EXCERPT (Exclusive excerpt, not posted before)

From story two, Handy Hubby Hire 18+ rated excerpt

Sara got through the front door before she lost her composure. Smiles wreathed her face. She grasped the business card and looked at the words embossed there. She read it aloud focusing on the name. Griffen Fox, and what a fox he is. He is…gorgeous. What will happen tomorrow? I know what I’d like to happen. Will that be it, he’ll rock up, do the jobs and disappear as if we didn’t have sex, as if we didn’t gaze at each other and want more, want to fuck each other’s brains out all night? She sighed. She sat at her desk and relived his kisses. Her nipples hardened. She pictured his huge, hard cock. Her pussy clenched and drenched her fresh panties. She licked her lips. I wish I was with him now. I want his lips on mine, his hands on my ass. This is probably not good for me. I’ll crave sex again now. Damn it.
Sara remembered the months after Jem left. She missed him, their conversations, their walks, but she missed sex more. She missed the hard shape of a man’s body, the taste of his cum. She missed it badly and she’d craved it until she despaired. There’d been no one else. She didn’t meet men in everyday life.
She went to make more coffee. I’m addicted to this stuff.
That night Sara tossed and turned. She considered masturbating because she needed release, but she knew she longed for a man’s fingers, a man’s mouth on her breasts, preferably Griffen’s. Her own fingers wouldn’t do, not after sex with Griffen. Sometime just before dawn she fell asleep.
She sat bolt upright as the sun streamed in through her bedroom window. The angle of the rays told her it was quite late. She leapt out of bed and checked the time on her cell phone.
Half an hour to shower before Griffen Fox arrived. Her heart started beating faster as she daydreamed about his kiss and his mouth on her skin. She raced to shower and dress.
Her hands shook as she made a cup of coffee. She went to look out of her front windows and watch for his arrival. “Calm the fuck down,” she told herself aloud, but when his truck pulled into her driveway her heart thumped.

Blood Beyond Darkness by Stacy Marie Brown

It’s HERE! The day has
finally arrived!

The final book in the Darkness Series has arrived!!

After months of searching, Ember and her friends have finally located the Sword of Light, the only weapon capable of destroying Queen Aneira and ending her rule. This is Ember’s destiny. Or so she thought. Now a pact to save the man she loves changes everything.

In this final installment in the Darkness Series, when the truth comes to light, Ember will learn some things are better left in the dark as her world is ripped even further apart. It is no longer a rabbit hole, but a never-ending black void full of endless lies, betrayals, and secrets.

The fight for Earth has begun, and Ember will have to make the ultimate sacrifice to save millions of innocent lives and those she loves.

But this price may be too high—even for her.

Stacey Marie Brown by day is an Interior/Set Designer, by night a writer of Paranormal Fantasy, Adventure, and Literary Fiction. She grew up in Northern California, where she ran around on her family’s farm, raising animals, riding horses, playing flashlight tag, and turning hay bales into cool forts. Even before she could write, she was creating stories and making up intricate fantasies. Writing came as easy as breathing. She later turned that passion into acting, living and traveling abroad, and designing. Though she had never stopped writing, moving back to San Francisco seemed to have brought it back to the forefront and this time it would not be ignored.

When she’s not writing she’s out hiking, spending time with friends, traveling, listening to music, or designing.

**Warning: The Darkness Series is not YA, but a NA Series**

Darkness of Light (Darkness #1)

Ember Brycin has been called them all. She’s always known she’s different. No one has ever called her normal, even under the best circumstances. Bizarre and inexplicable things continually happen to her, and having two different colored eyes, strange hair, and an unusual tattoo only contributes to the gossip about her.

When the latest school explosion lands her in a facility for troubled teens, she meets Eli Dragen, who’s hot as hell and darkly mysterious. Their connection is full of passion, danger, and secrets. Secrets that will not only change her life, but what and who she is—leading her down a path she never imagined possible.

Between Light and Dark, Ember finds a world where truth and knowledge are power and no one can be trusted. But her survival depends on finding out the truth about herself. In her pursuit, she is forced between love and destiny and good and evil, even when the differences between them aren’t always clear. At worst, she will incite a war that could destroy both worlds. At best, she will not only lose her heart but her life and everyone she loves. Once the truth is out, however, there will be no going back. And she’ll definitely wish she could.

Fire in the Darkness (Darkness #2)

It’s been four weeks since Ember Brycin witnessed what her powers are capable of. The Electrical Current Storm has turned Seattle, Washington into a natural disaster zone. The death toll is in the thousands with countless others homeless and hungry.
And Ember is the one who caused it. Something she will have to live with every day.

Those people who were unable to escape either turned quickly into gangs or live in shelters. Ember, on the other hand, can’t do either. With a price on her head and a Dark Dweller on her ass, she is constantly on the move. Both Light and Dark are hunting her for their own purpose to use her as a weapon or a pawn in the war between the Unseelie King of the Dark and the Seelie Queen of the Light.

Em needs help but doesn’t know who to trust: Lars, the mystery man Torin told her to find? Torin, the Seelie Queen’s personal knight, who has sworn to keep Em safe? Or Eli, who wants to turn her over to the Unseelie King, but whom she has an undeniable, intense connection with?

No matter what she chooses she will probably lose—her life or everything and everyone she loves.

Beast In The Darkness (An Elighan Dragen Novelette)

(Darkness #2.5)

We know the story from Ember’s POV, but what happens to Eli after Ember disappears? Crawl inside Eli’s mind and experience what he goes through. Be warned his mind in not a fuzzy warm place to be….

Dwellers of Darkness (Darkness #3)

Some days feel like years, but in Ember Brycin’s case just the opposite is true. Em would be 22 now—if she were human. She’s not. She is a Dae—part Demon and part Fay—with a little Dark Dweller thrown in to make her more of a freak.
Life has become further complicated for Ember since returning from the Otherworld. Besides being continuously hunted by the Seelie Queen, Ember is at the top of the Unseelie King’s list, after breaking her oath with him. No one breaks a vow with the Unseelie King without extreme consequences.

Adding to Ember’s problems is a certain Dark Dweller whose mood has become violent and cruel. As much as she’d like to deny it, there is an undeniable connection between them. Eli is sexy, gorgeous, and frustrating as hell. She also knows he is holding something back, something that could change their relationship forever.

But her problems go way past him. As the tension for war mounts between the Seelie and Unseelie (Light and Dark), the tension at the Dark Dweller’s compound escalates even more as they prepare to obtain the Sword of Light—the only weapon able to kill the Queen.

But is Ember the answer to the location of the sword? Is she the one to fulfill the prophecy? As usual nothing is ever what it seems.

Book Description:

Detective Rissa Marten sacrificed her only chance for a normal life to put a drug lord behind bars. Now, her life in the shadows has to be brought to life to save the man she has secretly loved for years. With a price on her head can she risk letting him know?

Detective Jerah Qassem has built his career as an undercover agent in the dangerous world of drug cartels. But when a ghost from his past is resurrected can he overcome his bitterness in time to save her life?

excerpt

Jerah Qassem had never been more grateful for his years of undercover training than at this moment. Fingers tight around the tumbler to stop the tremors, he watched the apparition glide up to the bar, and wondered if someone had laced his drink with a hallucinogen. Mary was dead. He had nightmares or wet dreams about her most nights for the last eight years.

It wasn’t only the woman’s face that had his insides swirling like a hurricane. It was the way she moved. Long, smooth strides, shoulders straight and eyes darting around like a caged cat. Mary had always been casting looks over her shoulder as if she expected someone to jump out and chase her. But those legs were just as toned and shapely as Mary’s had been. She had been athletic and grabbed every chance she could to romp around the beach. Even the hair was the exact same color of ripened wheat and bounced just below her shoulders. Just like Mary had worn it.

Chills erupted all over his body and cold fingers caressed the nape of his neck. Unable to blink, Jerah stared at the ghost of Mary. The girl he had sent to her death in a fit of anger. The girl he had fallen in love with, yet had been too proud and ambitious to acknowledge until she was gone. Forever.

Jerah closed his eyes against the jarring memory of two firemen holding him back from the charred remains of the building he had sent Mary into as three body bags were carried out. A shudder rattled down his spine. He had relived that day too often. When he glanced back at the bar, the woman had taken a seat and smiled at the bartender. Jerah knew that smile. The same smile that once had almost melted his resolve to not get involved. He had had a career to build. Mary had stirred up thoughts of forever and love, things he hadn’t been ready for. The temptation had been great. But somehow, he persevered and tossed away the best thing that had ever happened to him.

Air exploded from his chest and Jerah shook his head. He did not believe in ghosts. Prickles sprang up his legs as if his blood had decided to flow again. He tugged his leaden body from the chair and stalked to the bar. “Give me a shot of Wild Turkey.” Needing the fortification, he gulped down the amber liquid. Fire burned down his throat. Nope, he wasn’t dreaming. Hands braced on the edge of the bar, he turned to the woman at his side.

Jerah?”

A voice from the grave, soft and melodic, brushed across his ears. That face, resurrected from the dead, shimmered under the neon lights, a few years older, but still able to mesmerize him. Fear, anger, and profound sadness glittered in those honey-hued eyes as the color leeched from her face.

Anger and shock swelled like a wave and crashed over Jerah. That’s all she had to say? After leaving him to believe she had been killed?

Blood roared in his ears and he clamped a shaking hand around her arm. “Come with me.” A tiny voice told him this was a bad idea. That too many curious eyes watched this little exchange. But he couldn’t help it. Mary was alive and he damn sure wanted to know how. Carl and the risk of a blown cover be damned. Besides, this wasn’t the usual meeting place, and Carl wasn’t here yet.

Let go of me, Jerah.” The sharp whisper of dismissal slapped him in the face.

He leaned in close and tightened his grip. “You are coming with me and I don’t give a shit if you cause a scene or not.” The bartender sat another drink on the counter and Jerah gulped it down in one swallow, ignoring the open interest of the bartender. The burn of alcohol on his throat was not enough to ease the utter chaos of his insides. “Come on.”

Mary catapulted out of her stool at his tug and stumbled into him. When she landed against his chest, sizzles and crackles exploded over his flesh like a bolt of lightning. Conscious control flew away as Jerah’s free hand snaked to the nape of her neck and he feathered his fingers through her soft tresses. Something he had dreamed of many nights over the years.

Excerpt 2

Rissa peeled her eyes open and tossed the pillow off her head. Sun filtered in the room through the cracks of the curtain. A few blinks later, she let out a slow breath. Jerah slept by her side. Propped on her elbows she took a leisurely study of him. Hair mussed and shirtless, his dark toned skin made her mouth water. Two days’ worth of whiskers darkened his firm jaw that hung slightly open. The urge to run her fingers through that curly chest hair pulled at her heart. His abs were ripped and yummy. She grinned and reached out.

A cold fist of reality punched her in the gut and Rissa yanked her hand back. She could never jeopardize Jerah’s life like that, no matter how strong the temptation. Even a date was off limits. She jerked up and rubbed the base of her neck. The last two times she dated, both men ended up dead. Nothing but a deep rooted gut feeling suggested foul play, but she would never take that chance again. Besides, a life on the run didn’t make relationships an option. If Rissa were killed that was one thing, but anyone she ever got close to ended up six feet under. Even though Chief Wassom took her in, she had never gone to any family functions and rarely saw him outside of work.

Rissa tugged on her shoes and cast one last look at Jerah’s bare chest. Would he still be alive if he had taken her up on her offer of sex eight years ago? Somehow, even from prison, her mother managed to find and kill those she cared about. That was a worse punishment than being tortured to death.

A quick survey of the sparsely furnished room reminded her of her place. No family photos, no personal items, and probably frozen dinners in the freezer. She hated to think Jerah lived like this.

Still tired, Rissa padded to the kitchen and peeked inside the refrigerator and frowned. Didn’t Jerah ever have a meal at home? Hungry, she fetched her borrowed jacket and grinned when she spied some cash on the dresser. Jerah hadn’t moved and she flicked another longing glance over him. Look but don’t touch. She did have one thing in common with her mother. They both were in prison. Her mother’s was concrete and bars, hers was forced isolation.

Outside, she glanced up and down the street in search of food. Across the street a few tables sat along the sidewalk and she headed in that direction, grateful Jerah had a hefty stash of cash. She passed a phone store and slipped inside. It was past time to get a cell phone and check in with Montoya.

Phone in hand, Rissa stepped outside and punched in a quick text. Stomach rumbling, she hurried to the burger joint.

Her phone buzzed. “Hello.”

I think Qassem may be the perp.” Montoya’s sharp tone startled her.

Ice trailed down her spine. “Why?”

Meet me in one hour in front of the USS Midway Museum.”

Rissa frowned when Montoya hung up on her without any more explanation. Something had happened while she was gone. With a bag of burgers, fries, and two large cokes, she hustled back to Jerah’s apartment. Jerah couldn’t be a murderer. He just couldn’t. A lump formed in her throat. She would have never believed her mother could kill either. But she had, right in front of her.

3.5 / 4 Fangs

**I received this book from the author and Paranormal Romance and Authors That Rock.**

Hidden identity, hunted by the cartel, unfulfilled love…running scared, unsure who to trust, dirty cops…this book had it all and by the end I almost wanted to choke Rissa. Definitely an engaging read. It wasn’t perfect and not exactly a unique concept, but aside from some grammatical errors, I enjoyed the story and still managed to read it within a couple of days.

Meet Rissa AKA Cindy AKA Lori AKA Mary…ok, you get the picture. Rissa has been hiding from the cartel for a good portion of her life, after helping incarcerate the then boss, Carmelita Marten. Staying one step ahead of the bounty on her head, she has changed her identity so often, she is an expert at it. Which is why when she is tasked with a special assignment at her old stomping ground in San Diego, a place she thought she would never return to, but did when the name of an old flame was linked to the murder case she is being asked to help solve, she is angry with how quickly things snowball. After a chance meeting with Jerah, who is working undercover and an unknowing suspect in Rissa’s murder case, not to mention her old flame, Rissa gets caught up in Jerah’s case and up close and personal with the cartel. Trying to determine who in the department is murdering cops while hiding in plain sight of the cartel, she struggles to fight her growing feelings for Jerah and the danger they both face if the cartel discovers who they really are.

There were a lot of twists to the story and I found myself alternating between understanding the frustration of both Jerah and Rissa, and the lack of trust each had for the other, and wanting to shake them too. In her case, after running for so long, and having everyone she ever cared for killed, I can understand why it would be so hard to trust anyone, but dang, I sure felt for Jerah. He had no clue what he was really up against and it was so hard to not want to throw my kindle when she just didn’t cut him some slack. My issue with the story is that although the story did grab me, I found it somewhat lacking when it came to explaining how the cartel managed to find those she was involved with, but not her. Nor how her cousin managed to fake her death without additional inside help within the police department. Even with good computer skills, the on scene officers and forensic teams should have been able to do a better job at determining the identity of a victim. It just felt like a little more details would have helped the authenticity of the story.

Bottom line? If you like books involving law enforcement, some mystery and suspense, and a little romance then you’ll enjoy this. There is one scene of a beating, but not overly gruesome. With a little more clean up and fleshing out, this could be a gem.

“Well, I’m a bit fucked up in the head.”

He laughs. He’s actually laughing at me! It wasn’t a joke. I don’t know whether to be pissed off or laugh with him, so I just sit here and wait for him to finish.

“I’m sorry, Paige,” he says, wiping away a tear.

“Seriously? You look anything but sorry.”

“It’s just that you’re the most normal person I’ve ever met, and yet you genuinely believe you’re fucked up.”

“I am. And you of all people should understand why. A lot has changed in the last few months, Eli.”

“No, I get that, but you’re still the same. Exactly the same. Just a little more … grown up.” His eyes graze over my body.

“You don’t even know me anymore.”

“I know enough.” He sinks back into the cushion. “By the way, I’ve always wanted to say thank you.”

“For what?”

“For saving my life.”

Excerpt 1:

“You stood me up for dinner.”

“I’m not interested.” He looks at me with no change in expression. It’s as if he hadn’t heard what I just said. “Your idea of wooing and my idea of wooing couldn’t be further apart.”

He snickers under his breath finding humor in my statement. Arrogant bastard.

“I don’t want to woo you, Reese. I want to fuck you,” he says casually.

Excerpt 2:

We both start toward one another. “Hello, Mr. David. Fancy seeing you here,” I tease.

“Miss Turner, nice to see you again.”

“Please, call me Reese.”

“I’d love to call you, but you’re unwilling.” He raises a single brow in silent question.

“I don’t recall you asking,”

“Ah, yes. We’re back to that whole question demanding thing again I see,” he says playfully.

“Ah, yes, I suppose we are. Have you learned how to ask yet?”

His crooked grin etches several small laugh lines that delicately outline the side of his perfect mouth, making him sexier.

Seemingly impossible.

“Probably not, but I’ll give it a try. Have dinner with me.” His face stretches into a proud grin.

I smile up at his pleased expression. “Mr. David, I still didn’t hear a question.” I give him my best wide-eyed innocent look.

“Okay, help me. Tell me how it’s supposed to sound.” A glimmer of amusement dances in his eyes as he toys with me.

“A question works like this. Will you have dinner with me?”

“Why yes, Reese, I would love to have dinner with you,” he answers mischievously. “I’ll pick you up at 6:30.”

I quietly chuckle at the twisting of my words. “No, I was merely showing you how it’s done. I wasn’t really asking you out.”

“Okay, we’ll stay in. I’ll be at your place at 6:30. I’ll bring the wine.”

I stand there dumbfounded as he winks, turns on his heel, and walks toward the exit.

Excerpt 3:

I exhale loudly, making the quick decision to be honest. “Because I dated him.”

“Were you serious with him?” he asks, his eyes never leaving the road.

“I thought so,” I reply just above a whisper as I recall the pain so vividly.

“What does that mean?” James asks, alternating his attention from me to the road.

“He’s the only other man I’ve ever loved,” I say weakly, thoughts running rampant in my head. Not changing direction, I feel the power of his sports car hugging the winding asphalt under it.

“Who’s the other?”

My head snaps in his direction, not understanding the question. “What?” I ask.

“You said he’s the only other man you’ve loved. Who’s the other?” He slows the car and pulls over to the side of the road. He faces me, waiting for my answer.

My heart thuds strong in my chest, beating my rib cage from inside. I haven’t told him I loved him, but not because I don’t. I look up to meet his twinkling blue eyes.

“You. You are the only man I love. I thought what I felt for him was love until I met and fell in love with you.”

Roth by Jessica Frances

Book #2 of the Invasion

New Adult Sci-Fi Romance
Date Published: August 16, 2014

Mattie:

I was taken and left for dead on a planet far from Earth. My new nightmare is called Roth.
I have only Hank for an ally here and a burning rage that builds higher with each passing day.
But we have a plan.
One that will hopefully give humans back the Earth.
One that will ensure I get revenge for what was taken from me.
I will stop at nothing to get Earth back.
I am willing to die for this.

Marduke:

I made a mistake.
I sent Mattie away from Earth and now she is in more danger than she ever was there.
The threat to her life doesn’t just come from my people, but from humans as well.
I have to find her.
She needs to know there is more at risk than just her life.
She carries a secret, one that would lead to our deaths if anyone found out.
If we want a future together, then we need to escape Roth and leave the war and everyone behind.

What happens when their plan begins to fail?
What will they do when a new threat presents itself, one more dangerous than anything they have ever faced before?
Will Mattie be able to survive the loss she is forced to endure?
Will Marduke be able to protect her from not only his people and hers, but also from herself?
Is there still a way to save Earth?
Is there even a way to save each other?
Or will humans fall?
Will Earth be lost to them forever?

 excerpt

I know you’re hurting, so is Hank, but this isn’t the answer. You kids are young; you’ve got your whole…” He winces. Hank’s words about Roth having no life for us are most likely echoing in his mind. “You’ve got too much to lose. You’re too young to throw it all away. I lost my wife ten years ago, and it was the hardest thing I’ve ever been through. Now… now, I’m going to lose my boy.” His voice hitches and my heart breaks into pieces. How much more heartbreak can I handle?

I’m sorry Mr. Fields, but—”

It’s Andy,” he interrupts.

Right. Andy, it’s not so easy. He’s hurting. I’m hurting. I can’t stand to live another second on this planet. I hate it here, and I’d rather die trying to do something useful than be here.”

You’re both being stubborn. It’s not great here, I know, but we can get through this. We just need to stick together.”

Don’t you want to get Earth back? Don’t you want to be home again?”

Home to what? We’ve already lost so many men and women; what are we going back to if we all go to war? I know you’re away from your parents and friends, and I understand that this is harder for you, but I still have my boys. I can’t stand to lose them. I promised their mother I’d take care of them. I can’t sit by and watch my boy kill himself.”

There are causalities in war. Without them, we’d have lost many wars before this,” I point out.

But you’re not going to win this. There is no chance. I’m going to lose Hank, and it’s going to tear me apart. Then it’s going to tear Brick apart, and I’ll have lost them both.”

My heart aches for him, knowing his pain won’t ever go away. Hank won’t give up this fight and nothing Andy says will change it.

Listen, I know I never met your parents, but I know you’re a good kid. I knew it from the visits you had when Hank brought you and Lisa over. I feel like I owe it to your parents to keep you safe, so you’re important to Hank as well as to me. I don’t want to lose either of you. You need to be smart, and this mission you’re determined to follow through with isn’t smart.”

I tear up at his words, imaging that, if Dad were here, he’d be giving me a similar speech. He would be begging me not to do this, yet it doesn’t change how I feel.

I need to do this.

Just think about it.” Andy’s hand rests heavily on my shoulder, no doubt seeing the lost cause that I am. Then he leaves me alone in the tent while I wipe at my eyes.

I haven’t cried much since I arrived on Roth. When I’m living in my nightmares and just after I wake, I can’t help the tears that fall. However, when I’m awake, I try to stay away from crying.

Crying feels like I am accepting what I’m feeling, and I refuse to accept this pain. Not until I’ve made Ival pay for what he’s done. Not until this is over.

Roth……. I have never been so intrigued by a book but this one took me by the very first word. The love that Mattie and Marduke feels for each other is unbelievable!  Earth is under attack and Mattie has met up with one of the enemy’s. Only he’s not a bad one they have turned on him and trying to kill him. Mattie is able to save him only to have him and her captured. She and her friend is took back to one of the planets she thinks Marduke is killed so she is planning on revenge. Only that they are not the enemy this time. When she finds Marduke they run into awful creatures. To add to the mess Marduke still has not told her that she is pregnant with his child. With the help of some friends they set fire to the forest to kill the creatures that are trying to eat them. To top it all off Ival the mean brother had found them. When that turns bad and Marduke is hurt she will do anything to save him. That includes getting Ival to help. When he tries to help the new threat comes in and takes them all. Will they be able to escape? I am so in love with this story I couldn’t put it down. It is amazingly written! I give this a 5 fang review. Reviewer for PRATR.

Born and raised in South Australia, Jessica spends her days working in a bakery, afternoons catching up on lost sleep, and nights reading and writing. After having the Taken Trilogy taking up space in her head for years, she was relieved to have a break and her mind clear. But apparently the free rent was spoken to Mattie and her friends, because now she is hearing new voices and a whole new story. The Invasion Trilogy was then born.

BOOK SYNOPSIS

Guy Rogers is extremely attracted to his new realtor, Tom Beaudreaux. As a passionate vegetarian and animal activist, he’s ecstatic that Tom is a kindred soul. He could never be with a carnivore. Unfortunately, Tommy isn’t really a vegetarian or animal activist. He never said he was either, he just didn’t eat meat when he was with Guy. And maybe he emptied his house of all meat and dairy products before inviting Guy over. In fact, Tommy’s family owns the most popular barbecue restaurant in town and if his family has their way, he’ll manage the new location.

When Guy finds out that Tommy eats meat and his family owns a restaurant that is a monument to eating meat, he’s livid and doesn’t know if he wants anything else to do with Tommy.

But then Guy’s life gets crazy –his dad’s paranoia blossoms into violent dementia, he gets arrested for picketing a doggy mill, and then he winds up in even more legal trouble. When Tommy sticks by him through all his trouble and does everything he can to help him, Guy wonders if he’s been too militant and narrow-minded. Perhaps he can learn to live with people who have opposite views.

excerpt

Gunshots rang out as they turned onto Guy’s street.

Tommy looked at him and mouthed, “Shit! You don’t think…?”

I hope not. I don’t know.” Guy pressed the gas pedal to the floor and the car shot forward, fish-tailing.

Tommy fisted the door, hanging on tight. “I hope we’re wrong.”

Guy’s intuition told him he wasn’t. His knuckles turned white they held the steering wheel so tightly. Unafraid for himself but scared for his dad, he pulled into his driveway and jumped out of the car, with Tommy close on his heels.

The woman next door ran outside screaming, tearing out her already tattered hair. She pointed at her front door. “Your father’s shooting up my house and is holding a gun at my dad’s head. He’s going to kill him. You’ve got to do something.”

Tommy yelled as he began dialing on his phone, “I’m calling the police.” As if on cue, police sirens blared in the distance and grew louder by the second.

I’m going in. I have to stop him.”

Wait for the police. Don’t put yourself in danger,” Tommy ordered forcefully.

I have to take the chance. He could kill someone before the police get here. I can’t let that happen.” He put himself in harm’s way for animals, so certainly he could risk his life for his own father and other fellow human beings. He had no choice. It would be his fault if someone got hurt.

So he ran through the open door flailing his arms, hoping he would be in time. “Dad! It’s Guy. Don’t do anything. I’m here. You’ll be okay.”

He’ll be okay? What about me? He’s got a shotgun pointed at my head threatening to blow it off,” the elderly neighbor cried.

What do you get when you mix a die hard vegetarian animal rights activist and a man who is a meat eater whos family owns a bbq shack? In this case a lot of misunderstanding and a few arrests thrown in for good measure. Guy believes no animals should be hurt no matter what and when he starts looking for a new house he meets Tom. Tom is a real estate agent who’s family owns The Shack, a very popular bbq place and he’s a meat eater. The attraction between them is instant and Tom tries to keep Guy in the dark about his family and his  meat eatung. Needless to say a lot of wires get crossed and will the guys be able to stay together? Will Guy be able to get over Tom’s family owning a bbq shack? This is a great M/M story with some steamy sex but it’s not over the top. I’ve read Ms. Ladd before and I’m always very happy with her books. I give this 5 fangs and will keep reading her books.

Distraction is the first book in Distraction Series. This is a romance about two people in college, Tristan and Elle. Tristan and Elle have been best friends since childhood and now have to find their way through college, life and love. This book is different from most in that it lets the story unfold from both Tristan’s and Elle’s view point, switching back and forth as the story progresses. This gives the story a unique feel unlike other modern romance stories. The book starts out with Tristan and then goes back and forth between Tristan and Elle.

This book was great. The characters are very approachable and draw the reader in. This book does a great job showing all the problems that normal college students can face in life, school and in finding true love. I look forward to the next book in this series. This book does have some strong language and adult situations so it is for adult readers. This is a book I would read again!

I’m giving this book 4 fangs.

Synopsis

There are three things you need to know about Ashley Winston: 1) She has six brothers and they all have beards, 2) She is a reader, and 3) She knows how to knit.

Former beauty queen, Ashley Winston’s preferred coping strategy is escapism. She escaped her Tennessee small town, loathsome father, and six brothers eight years ago. Now she escapes life daily via her Amazon kindle one-click addiction. However, when a family tragedy forces her to return home, Ashley can’t escape the notice of Drew Runous— local Game Warden, bear wrestler, philosopher, and everyone’s favorite guy. Drew’s irksome philosophizing in particular makes Ashley want to run for the skyscrapers, especially since he can’t seem to keep his exasperating opinions— or his soulful poetry, steadfast support, and delightful hands— to himself. Pretty soon the girl who wanted nothing more than the escape of the big city finds she’s lost her heart in small town Tennessee.

This is a full-length novel, can be read as a standalone, and is the fourth book in the ‘Knitting in the City’ series.

Also in the Series:

Neanderthal Seeks Human (Knitting in the City, #1)Tour: Neanderthal Marries Human by Penny Reid Friends Without Benefits (Knitting in the City, #2) Love Hacked (Knitting in the City, #3)

About Penny Reid

Author-Photo-Penny-Reid-300x300

SEX! It all started with sex, between my parents. Personally I don’t like thinking about it, but whatever works for you is a-ok with me. No judgment. The sex happened in California and much of my life also occurred in that state until I moved from the land of nuts (almonds), wine, silicon… boobs, and heavy traffic to the southeast US. Like most writers I like to write, but let’s get back to sex. Eventually I married and gave birth to 2 small people-children (boy-6, girl-4 as of this writing).

By day I’m a biomedical researcher with focus on rare diseases. By night I’m a knitter, sewer, lino block carver, fabric printer, soap maker, and general crafter. By the wee hours of the morning or when I’m intoxicated I love to listen to the voices in my head and let them tell me stories. I hope you enjoy their stories.
