How do you heal after everything has been ripped away from you?

Completely devastated and alone, Tristen cannot fathom life after losing Cami and his unborn child. He attempts to find normality in his broken world but everything seems wrong.

Aria is compelled to help Tristen and cannot escape the undeniable connection she feels for him, even though Cami was one of her closest friends. She tries to help him move forward by befriending him but quickly realizes that there is more.

Tristen and Aria are both struggling to deal with these confusing emotions. Can they find happiness even when they feel utterly broken?

review2

Tristen can’t seem to catch a break. The love of his life has been lost at sea and presumed dead, along with their unborn child. And, because Tristen and Cami have chosen to keep their love a secret — especially from Cami’s brother and Tristen’s best friend — Tristen can’t share his grief. At least so he believes. Tristen ends up confiding in Cami’s friend Aria and a relationship begins brewing. But then complications arise (don’t they always?) and Tristen’s world is shaken to its core… again.

From the way the prologue to the book was written, it made me suspect that this was a book in a series. Hunting for it on Amazon proved that theory to be correct. However, it can be read as a stand-alone. I’ve not read the other book and was able to enjoy Regretfully on its own. There were a couple of places that I got confused, due to the flashback nature of many parts of the book. But, as I continued to read, those parts became more poignant and less confusing. I felt so much emotion reading Tristen’s description of his love for Cami, and it’s a description that I’m sure many women wish their partners felt for them.

The sex scenes are H-A-W-T! They are also plentiful enough and explicit enough that I feel compelled to mark this with a “For Mature Readers Only” label. The relationship between Tristen and Cami is also well fleshed-out and left me yearning for a happily ever after I wasn’t sure was possible, but I kept hoping, anyway.

I now want to read Riley’s other novel with the same characters and see another side to the story. Well done!

“I don’t- I’ve always been the sister-type, never like this.  Do you really want this?  I don’t expect anything afterwards, but are you really attracted to me like that?”  She murmured, so unsure of herself.  Her hands landed on my bare chest and glided over my nipple piercings.  The sensitivity was there and I briefly thought about what it would feel like having her luscious lips wrapped around them.

“Listen to me.  Listen very carefully because you should already know this.  You’re gorgeous, inside and out.  We never saw you as our sister, we all respected you though.  You were the one everyone wanted but never had a chance with.  I could call up any of our surfing friends and they’d agree.  Hell, the girls knew it too.  When one of the guys started working up the nerve to ask you on a date, the others would warn about what would happen if he hurt you.  I guess we all kinda cock blocked you.”  I rub my neck, realizing how we were back then.  “I’m sorry for that.”

– The birth date on the gravestone is my actual date of birth 😉

– I try to include names from my street team and readers in my books. (Rebecca, Elixix, Tami, Cassia were all from them in Regretfully)

– Tristen got his name from a good friend of mine. She was with me in the beginning of my writing process and her boyfriend’s name was Tristen and I fell in love with the name.

– I saw Cirque Du Soleil’s Zumanity and one of the performers had his nipples pierced. I was sold and knew Tristen would be getting them. 😀

– I was able to relate to Tristen in some ways regarding Cami’s death. A boyfriend of mine was taken from this world too soon and I drew from those memories.

– Gloria’s is my favorite Latin restaurant and I had to include it in the book. The one I go to is in Dallas though.

– Aria’s flashback (you’ll know which one I’m talking about, hint- alcohol) was tough for me to write. I spent weeks on it, making sure it was accurate and written in a respectable manner. That’s one scene I don’t go back and reread very much, but it’s often on my mind.

Texas born and raised, I found my love for dirty books rather recently.  I work in real estate for my day job and I write contemporary romance with a twist of suspense and erotica.  Sinfully, Regretfully, and Deceitfully can be read in order or as standalones.  Sinfully and Regretfully take place around the same time frame and can even be read in reverse order (will give more background on Payton and Ryder’s story).  Tate’s story, Deceitfully, will finish off the series and will be out in spring of 2015.

excerpt

The phantom caress of Freddie’s touch conjured long buried memories. Ah, sweet agony. Exuberant in their youth, she and Freddie had explored all the possible sexual positions together. And now…

She fought against a tear. That was all in the past. Gone.

She closed her eyes so she might ignore the overly familiar oil landscape hung over her bed and the other tiny details that recalled the sweet and torrid memories. Her finger caught at a lace ribbon on the vanity top and pulled it across the polished wood surface. Her favorite clock ticked. Time passed. When would the hole in her heart heal? Anger at her weakness surged. She grabbed and held onto it.

“Stop being morbid, Beth. You’ve got a job to do.” Her voice echoed in the vaulted room.

A knock sounded from the outer chamber. She still had an hour before she expected her first guest. The tweeny scurried to answer it.

“She’s not quite decent, sir.”

Bethina grinned. Leave it to the young ones to state the truth. She stood and turned to welcome whoever it might be, calling out, “Let them in, Laurel. I’m as decent as I’m going to get.” It took but a few steps to enter the sitting room.

The girl curtsied and opened the door wider. Sir Arthur stood in the hall, his cap in his hand and eyes wide as he noticed the extravagance of her chamber.

Once again, that phantom emotion sprang to life. She couldn’t possibly take another lover. Never. Action would help to stifle her misgivings.

“Come. Come.” She gestured him into the room. “It’s been far too long since these rooms saw a gentleman not bent on nefarious deeds.”

The man blushed, his grey eyes darkened. “You think me harmless, Lady Godwin?”

“Hah!” She strode to the chaise, settled down and reached for the bell. The tweeny reappeared. “What would you like to drink, sir?”

Dressed in a suit of black silk from head to foot, the diplomat evoked an aura of quiet power. He had not moved since pausing inside her threshold. “I like to keep my wits when dining with my enemies and my friends.”

Bethina pressed her lips together before ordering, “Small ale for two.”

He remained still, his gaze boring into hers. “Do you possess a more modest gown, Lady Godwin?”

She chuckled and leaned forward just a touch. “Unlike you, Sir Arthur, it is not to my advantage to fade into background. A low cut bodice is far more effective in eliciting confidences than sitting near silent in a corner with a shawl up to my chin.” Even as she grinned, her melancholy vanished. Thank goodness she had somebody to match wits with.

He coughed and appeared to decide she was not about to eat him for lunch. He stretched his long legs out as he settled in the high-backed chair opposite her perch. He continued to study her. What did he want?

“Now, why the early arrival for supper?”

He turned his attention to the appointments of the chamber; the heavy furniture, damask curtains, oil paintings. Every feminine furbelow Trudy could gather dotted all possible surfaces. Lace, china, clocks, jewelry. It appeared as the room of a very wealthy lady of the nobility. No guest could possibly guess at her sordid past.

“Sir Arthur?”

“Hmm? Oh, yes. Sorry. I wondered if you required any more information before we go in for supper this evening?”

“No, I think not. Sometimes it is better to make your own judgments, true?”

He rubbed his palms together for a moment. “I would have to agree with that.”

So, he was avoiding speaking his mind. Really, now was not the time to keep secrets from her.

Laurel appeared with their drinks, served and withdrew.

Perhaps if she taunted him.

Bethina ran one finger along the rim of her glass, collecting the drop of moisture sitting there and then licked it dry. “You really wanted to see what I had chosen to wear. Admit it. What would the famed mistress of King Frederyk do upon her return to court?” She sipped at her ale and decided the castle boasted a fine master brewer.

“Yes. I am taking a huge risk here. Should we misstep, I shall be back in the desert of Uiel and you in that house on the river.”

“But you forget, Sir Arthur.” She placed her glass on the small table at her right and drew a heart on the tabletop from the glass’s condensation. “Not once in two decades was I dismissed from court. I am good at this.”

He smiled and relaxed in his seat. “As am I.”

She met his steady gaze. Good. His defenses were coming down. She took a deep breath, her breasts pressing against her tight bodice. His grey eyes widened. He swallowed. She followed his Adam’s apple down his muscled neck and grinned in appreciation at his wide shoulders. The years had been kind to him. The blood beat in her ears . Her body stirred.

And suddenly it became clear. He desired her. As much as she wanted him.

“I didn’t come here for a flirtation.” Her protest sounded gravelly.

His cheeks blazed with color. “I did not invite you for such.”

She waited, as he appeared to want to say more. In the end, they simply shared a nod each understood. The heat and lust would wait, for now. “I am here for Freddie’s niece. She needs me.”

He nodded. “Yes, she does. I think, though, that I will enjoy working alongside you.”

“Just working?”

The room filled with unspoken words. Heat. Hushed sighs beneath covers.

CURSED

October 31, 2014
This is a plus length novel–over 153,000 words long.
Commander Stavros Rii of the Kindred is a Sin Eater–thick black lines cover his back and neck causing him to feel the pain of others. It is a curse that threatens to shorten his life and makes him unable to bond with a female–not that he’s ever found one he wants to bond with. Until he meets Charlie.

Charlie Sayers is an agent with the Earth Protection Bureau– and anti Kindred agency dedicated to ridding the world of the big aliens. Charlie joined the EPB out of a sense of patriotism but she has her own reasons to hate the Kindred.

But she has bigger problems than the Kindred at the moment–the Enhanced Ones have come to Earth and they’re planning to take over the planet, enslave the inhabitants and strip them of all emotion. Charlie can’t have that so she agrees to go undercover with Stavros to find the Heart of Love–an artifact which can destroy their mutual enemy forever.

On their dangerous and difficult mission, Charlie learns that going undercover with your worst enemy can rapidly turn him into your best friend…or your lover. Can she hold on to her beliefs and stay true to herself, or will she lose her heart to Stavros? And even if she gives in to desire, will Stav be able to bond her to him?
Or are they Cursed to be apart forever?

review2

Stavros is called a sin eater among his kind.  Stavros carries the marks of a parasite on his neck and back, because of this he is able to feel everyone’s physical pain. On his own world he is concerned cursed, bad luck and everyone shuns him. He is doomed to die at a young age and never to bond with a female. He has never really considered  bonding, he knew it was never in the cards for him to find a bride. That all changes when he is taken prisoner by hard ass cop, better known as Charlie.

Charlie is part of the new Earth Protection Bureau, which works for her since she is everything anti- Kindred. She has a grudge against the Kindred and how they claim their brides so when this position open she happy to leave the PD job and hunt down the Aliens she hates so much. One night she was on her way home she spots one of kindred, and she decides to take him down. What she got was a surprise of a lifetime and maybe her hard outside shell just might crack for this alien that she has captured. Read and find out, you won’t be disappointed!

I just finished the latest books of the Kindred series, and like all the rest I loved it and I think I just found my favorite Kindred! Commander Stavros is breathtaking in every way, inside and out! Stavros captured my heart in this book with his actions and words. I’ve read a lot of books and fell head over heals for a lot of the main male leads but Stavros takes it all. What does that say about the writing of Ms.Evangeline Anderson….extraordinary!  What I love about this series, is  that I always feel drawn into it, it plays out in my head like I’m watching a movie, and everything else just melts away and it’s just me and my Kindreds! I do have to be honest, it’s my job! I was not a fan of Charlie  I felt she was just too over the top, with her attitude. As much as I tried I couldn’t even grow to like her, I felt that Stavros  deserved better in a mate.

I would rate this book 4 1/2 fangs!

Reviewer for paranormal romance and authors that rock.

This book is well written and the characters are well thought out but there are quite a few of them.  I found the beginning slow to read but once you get through it is quite an enjoyable book. I also now wish for a second one to continue the story.

Bethina Fortesque, the lady Godwin. Had loved king Frederyck for twenty years but because she was underneath him in wealth she has always been classed as a courtesan and the women loathed her and the men had always coveted her. So she was removed forcibly when the king died two years earlier.  She stayed at the abode the king had left her and she received very few visitors. Tho she did get various invites now and then, she met sir Arthur Jefferies at one such party.

Sir Arthur Jefferies called upon her the next day.  She was asked to be in charge of princess Meredith king Frederick niece and ease her into society and even tho she was only sixteen, and to be betrothed shortly thereafter.Once lady Godwin arrived at Rushton House, she met princess Meredith and found her to be lacking the essential training to be Queen.

The book follows the need to train and the need for the princess to meet her various suitors for her hand. She encounters death threats and also people to try to dethrone her even before she gets the throne. Will they manage to kill her and her suitors and will lady Godwin ever fall in love again.

Since Bryn is the only crossbreed at the Institute for Excellence, all eyes are on her, but it’s a particular black dragon, Zavien, who catches her attention.

Zavien is tired of the Council’s rules. Segregated clans, being told who to love, and close-minded leaders make freedom of choice almost impossible. The new girl with the striped hair is a breath of fresh air, and with Bryn’s help, they may be able to change the rules.

At the Institute, old grudges, new crushes, and death threats are all part of a normal day for Bryn. She’ll need to learn to control her dragon powers if she wants to make it through her first year at school. But even focusing on staying alive is difficult when you’re falling for someone you can’t have.

Review: The Beautiful Ones (The Chosen Ones) by Lori Brighton

beautiful

February 8, 2014
Some say we’re special, and that’s why we’re kept in seclusion. Beyond those walls evil lurks and innocent prey would be lost in minutes. Gone. Destroyed. Forgotten.
Others say the opposite: we’re locked away because there’s something wrong with us. If we roamed the outside world, we might taint the beautiful ones. A species so pure, that to merely be in their presence is a gift.

As for my beliefs…I’m not sure.

But I do know one thing: neither of those reasons explains why it is that they come for us only after we’ve passed the age of sixteen. Whether we want to go or not, we’re taken through those iron gates. Escorted away from the only home we’ve ever known, escorted to our destiny—whatever that destiny may be—never to be seen again.

The Beautiful Ones is a prequel intended to introduce Lori’s newest Young Adult series. At around 21,000 words, this is a short story. This Young Adult Romance contains kissing, cursing and some violence. It is best for ages 14 and up.

The Beautiful Ones: Prequel
The Chosen Ones: Book 1

Jane is stuck in her life of seclusion. She is kept within the walls of her city, wondering what is out there. The fear of the unknown is daunting. She can’t decide, does she want this security or does she want to be chosen when the Beautiful Ones come through. There are rumors of what happens when people from the secluded cities are chosen to go elsewhere, but no one really knows what is out there.

This is a great story, I love the mythology interwoven into the story. This provides a new spin on the old/new world. This is a pretty fast paced read, but leaves you with so many questions that you want to jump right into book 1 of the series. 5 fangs.

Vol. 1 and 2 Now Available!

For Laura Turner, helping others had been her way of coping and forgetting a past so painful, she had to hide it from the ones she loved or risk going insane. Helping her best friend Serena Singleton start a new life free from a dark past, made her feel she was helping herself move forward.

Laura, whose family ran in the same circle as billionaire composer Sebastian Sorensen and lived a life many would envy, had secrets of her own, and it had been years since she’d lived free of the same addiction that consumed her friend Serena.

When Laura moved to Los Angeles to work at a law firm who hired her to start even without her passing the bar, she meets the mysterious and sexy Peter Townshend, whose irresistible charm and take charge personality brings out a part of her she had hidden for years.

Hidden behind a wall of secrets and giving her his orders, she only has his seductive voice to guide her to do his bidding. He knows all her buttons. He knows all about her.

He knows she’s been a bad girl.

He knows good girls do bad things sometimes…even things that are… Barely Legal.

Genre: New Adult Contemporary Romance Suspense Series recommended for 18+

This series is a separate series from The Protege Series, but is related.

This review is from: Barely Legal Vol 1: Barely Legal Series (Kindle Edition)
Laura is an aspiring lawyer, wanting to make all her dreams come true. She is haunted by her past and the death of an ex-boyfriend. I was sucked into the book with the very first sentence. The author does a great job in the first installment of introducing the players and how they fit into the story. I was left wanton with regard to PT and how he fits into this. This was a quick read and easy to follow.
5 Fangs.

My name is Laura Turner. I was at the wrong place at the wrong time, and now I may be accused of murder.

I get a call from a mysterious man named Peter Townshend who says he knows all about me. He can save my career before it even gets started. He’s the powerful ex-MMA fighter turned lawyer who instructs me what to do.

I have no choice but to do what he tells me to do, and it is making me so very intrigued by him. Including a budding desire for him. But can I trust him? I’ve only heard his sexy voice this entire time, not actually seen him.

Now I will, and he said that it will not be under circumstances I want to remember…

New Adult/Adult Contemporary Suspense Thriller for 18+ due to mature subject matter.

Segment two picks up right where the other ended. The story flowed great. I was a little irritated regarding her being so eager to get in bed with PT after what the other guy just did, but the twist in the story totally made up for it. Again another cliff-hanger, but you have to do that with serial novels. Well worth the time and money! 5 fangs.
