’s end, he makes a deal with a mysterious figure that offers him what he wants most – an end to his misery – in exchange for everything that’s his: His life, his power. His heart.

The next day, he meets Skylar, a modern day dragon slayer whose mission is to cage him – or kill him. Sexy, witty and brave, she is the yin to his yang, the woman destined to break the curse, balance his magic and make his broken heart whole.

Except it’s too late. Not only has he sealed his fate, but an innocent one-night-stand with Skylar has dragged her into the middle of a deal with the devil, one she won’t escape, if he can’t convince her that dragon shifters aren’t her enemies.

Review:

I was gifted this book for an honest review by the author.

Charred Heart is a tantalizing dragon shifter read. I undoubtedly have an addiction to shifters. It used to be that my heart steered towards were’s but now I have a new found love of dragons. I love the heat that Lizzy creates with this book and the introduction of Chace, a one thousand year old Dragon. He is moody, sexy and comical- the greatest collection of male traits. We also meet Sky- Dragon hunter who has her own level of sarcasm that fits well in the dialogue between the two characters.

I love that Lizzy leaves the mind guessing when it comes to the plot. There were so many times reading this book that I thought I had it all figured out, but then Lizzy snaps me right back to reality. Her mind is just amazing when she creates these fantasy worlds. She weaves just the right amount of comedy, sex, and mystery to make me keep coming back for more. I cannot wait for book two to see how this pizza date turns out! I give this book 5 fangs. New Adult Paranormal

Skylar is being hunted by the very people she used to trust. Stung by Chace’s betrayal, she struggles to keep one step ahead of the slayers while digging deeper into the past she doesn’t remember for answers. Her heart belongs to Chace, but she won’t be fooled by him again, not when the price of trusting him could cost more than their lives.

Chace got what he wanted – freedom from the curse – only to discover he’s given up much more than the power he didn’t want. He’s lost the woman who holds the other half of his heart. Exiled and powerless, he’s all that stands between her and the danger tracking both of them. To save her, he must prove himself worthy of her heart and trust and find a way to recover the magic he traded to become human.

Review:
Chace is now free? The thing about freedom, is that what you thought it would be isn’t always what you end up with. Chase has so much pride that he knows he has fucked up, but now is struggling with the simple thing of how to go forward after making the worst mistake of his life. Sky is forced to come to grips with knowing that the man she loves has chosen freedom over her. This coupled with the betrayal of everyone she trusted and coming face to face with people she should not be seeing again.
This book was well written to the point that I stayed entranced from beginning to end. The author weaves a web of deceit so deep that your emotions are pulled fifty ways from Sunday. At the end, you really end up screaming screw you Lizzy, how could you do that to us again! I give this five fangs and cannot wait for book three.

Skylar struggles to save both the shifters and the slayers, but falls prey to the mastermind behind the disappearances of both. With a price on her head and her allies dwindling, she will survive only if she trusts Chace once more. She loves her dragon but fears the man inside will betray her again. Will she take a chance on him or try to face their common enemy alone?

Chace’s magic has not yet resurfaced, and he suspects it’s because he’s meant to earn back all he callously traded away – including Skylar’s love. Before their tenuous relationship can grow, he must learn what it means to put the life of another ahead of his own. But he must learn quickly or he risks losing Skylar and those she’s destined to protect.

Review:
This book jumps in right where book 2 left off. It was a seamless start into Sky in the grips of her enemy. She realizes that she has to make some tough decisions if she is going to save everyone. While she loves Chace, he has made so many mistakes in her mind that it is difficult to trust him again. Chace is still struggling with proving himself and knows that the only way to get his magic back is to sacrifice his pride for the greater good, how does he do that though?
Wow, this book was quite the roller coaster, bringing new surprises that really kept the reader tied into the book. I absolutely could not put this down, wondering, are they going to make it? I was pleased with the finish of the book, leaving the option to explore more titles but with closure so that if another doesn’t come, the reader is not left with any nagging questions. I did feel that this book was amazing, but could use a little more fine tuning with editing. It was not overbearing enough to dock points but with such a well established author, I almost expect perfection because that is what Lizzy brings to us. Five fangs.

Review:

I would rate this book  3 fangs

Mask of the Swan from (The Fearless) series was about immortals and a great war with a evil, want-to-be queen Elisabeth. We find ourselves reintroduced to, Ring, Waleska, and Risa. We are also introduced to a few new friends to help keep Elisabeth from reaching her goal.

This book was a good SciFi read. It had a lot of details for each of the characters so you got to know each one inside and out. For me it was a little too much detail. It was a bit wordy, just something that I’m not into. However the book paints a great picture in your head and you really do feel like you know everyone. Its a good story and I would recommend it if you enjoy reading a book full of details and action.

Bio:

Born in 1968, I discovered fishing
shortly after walking, a boon considering I lived in South Florida.  I had the good fortune to attend high school in idyllic Upstate New York, where I learned the meaning of winter– and how to seize the whole of summer.

After two or three failed attempts at college, I bought a pub. That was fun, because I love beer. However, I eventually met someone smarter than me (a common event), but in this case, she
married me and convinced me to go back to school — which I did, with great enthusiasm. I hold a Master’s Degree in History, and live near Nashville, Tennessee with the aforementioned wife, son, and a herd of various critters. When I’m not writing, I teach history, grow wildly enthusiastic tomato plants, and restore my 1967 Mustang.

Chapter #1

I ran my hand along her naked arm as I moved toward the bindings that had her securely fastened to my wrought iron, four-poster bed. She’d been tethered there for over thirty minutes, and now that the sex was over, I imagined her arms and legs were probably beginning to ache as the adrenaline left her body.
Miss No-Name Brunette rubbed her arms and legs after I released her. I didn’t need or want to know her name. I’d never see her again so what was the point.
She watched me gather my clothes; her eyes roaming appreciatively over my body.
“So, John, when can I see you again? You’re amazing.” She licked her plump lips as her eyes traveled over my naked body,
stopping when she noticed the nasty scars on my left shin. Small gray eyes darted to mine, and I saw the pity setting in. Pity was a deal breaker for me.
“We can’t,” I said and threw her clothes on the bed.
“Why?” Her bottom lip jutted out in disappointment. “Didn’t you enjoy yourself? You seemed to be having a great time.”
“It was fine, uh—”
“Nancy. My name is Nancy.”
I shrugged. “Right. Nancy. I don’t do repeat performances. Ever.”
“But—”
“Don’t take it personally. It’s just the way things are.”
Her eyes narrowed, and she scowled at me. Then, she climbed off the bed and pulled on her clothes. “I don’t understand.
Are you married or something?”
“Nope. Not married or anything else that concerns you. I’m just not interested. Tonight was great. Really. I enjoyed the shit out of myself. Fucking you was exactly what I needed. Thanks.”
“How am I supposed to get home? I left my car at the club,” she whined.
“There’s a cab waiting to take you anywhere you want. I’ve already paid the fare.” I shrugged again. This was the bothersome part of operating this way. They always wanted to see me again, and my answer was always no.
“I should have known when you wouldn’t kiss me there was something wrong with you. I bet your name isn’t even John. Do you
even live here?” Whatever-her-name yanked on her shoes, and then stood with her arms crossed over her chest.
“No, I don’t live here. And, darlin’, my name is whatever you want it to be.”
“Asshole.”
“Come on, now. We both had fun.” I flashed her my megawatt smile. “I’m pretty sure you came at least three times. It’s all good, and now, it’s all over.”
I walked to her side and gently took her arm, guiding her to the door.
“But I let you restrain me!” She stamped her foot as I opened the front door.
“You did and wasn’t it fun? Maybe you can find a man that will be as adventurous. Now, off you go, Sally. Bye, bye.”
“Nancy!” she shouted as I closed the door on her. I could still hear grumbling as she walked away.
“Ugh.” Leaning against the door, I let out a long sigh. It would be a while before I could go back to that club. Too bad it ended the same every time. But I understood why. Women saw me as a catch. I knew I was attractive. It wasn’t conceit, either. It was a fact of life that
all men of the Hamil family were hot.
My first year in the NFL, I was on the cover of Sports Illustrated as the Sexiest Man in Football. That cover, and the other endorsements I had, made me a nice amount of cash, so I was totally good with being an object of desire. Since they didn’t really know me, they didn’t know that I was nowhere as attractive on the inside.
I went back to the bedroom, washed and put the toys away, locking the drawer. Then, I stripped the bed, piling the sheets on the floor for the maid service to take care of.
I left, not knowing when I’d come back. Could be the following day. Could be two weeks from now. But tonight, I’d been out of fucking control—chomping at the bit to blow off some steam. In fact, I still hummed with energy.
Fuck!
My shadow-self pressed in on me for days. When I got like this, only one thing helped: acting out. So, I’d gone to the club in search of the first remotely available Nancy, Sally, or whoever, that didn’t revolt me. Nancy had been an easy mark. I hadn’t been there ten minutes
before I’d bought her a drink, and we were out the door, heading to the apartment I kept specifically for this purpose. I was always happy when I found a woman willing to dabble in a little bondage. I wasn’t heavily into the BDSM scene, but knew how to wield pain for the ultimate pleasure.
If I stopped and thought about it, I’d be forced to acknowledged just how screwed up my life had become. So I didn’t. I didn’t think about all the nameless women I had fucked in the last six years, and how I hadn’t been in a relationship since the injury. These exchanges served a purpose. Beyond that? Well, there was nothing beyond that.
But that didn’t mean I had become so jaded I’d forgotten how to get a woman off. I enjoyed women. Loved the soft curves of
their body, and loved making them come. There was nothing hotter than watching a woman writhe and squirm as I fucked her closer to orgasm. The sound of her screaming what she thought was my name was music to my ears, but that was as far as it went.
The reality was, I was a mess, and I didn’t want that advertised.
Actually, I was far worse than just a mess; I was fucking broken.
Sometimes, I wondered if I was even capable of having a normal relationship. Truth was, I waited for someone that didn’t exist. A woman my pain-wracked brain conjured that day on the football field. To make matters worse, she wasn’t even of age. She was a young woman, maybe fifteen or sixteen, with the most beautiful sable-brown eyes and blonde hair I’d ever seen. Her face was sweet, kind, and compassion filled. I realized how creepy this sounds. I wasn’t a sick fuck who preyed on young girls, and I had no idea why my mind created her. But all I knew was, if I ever discovered she was real, I’d do anything to have her.
I rubbed my aching leg, and then climbed into my Viper. God, I loved this car. She was all power and beauty, and driving her made me happy. I revved the engine and closed my eyes, loving the purr, and sometimes roar of her V10.
Once on route 101, I opened her up, pushing her past the century mark on the speedometer. It was crazy to be weaving in and
out of traffic on the main freeway. I was asking to be pulled over, but again,I didn’t care. In fact, I pressed her harder and watched as the needle climbed to 110. The concentration it took to control this machine exhilarated me. Still wound up and looking to banish my shadow-self the only way I knew how, I pushed her just a little more. Why fucking for over an hour didn’t do the trick, I had no idea. But if I didn’t burn this energy off before I got home, sleep would be out of reach. It wouldn’t do to start a new job at one of the country’s most prestigious law firms red-eyed and tired. Once home, I intended to take a long, hot shower, and then smoke a few bowls. Hopefully, I’d emerge tired enough to sleep. For a while, maybe I’d find peace until the nightmare returned that plunged me into my own personal hell.
A hell that I was used to. A hell that only she brought me out of.
The morning announced itself in its usual fashion. I jolted awake screaming, and drenched in sweat—the images as clear as the day they happened.
“Fuck!” I yelled to the empty room.
Pushing myself back against the headboard,  I rubbed my leg, trying to make the pain go away. The image of her lovely face and those amazing sable-brown eyes chased the nightmare away, but my body still buzzed with the memories.
I looked over at the bong and lighter on my bedside table and sighed. Just once, I wished I didn’t have to numb myself to start the day.
Before giving in, I ran my hand over my damp collar-length hair, removing the waves sticking to my moist neck. I used to keep it short for this very reason, but I liked the way it looked longer.
As I always did, I picked up the bong and  lit the bowl with the lighter. The glow of the burning weed, and the sound of the bong gurgling as I took a hit immediately calmed me. I inhaled deep and held the smoke in my burning lungs.
My long exhale sent a plume of smoke into the dawn-lit room. It floated for a second before dissipating, leaving behind the tangy smell of burning weed.
With my eyes closed, I slowed my heart rate and rapid breathing. The high kicked in, and I already felt the calm take over. I hated being so weak, and hated that what happened almost six years ago continued to affect and define my days. I used to be the epitome of discipline.
Not anymore.
If I could let go of the self-blame, then maybe the dreams would abate. But night after night, I replayed the game and its never changing end.
At twenty-two, I had been one of the hottest quarterbacks in the NFL, playing for the Arizona Cardinals. The year prior, we’d made it to the NFC Championships, losing by a field goal.
The next year, we were back in the same position, with the golden ticket to the Super Bowl within our reach. The only thing standing in our way was the Philadelphia Eagles. I snarled as I thought about that team. I always snarled at the thought of them.
Two minutes remained on the clock, and we were on the ten-yard line on third down. I dropped into the pocket, searching the field for an open receiver. I danced this way and that as if my movements might slow the clock. With no receiver available, I sucked in a breath and
decided to go for it. What I should have done was thrown it out of bounds and stopped the clock. That would have been the smart move—the safe move. We had one more chance. I had to make it happen. The year had to end in a run for the Super Bowl.
Running like a man on fire with the ball cradled against me as if I carried a newborn baby, I headed for the end zone. But I wasn’t a running back, that wasn’t what I had been trained for. Stupidly, I ran with my head down instead of up. As a result, I didn’t see the three-hundred pound linebacker heading my way. I was the man with the ball, and I had left the protection of my offensive line, which made me fair game.
The next thing I knew, I was laid out on the ground in extreme pain. When I looked down at my left leg, I was surprised—and not—to see it angled in an unnatural position. I knew then that I was well and truly fucked.
I tried to scream, but my voice failed me. Pain and the smell of the turf below me was all there was.
The hit was dirty, straight up. Later, I found out a bounty of $5,000 had been issued for any player that took out one of my knees. I hoped he got a bonus because he’d gone above and beyond his mandate. Not only did I miss a season, my football career was over. Instead of
taking out my knee, his helmet, and the power behind it, he hit my shin and shattered my tibia and fibula.
I remembered lying on the ground as the trainers and medical staff attended me. Chaos had broken out around me. Players fought, and coaches and referees argued.
I needed to find peace from the commotion; needed to concentrate on something other than the excruciating pain coming from my leg. I turned my head and found a pair of big, sable-brown eyes, surrounded by golden-blonde hair, staring at me. She was beyond beautiful, and her eyes were mesmerizing. I had conjured an angel.
In my hallucination, we shared an instant connection. When all around I saw pity and remorse, in her eyes, I found solace and compassion—a kindred soul to my loss. The need to help, and her inability not to, showed in the tears falling down her face, and the trembling of her full red lips. My heart still clenched whenever I thought about it.
As conjurings go, I had created a whopper. When I thought back on it, I knew there was no way she could be real. The average person wouldn’t have been allowed to get so close to an injured player on the field. Hell, my girlfriend, who’d been sitting in the stands, wasn’t
allowed on the field. It still baffled the shit out of me that my mind had created such a vivid image.
I could still see her brushing tears from her eyes in my hallucination, and I remember her taking a small step forward. I wanted her to come closer, to touch me. That was where the hallucination ended, stopped by a new streak of pain that had traveled through my leg, sending me into momentary blackness. When I opened my eyes, my blonde-haired beauty with soul-filled eyes had disappeared. All I had left was the image of her that pulled me from my terror every morning. I figured she’d probably be around twenty or twenty-one by now if she were real. I’d admit, that even today, I looked for those eyes in every blonde I encountered.
Pathetic. Yeah. Too fucking pathetic.
I sighed and took two more hits off the bong. Maybe one too many, but at least now I felt more balanced, controlled, and ready to start the day.
What the world saw now was a man who graduated from Harvard Law School, summa cum laude, and worked for almost three
years at a top law firm in Boston. Some of the country’s top law firms had courted me, and I had my pick of firms. But I decided to come back to Arizona, the place where my life changed forever.
Gingerly, I climbed out of the bed and headed for the pool. I didn’t bother putting on swim trunks; swimming naked was awesome. After a few stretches, I dove into the pool and swam laps for an hour. Swimming kept me in shape, though not the shape of an NFL football player.
Those days were gone.
Finishing my laps, I headed for the shower, feeling excited, like something huge would happen today. The last time I had this feeling, something huge happened all right. I looked at my leg and scowled as sudsy water washed over my angry scars.
I dried off and walked into my closet, surveying the suits I had to choose from. I was somewhat of a clotheshorse—always had been. Today, I picked a black Hugo Boss suit, white shirt, and black, silk tie. In the mirror before me, I watched a professional, seemingly together man tie his tie. It was a lie of course, but one I was used to.
Once dressed, I went to the kitchen and packed up a brownie in a plastic bag to take with me. I’d gotten good at baking brownies. But these weren’t just any chocolaty treats. These had a kick. Cliché I know, but hey, whatever got me through the day. Whether I’d partake in it
depended on how the day went. Obviously, smoking at work wasn’t a good idea. But every now and then, the pain became unbearable. If a handful of ibuprofen didn’t do the trick, the brownie would. I refused to take pain meds. Those things did a number on my brain.
I put the brownies away, and all the paraphernalia of my coping mechanism, and locked them in a cabinet in the pantry. I didn’t need Hannah, my housekeeper, finding them. She probably wouldn’t care, but I did.
Thinking of Hannah made me laugh. I’d only met her twice, but we had developed an odd, sometimes hilarious, texting relationship. I really liked her. Her cooking was amazing, and she kept my home perfect.
Her work was about to increase, and I was thrilled. My brother was bringing my dog, Ben, home to me. He had been with Brody in Colorado for the last two months while I got settled. I couldn’t wait to see both of them. Thinking about it made me giddy. I knew Ben would love it here. There was plenty of room for him to run. Bernese Mountain dogs needed lots of exercise. I almost didn’t get him because of that. Now, I couldn’t imagine my life without him. He got my ass outside and stopped me from being such a hermit. If I thought about the fact that my best friend was a dog, I would get bummed. But then again, fuck it! I loved my dog, and I had missed him terribly.
I doled out my handful of vitamins and four ibuprofen into my hand, and then popped them into my mouth. From the fridge, I pulled out a bottle of OJ, taking large swigs from the bottle.
Let the day begin, I thought as I walked down the hall to the door. The sound of my designer shoes on the travertine floors reminded me of the sound of cleats on concrete. It made me smile, but the memory was bittersweet, and I pushed it aside. Behind bittersweet was pure malice, an emotion I couldn’t allow myself. Not today.
Grabbing the keys to my Viper, I headed out the door.
Watch out Arizona, Zolt Hamil was back.
review2
I was given this book by author D.L. Raver and by Paranormal Romance and Authors That Rock for an honest review.
Zolten Hamil  has been living with a dream of a beautiful girl he had only seen once, 6 years ago when he got hurt playing football. He wasn’t sure she was real or in his imagination. Irelyn Wilkes had seen him go down from a hit on the field that day 6 years ago and she never got him out of her dreams or out of her heart.
I was not sure what kind of a book this was until I started reading it and then I was so caught up in it that I would not put it down. The characters show their emotions and you just can’t help but feel for Irelyn and Zolt through out the whole story.
6 years ago fate brought them together for a few minutes and now Zolten finds the woman who has haunted his mind. In a bad relationship Irelyn now comes face to face with the man she has had in her mind for the past 6 years. Neither 1 of them wants to let the other go but what lies ahead of them makes it hard to stay together.
This book has lies, murder, romance, a little BDSM all rolled up in the story and because of the sexual content in this book it is for mature erotic romance readers. I give this book a 5 Fang out of 5 Fangs rating.

Synopsis
A beached mermaid; a sexy mercenary with too many secrets; and a mission impossible.

When the clerk at a burger joint is assaulted for trying sell a filet-o-fish to a mysterious blonde, it’s just the beginning of the clash between Land and Sea that’s either going to end in Armageddon or salvation.

The world is going mad – on the land and under the sea – and the mermaid princess Lecanora is an envoy on a special mission.

There are just a few problems.

For a start, she didn’t reckon on how hard it would be to leave her home behind and adjust to life on The Land, with its confusing obsession with wearing clothes and its penchant for pointless but highly desirable calories.

Nor did she realise the most evil magician the world has ever seen wanted to take her for his very own.

And who would have thought a gun-toting mercenary could rock the world of a Pacifist Princess from a place where passion is a four letter word?

As the forces of darkness gather, Lecanora must come to terms with exactly what she would do to save the home she has always known, and the Land she has come to love.

For fans of MaryJanice Davidson and Charlaine Harris, and everyone who ever dreamed of being a princess, a mermaid, or a kickass heroine.

Book 2 of the Aegira Chronicles (Book 1 is Fish Out of Water)

excerpt

Lecanora peered through the little glass window, standing slightly to the side and trying not to be seen. Larry was holding the man’s palm, looking at his watch. Rania was pacing up and down beside the bed. Larry kept shaking his head, repeating the gesture with the palm and the watch. As he turned to reach for his stethoscope out of his bag, Lecanora could see he was smiling, the biggest smile she’d seen on the man since she had met him.

As he turned to his bag, she finally got a full view of the man lying on the bed.

As she did, the floor seemed to slide giddily under her. She wondered if her blood sugar was low again, and unwrapped another of the food products Rania had pressed into her hand before she had gone into the hospital room. A Twinkie, Rania had called it. A lovely name, Lecanora decided. She stuffed the tiny cake into her mouth, zeroing in again for a look at the man on the bed. This time the giddy slide was less, but still there.

It was him, she decided. He was having this effect on her.

Strange.

She stood back carefully and took a mental inventory. He was shockingly dark. His face was hard and angular, and even from this distance and with his face rested in sleep she could see two scars on it, and a strange shape to his long nose that indicated a break in his youth. One scar was pale and white, the other fresher and darker. But as well as being hard and bleak, the face was also lush. Full lips were half open as he muttered something in his sleep, rolling slightly and showing off a long throat and a dark beard.

As though he sensed her watching, he turned in her direction in his sleep. Lecanora quickly ducked behind a tall trolley to her right, but she could still see him. Her superb eyesight allowed her a complete view of his face, which was a study of vulnerability in sleep. He was so open to her it momentarily robbed her of the capacity to Land-breathe, and she coughed quickly and commanded her brain to engage. A deep cleft in his chin lent him a childish air.

As she watched, a young woman approached her. She was quite beautiful by Land standards, and she seemed to favour bold colours. A dark red stained her nails, not unlike the blood-tattoos favoured by the rebel Leigons, and an even bolder crimson outlined her lips around the edges, although the inside part was lighter, like maybe the colour had worn off. Brilliant blue sparkly dust outlined her eyes. Lecanora was quite transfixed by the whole effect.

‘Can I help you?’ the young woman asked, and Lecanora shuddered. Her voice was high and screechy. Lecanora closed her eyes briefly to try to stop her face from reacting with surprise, and her fingers from snaking into her ears.

Lecanora took in the woman’s attire — all white, with a small badge and an official-looking pin adorning her breast. She appeared to be an employee of the hospital. ‘I am with the people in that room,’ she said.

The woman pressed her lips together, like that made sense. Then she sighed. ‘Well,’ she said. ‘Don’t you think you better go in then, honey?’

‘No,’ Lecanora said. ‘But thank you.’

The woman pressed her lips together again, and Lecanora could almost smell her determination. ‘Well, you can’t hang around out here I’m afraid.’

‘So I must enter that room?’

‘Please.’ The woman nodded. She inclined her head towards the man lying on the bed. ‘He’s made a remarkable recovery in the last few hours. He’ll be coming around soon.’

The woman looked at Lecanora carefully, and began to speak more slowly, like she thought maybe Lecanora had difficulties with comprehension. ‘Here,’ she said. ‘Let me help you in.’ She hooked her arm through Lecanora’s and guided her to the door.

Lecanora stood still in the doorway as the official left. Rania looked up from the discussion she had been having with Larry.

‘Babe,’ she said. ‘There you are. Come in. Doug’s almost all better. That shit of Rick’s is out of this freakin’ world. We’re just waiting for him to wake up. I want to make sure I’m here when he does. He’s going to be so freaked out.’

Lecanora could not find the right words to answer her sister coherently. She was still reeling from the impact the sleeping Land man had on her. She backed up against the bed, muttering something about needing to get a drink, but before she could escape, a strong hand grabbed her wrist and spun her towards the bed. She found herself face to face with eyes of the deepest brown, a colour she could not have imagined even existed at the bottom of the ocean. But it was more than their colour. They were so expressive. She wondered if it was because they had just woken from a coma. They were eyes in which she felt she could read all the pain and courage and fears of a life.

She cleared her throat to try to make the right sounds, in the correct order.

But nothing came.

Because the man of the deep brown eyes and scars, the Land man of the dimpled chin and vulnerable eyes, was looking right at her.

Like he was as surprised as she was by what he saw.

His warm, strong fingers rubbed gently at the underside of her wrist, shooting hot shivers into the coldest parts of her.

He looked well. Very well. Not the broken thing Rania and Larry had described.

‘Doug,’ Rania growled, poking him in the ribs. ‘Say hi, for fuck’s sake, you’ll scare her.’

‘Hi,’ the long brown man said, raising a hand feebly. ‘We’ve met,’ he said. ‘In my dreams.’ He looked over at Rania. ‘Sheriff — you’ve got some explaining to do.’

The man pulled himself up from the bed and pulled out a tube that had been attached to his arm. He yanked Lecanora towards him by her wrist. As strong as he was, Lecanora knew she was stronger than him. She could feel it. She could have resisted easily, without even breaking a sweat. Instead, she let herself be dragged in towards him like a shark to the slaughter. Closer, closer, until her chest was resting almost parallel to his.

She sat there, feeling his warm breath on her face and her cold blood turn red-hot.

‘Very pleased to meet you, Dream Girl,’ he said. ‘Very pleased indeed.’

One Night of Sin by Veronica Velvet

sin

 March 11, 2014
Lissette Banning spent all of her time with books. As the head librarian, she was there from open to close and almost always alone. One snowy night will turn into a blizzard of sin and make all her fantasies come true. She will soon learn, some fantasies are better in real life than any of her books.

Sullivan Bixby just came in to call a tow truck. His vehicle stuck in a snow bank, he soon realizes he’d rather be snowed in the library than anywhere else. Can he help Ms. Banning lose her inhibitions? Can he show her the true meaning of pleasure?

review2
My review for One Night of Sin (Club Liason Series) by Veronica Velvet 5 Fangs “I loved this short story. It was sexy and hot. Lissette is a quiet librarian who meets Sullivan, a sexy millionaire in a naughty and very embarrassing situation. That chance meeting turns into a night of pleasure for them both as Lissette is introduced to BDSM. If you are not really into BDSM I would still recommend this short story because it is well written, and like I say, it is an “introduction.” I think the characters and the plot are well developed. I think this is going to be an awesome series, and I imagine it will only continue to cant get hotter and hotter. I can’t wait for the next one!”

excerpt

I opened my eyes again, and we locked in a hypnotic gaze. I didn’t look away like I normally would when a hot guy caught me staring. I held the gaze and just keep dancing. I felt seductive for the first time in my life. The hottest guy I had ever seen was watching me with a hunger in his eyes. And I was dancing for him.

The song changed, breaking my concentration from Jared and back to the DJ. A feeling of euphoria filled my entire body as I looked out at the scene before me, taking it all in. I love it here. I want to dance all night. Suddenly I felt a hand on my hip. It startled me, but I didn’t mind. A body moved up against me and started to move in harmony with mine. I shot a look over my shoulder and caught a glimpse of Jared. My face now only inches from his. I turned my body around so we were face to face. Still moving with the beat of the music, our bodies melded. Now I was hot. Why is it so hot in here? Up close I could see he had a small silver piercing just below his bottom lip and it protruded forward as he bit his lower lip and stared deep into my eyes.

I mirrored his gesture and bit my lower lip, looked up at him with my large doe eyes as he started to grind closer to me. With his hand on the small of my back he pulled me into him, pressing his body hard into mine. The smell of his cologne was intoxicating. I had an overwhelming urge to kiss him, our lips now only an inch apart, at best. I wondered if he felt the same. Is he going to kiss me? God, how I want him to kiss me! His took his finger and gently ran it from the base of my neck down my décolleté and stopped right above my cleavage. My skin moistened from sweat, my panties moistened in arousal. Why was he teasing me? I wanted him so badly I considered pulling him off to the bathroom. Have some class, Shay. My conscience reared its ugly head for the first time all night. Glad to know I still had it, but unwilling to listen, I closed my eyes and leaned my head back, exposing my vulnerable neck. I saw flashes of light pulsating through my closed eyelids, and I felt Jared’s hand move from the small of my back down to my ass as he gripped it in his palm. Finally, soft lips met my neck. He gently kissed his way up until our mouths were in perfect alignment. He paused, and I could feel his breath on my face. We were so close. Why won’t he kiss me? Unable to take it any longer, I latched my fingers around his neck and pulled his mouth into mine.

His lips soft on mine, kissed me slowly at first, and then the whole world around us seemed to fade away, and I was lost in his embrace. I teased him a bit, circling his piercing with the tip of my tongue, and then put it in my mouth and tugged gently with my teeth. I had never been so forward with a guy before, but I couldn’t stop myself. My attraction for him was animalistic and the way he looked at me, with a craving in his eyes, told me he felt the same. His hands made their way up my back, my hair tangled in his fingers as he pulled me deeper into him—just forcefully enough to be sexy, yet still rough enough to drive me crazy. His touch did something to my body I had never experienced before, but I liked it, and I wanted more.

I moaned through muffled lips as he started to kiss me hard and deep. It was like our mouths were made for each other. We were full-on making out in the middle of the VIP section, and I just didn’t give a shit who was watching. My eyes still closed, we sucked and licked on each other’s lips in time to the music. I could feel his erection pushed up against my pelvic bone as he grinded himself into me. I was ready to give myself to him when my conscience came back. Don’t give it all at once, Shay. That bitch had the worst timing. But I knew better than to give it all at once. At least I hadn’t lost all of my senses—just my hormones.

I pulled away slowly, lingering on his bottom lip for a moment before letting it go as I looked deep into his eyes. They had a yearning in them now, a look of lust. I knew I had turned him on, I could feel the confirmation still pushed up against me. He leaned in for one last kiss as the song changed, and suddenly it was like he had been awakened from a trance. For me it was more like waking up from a wet dream—still hot and bothered, yet bummed it was over. He flashed me his sexiest grin that let me know he enjoyed our encounter, then turned and walked over to Pope and grabbed a beer from the ice. Our dance was over.

I wondered if he danced with all the girls like that.

I wondered if we’d ever dance again.

I knew one thing for certain … I didn’t want the night to end.

Bender by Stacy Borel

add-to-goodreads-button31Synopsis

All Keegan wanted was a roommate who was quiet, minded their own business, and paid for part of the rent. Instead, she got Camden Brooks.

Camden, with his sinful body, sharp tongue, and the inability to stay out of Keegan’s personal business, couldn’t seem to curb his interest in the new girl who wouldn’t put up with his domineering ways.

Feelings were running rampant, sexual tension was thick, and both were struggling to let go of control.

To some people, getting a roommate simply meant living with another person. But to both Camden and Keegan it was a curveball that neither was prepared to swing at.

Excerpt

Standing up I began pacing. This was going too far. I could handle nice gestures, but coming into my room, and giving me things that I didn’t ask for was taking it too far. I wanted it out. I wanted it all out.

                Now!

Marching downstairs, I was a girl on a mission. When I reached the bottom step, Camden turned around to look at me. Sure enough, there was that smug, satisfied little grin. I bet he was expecting a thank you for his diluted sense of generosity. Oh boy, was he in for a treat. I smiled back at him, but I had a feeling it didn’t look quite right. I was certain I had a crazed look in my eyes, and at this point, I didn’t care. My crazy was about to be hanging out all over the place. Now where in the hell was what it? My eyes drifted to the corner of the dining room. Up against the wall was the Louisville Slugger, just what I was looking for. I casually walked over to it and picked it up. I knew Camden’s eyes were tracking me. The grin on his mouth had slipped and now he just looked confused. I held the bat in my hand, testing its weight and deciphering my next move.

“What are you doing?” Cam asked.

I looked up at him, sending daggers at him through my eyes. “Practicing my swing.”

His confusion deepened. When I saw his eyebrows raise, I knew realization hit him. “Now Keegan, don’t go doing something you’re going to regret.”

The laugh that came from my mouth was pure evil. It sounded bizarre, even to me. “Oh Camden, I’m not going to regret this. I’m going to enjoy it very much.” With that I turned on my heels raced up the stairs. But not before heard him say “shit” and hurdle the couch coming after me.

I made it up to my room before he did. I took a brief moment to breathe in through my nose and back out through my mouth. I was centering myself for my grand swing. Standing before the beautiful bed he had no business buying me, I brought the bat up high and was about to bring it down as hard as I could, when it stopped mid air. Twisting my head around, I locked eyes with wild deep brown ones.

“Don’t you dare.” He growled, inches from my face.

review2

3.5 fangs

I was given this book by Paranormal Romance and Authors That Rock for a fair review.

Kasey lives next door to Joseph. they spend the night together before he leaves for Boot Camp. after letters get lost, and lies are told, they lose touch, and move on. Til one day, Joseph is visiting friends, and comes across Kasey, and a shock to his very soul! Can time heal whats happened??

I will be honest and say, the blur didn’t do much for me, so I went into this not expecting much, but was pleasantly surprised! A genuine mix up, and crossed wires, as well as lies mean Joseph (and I LOVE that he was not shortened to Joe!) and Kasey lose touch, but for each of them, there really has never been anyone else. Even if Joseph is engaged to another. But after crossing paths again, there can be only one conclusion, truly! these two were meant to be together, they really are!

the story moves at a fair pace, is well told, (but in first person, present tense, so not my thing) the characters are lovable, and believable, even if Kasey’s parents are the meanest on the planet! the love scenes are sweet and tender, not explicit, and almost til the end I was going to rate this as young adult 15+, because it really is a lovely tale. But then, right near the end, and I only noticed it twice, there was swearing, I don’t mind swearing, not at all, I noticed it, because it seemed out of place in this book, to me, so I upgraded it to young adult 16+.

a genuinely lovely tale, a true romance about second chances.

The mysterious recluse…

Owen Campbell holds himself apart from other people. Badly scarred from emotional wounds that have never healed, he doesn’t expect to find true love or happiness. He remains isolated in a prison of his own making, determined to not let anyone close enough to hurt him again. But his willpower is shaken to the core when Sarah Browning enters his world.

The girl next door…

Sarah Jane Browning is three years into her college degree when a call from home changes everything. Back at the family homestead in the heart of Appalachia, she’s forced to reevaluate her hopes and dreams for the future.

Distraction from her heartache comes in the form of her parents’ neighbor. Whispers about “odd Owen Campbell” abound in their small community, and Sarah’s curiosity is aroused. When she breaks the rules and trespasses onto his land, what she finds is beyond her wildest imaginings.
As Sarah struggles to overcome tragedy and loss, her burgeoning relationship with Owen is sorely tested. Will love conquer all, or will the secrets from Owen’s past tear them apart forever?
EXCERPT

Checking back over her shoulder after a few steps, Sarah frowned when the deer continued to mimic her path. Dismissing the incident as the curiosity of a wild young deer that hadn’t yet learned humans were the enemy, she let her mind drift. Before long, she heard the sound of water trickling rapidly over rocks, and as she rounded a curve, she saw a small stream curving through the mountainside. The branch of water cut into a shallow hollow, one side protected by a higher ledge of earth that was full of mountain laurel.
Sarah stopped to take in the sight and drew in a cleansing breath. As she looked around, she realized the deer had followed her and stopped a short distance away. The bench of land it stood on converged with the deer path alongside the stream.
If Sarah hadn’t known better, she would have sworn the deer wore a look of consternation. The animal bent its head to nibble at some greenery on the ground, but kept its eyes on her. It almost seemed to glance between her and the water, as though weighing the danger of coming closer for a drink.
“Maybe if I turn away, you’ll feel bolder.” The deer path crossed the branch at a narrow point, and she decided to go a bit further. The water cascaded down a small waterfall above the narrow point, pooling in a shallow area that would be the perfect spot for a thirsty deer to get a cooling drink. Hopping across the water, Sarah followed the trail. To her surprise, the path didn’t continue to the flat bench on the other side of the small ridge, but climbed up and around the rocky outcropping. Curious, she climbed the incline. The sight took her breath away, and for a moment, she didn’t believe what was in front of her was real.
The rocky outcropping the water cascaded down was a sort of natural dam. On its other side, a large pool of water had collected. Fifteen feet across and nearly that wide again going in the opposite direction, the pool was surrounded by sloping granite on all sides except the front, where the water dropped over the edge. The water was blue-green, going from light aqua to deeper cobalt, and the banks of rock and earth protected it on all sides.
On the opposite side, a craggy granite cliff rose about ten feet out of the water, overhanging slightly to form a shallow cave. The mountain seemed to curve around the pool and, mesmerized, Sarah continued around, crossing the branch once more at a point above the pool. From there, she was able to climb on top of the granite boulder that created the cliff. Easing to the edge, she carefully sat down, her legs dangling over the side.
When the curious deer appeared at the edge of the pool below, Sarah laughed. The deer gave a small jerk at the sound, eyeing her warily.
“I’m sorry.” She felt utterly insane, carrying on a conversation with a deer, but it had followed her like a curious puppy. Sarah realized that keeping quiet would feel even more absurd. “It’s so beautiful here. I had no idea any place like this existed.” She looked around, noticing that the trees didn’t arch out over the pool the way she thought they would have.
“I’ll bet it’s really hot here in the summer, and that water feels so good and cool. Or does the pool dry up, I wonder?”
For a while, she just sat, braced back on her hands, her face lifted to the sky. The peace imbued in the place washed over her. When she felt ready, she let herself remember Kathy’s words to Paul, and their laughter. The memory made Sarah sad and still made her cringe with embarrassment, but she realized that she didn’t feel quite as angry about it as she had.
“Thank you, God, for letting me hear that today. At least I don’t have to face Paul until Monday,” she said to the sky. “And… and maybe, if that’s what he likes, then maybe he’s not as special as I thought he was. Let him have his buxom girls. At least I don’t look like a milk cow, unlike someone I could name.”
A snort came from below, and Sarah jumped. She’d forgotten the deer. Looking down, she saw that it had moved to the edge of the exposed granite and settled down on a soft patch of leaves.
“What are you snorting at?”
When the deer shook its head, Sarah laughed. Even though she knew it was probably batting away flies with its ears, the deer acted almost human.
She glanced down at her watch and was shocked when she saw the time. She was going to have to run in order to make it home in time for supper. With a muted curse that she’d heard her father say when he hit his thumb with the hammer, she scrambled to her feet and looked around. Another bench ran down from the side of the boulder opposite where she’d come up and fell naturally into the one the deer had been on when she’d first seen it.
“That saves me a little time.” With one last look at the deer, which had gotten to its feet when Sarah did, she headed down the bench. “I’ll come back someday,” she promised over her shoulder. “Try to not get shot or anything.”
For a day that had gone so badly, she thought as she ran, things had turned out to be okay.
* * *
For a long time after the girl had gone, Owen stood on the edge of the pool, looking after her. With his enhanced hearing, he could follow her progress down the trail and back onto Browning land.
He didn’t know what to think. He’d never encountered another human in all the time he’d been exploring the woods. His parents had seen to that over the years; no one dared come onto Campbell property without his father’s permission. Now that the property belonged to Owen, he guessed he was the one who’d have to do something about trespassers.
He bent his neck, taking another sip from the water. As the girl had guessed, it was cool and delightful.
Owen sighed, a sound that came out in deer form much as it did when he was human. The pool was one of his favorite places to roam, one of his safe places. If the girl came back as she promised, he didn’t know what it would mean for him. He couldn’t risk being caught, and he wasn’t willing to give up his solitude. If the girl threatened that… he hated the thought of having to go to her parents, but if it came to that, he’d do it.
