A secret she must never share. A secret that two warring species are determined to control. A universe’s future at stake.
Twenty-year-old Cassiel Winters joins Earth’s new space academy in hopes of finding her brother, one of Command’s top pilots and her only family, who’s been reported MIA. But she quickly realizes she may not be cut out for life in space, where female cadets are outnumbered, competition’s fierce, and she’s already failed her hand-to-hand combat test once.
Even the station’s most respected officer, Lt. Damian King, probably can’t help Cassiel pass the second time around – so why is he so interested in her progress? If only one of her freaky déjà vu visions would offer an answer instead of mysterious messages like hide.
When Cassiel’s manipulated into a perilous mission, she encounters a warrior species bred to protect the universe from an even greater threat. And she learns that her secret visions are at the heart of it all.
Now Cassiel must fight to control her own destiny and race to save her brother – even if it means pretending to be the pawn of Prime Or’ic, the cold-as-steel Thell’eon leader. Even if it means risking her life, facing hard truths, and making the ultimate sacrifice.
Now he has no shirt. That’s better. My mouth opens in awe at his incredible physique. I just want to reach out and touch his taut broad chest, rounded shoulders, rippled stomach, and lower, where the hint of dark hair starts. I want to feel his skin and have his body, his strength and power, above me, in me.
He gasps and seems frozen on the spot. Holding his dark mysterious gaze, I lie down in the feathers with the sun beaming down on me and relish all the wonderful sensations in my body. My skin’s aching to be touched, and I hug myself, longing for closeness. Please, come lie down with me.
He seems to hesitate. He’s so stormy. I moan because the sensuality is almost overwhelming. I need some kind of release. Please. For a second, I fear he won’t give it to me and I sense of a flash of suffocation bearing down on me but it’s gone again because he’s laying beside me on his back. I reach over on my side, completely uninhibited and loving the freedom. I never, ever, feel like this and it is magnificent. My hand pauses for a second, hovering above his broad expanse of chest. When I bring my fingers down on his skin, which is extra warm and smooth, he inhales sharply. He puts his hand over mine, as though to remove it, but he doesn’t. He holds my palm gently, watching me with uncertainty, while I explore his muscular shoulders, and his chest, breathing out a moan of desire.
I sigh and nestle in under his free arm. I wish he would put it around me. He does after a moment, but why is it so stiff? Finally his arm relaxes. So warm. He’s so warm. And oddly, I fall asleep.
My dreams are childlike in their happiness. I make mud cakes and have snowball fights as the wild seasons change. I sled and run. I’m safe. I’m safe because I’m loved by those protecting me. The love’s divine and reciprocated with everything that I am. I give and take freely of the miracle, which is wide and deep and infinite and endless. I awaken gently to movement as strong arms bring me near, then up quickly, effortlessly over onto his bare chest. He’s stunned, overwhelmed, but silently asks for more. What? Love? We speak without speaking. It doesn’t work like that. He doesn’t care. He’s trying to give back what he just felt, love, but all I grasp at is his passion.
Or is that mine? Intoxicating and powerful and magnetic. I let the last vestige of my wall down and receive whatever he’s trying to share. I swallow it up, let it stream through my body and stoke my own with his. Or is he taking mine? It’s hard to tell. We feel like one. He grabs my head. My arms land on either side of his head. I’m straddling him without touching him. He wants something from me.
Show me, he says.
What, kissing? I laugh and slowly lean over, tracing his full, shapely bottom lip with my tongue, then his top one, his perfect, softly pointed peaks. Since when did I become the expert?
Since now. He’s watching me with so much desire.
Cassiel joins ESE to try and find her brother Daz. She has what she calls deja vu as far back as she can remember.
She is trying to pass her tests to to be accepted into the ESE and she is struggling with it. On top of that she is attracted to her brothers friend King.\
Sometimes he seems as if he feels more for her but at other times he just treats her as Daz’s younger sister. Really confuses her.
During her final test the ESE, it seems as if they set her up to fail. She thinks they are ready to fail her and she will have to leave.
Cassiel is called before the commander, thinking this is the end for her but instead they want her to take a mission for the SOSA.
To get aboard a Thell’eon ship to learn the location of a dangerous weapon. She accepts the mission. Cassiel learns that they believe
her to be a sift, she is the weapon that the ESE is looking for. Enjoyed the storyline, though at times it got confusing.
Some parts really needed some more explanation or maybe another POV then just Cassiel’s. Her emotions and actions are all over the place and it is hard to get a
read on her or what she is really feeling. Her attraction to King I understand but I never felt his to be real.
Almost like he is using her and she has it in her head she is in love with him and just accepts everything he says. Once the story picks up she has an attraction to Or’ic, on of the Prime of the Thell’eon which I felt was more real then her attraction to King yet she won’t admit to it. Overall it is a action packed sci-fi book that leaves the ending open for another book. Which I would really enjoy reading to see what Cassiel decides to do and how it plays out.
