When heiress and savvy business woman, HAILEY PRICE purchases the abandoned Ingersull Penitentiary with an inheritance from her murdered mother, and incarcerated father’s estate, she has no idea what evil lurks there. She is converting the former penitentiary, founded on a system of separation and torture, built on land cursed by a witch in the sixteen hundreds, into an inn. Unbeknownst to Hailey, the residual haunts inside the former prison are the least of the frightening occurrences at the new “Big House Inn”.
While preparing for her opening, Hailey discovers an Ouija board that sends messages on its own accord, experiences darting shadows and hears faint whispers. She decides to visit JOHN LAKOTA in the county jail. He has been charged for attempting to destroy federal property when he attempted to blow up Ingersull Penitentiary while it remained a functional prison. “Little John” Lakota tells Hailey the history of a witch burned at the stake by magistrate JONAT INGERSULL for whom the penitentiary is named. Lakota claimed he had no choice but to destroy the prison in an attempt to stop the evil from repeating itself for all eternity.
Not certain what to make of Lakota’s rants Hailey returns to the “The Big House Inn” to prepare for the grand opening. She has invited several guests to stay at the inn and tour the portion of the penitentiary preserved in its history. GUARD NOA MAUI LANI, the kitchen manager MAGGIE ROSS, and Hailey’s assistant BRAXTON TURNER are on hand to assist over the weekend.
Hailey begins to experience confusing dreams about her mother’s murder at the hands of her father. She asks her ex-husband to fax over the transcripts from the trial. Instead, in the hope of rekindling their failing relationship, NATE CHRISTOPHERSON hand delivers the transcripts and attributable to an electrical storm, the prison’s emergency override confines him and the guests to the penitentiary.
The witch’s curse that Lakota spoke of has begun to prey on the personal weakness of each inhabitant. Sins from the past materialize and stalk the guests. The Ouija board spells out warnings, residual haunts and horrors from the penitentiary’s past fade in and out. Before the weekend is over the witch manifests in the physical form of one of the occupants. Several guests meet their untimely deaths and Hailey races to gather the remaining visitors before they are damned to spend eternity trapped in Ingersull Penitentiary.
Hailey must destroy the penitentiary and cut the Ouija board into seven pieces and bury it in the ground. A supernatural force locks Lani in a suite, he convinces Hailey to proceed without him. She sets C-4 throughout the penitentiary, engages the manual override that has locked them in the prison, and after a test of faith, lead the few survivors to safety. Against protests, and explosions, Hailey and Nate reenter the complex to save Lani.
In a final showdown with the witch that has possessed Braxton’s body, Hailey must accept her role in her mother’s death to combat the ancient evil preying on sins of the past at The Big House Inn. Exploding the door to save Lani, Hailey, Nate and Lani escape the prison with the possessed Ouija Board. As the explosions begin to turn the complex to rubble, the trio is confident they have won the battle of good verses evil and sparks reignite between Hailey and Nate. That is until the crowd that has gathered panics, pushing and shoving to move farther away from the explosions. The Ouija Board which must be cut and buried in the ground to stop the curse, is knocked loose from Lani’s grip and disappears into the crowd. Hailey, Lani, and Nate are the only ones that can hear the eerie cackle of the witch.
I give it 4 fangs.
Haunting of Ingersull Penitentiary is a stand-alone book by Victoria Roder. I would suggest this book for adults only.
This story is the conversion of an old federal prison into a Bed and Bath Inn called The Big House Inn. Hailey is the owner of the Big House and has spent every last penny to change it over. She is having a special invitation only party for the weekend. Hailey keeps ignoring the odd things that are happening around her and to her employees. Her almost ex-husband tries to talk her out of the inn after having a visit of the inn. Will her denial of the “Haunting” be the end of the end and maybe the end of her?
The story does start off slow but gives you a huge surprise ending.
Without giving away any spoilers, if you like thrills, then you will like this book.

“This book was simply amazing. It brings to life the books of childhood fae in so many ways… a 5 STAR read from start to finish” ~Random Musesomy (Amazon reviewer)
Dreams is the second book in the series The Arie Chronicles by Dani Hart. I would read Reality before reading this one. The stories continue into the next book. I would suggest this book for adults and young adults.
This story is the continuation of Arie’s life. At the end of the first book, Arie’s life was supposed to be coming together. But at the beginning of this book, we learn that there are more problems and secrets than ever. Arie is still torn by her love for River and the love for Ashe, even though he died in book one.
By the end I really feel that Arie has grown up and become the person everyone knew she could be. Even her heart seems to finally of made a choice.
Without giving away any further spoilers, if you like romance and fairies, then you will like this book. I can’t wait to get started on book three that comes out in 2015.

It would also be a shame to let a private hotel room go to waste when it contained such a beautiful sexy woman, so he moved closer and leaned against the wall beside her, letting his breath tickle her neck as he gazed down at her. He lifted a strand of her silky hair and let it sift through his fingers. Her heady scent wafted up to him, making him want to bury himself in her. Was it cherries? Maybe apple blossoms? “My heart almost gave out when your car went up in flames and I saw you thrown back. I was afraid you’d been hurt…or worse.”
Her breath caught audibly, and she worried her lower lip with her small, perfect teeth for a moment. Then she gazed up at him with sorrowful eyes. “It must have reminded you of losing your wife.”
“Not for a minute. I was worried you were hurt. That I’d lose you.” He traced the line of her jaw with the pad of his thumb and shivered when he felt her tremble. So she wasn’t immune to him. Good. Very good.
Her lashes fluttered and her irises grew dark. She shrank against the wall as if unsure what to do next. Then resolution gathered in her eyes. “Oh! Well, uh, I should go. I’m sure I’ve been missed. A manager never rests.” To his dismay, she ducked under his arm and escaped to the door. When she tried to turn the handle, however, it wouldn’t budge. Then she tried to turn the knob with both hands, pulling hard. Her eyes flashed fire. “What the hell? Can you help me? I can’t get out.”
“Do you really have to go? Or do you just want to get away from me? Am I that repellant?”
She looked as if she’d rather have fire ants crawl up her legs than answer his question.
Before she could respond, he jumped in. “I have a confession.”
She stopped trying to jar the door and her attention riveted on him, her forehead puckering. “Did you do something I need to know about?”
Drawing in a long, shuddering breath, he look heavenwards and crossed his fingers behind his back hoping she wouldn’t throw something at him, hoping she’d be okay with his admission. “I found your blog and read it.”
Paling, the blood fled from her flesh and her eyes looked like sooty coals against her face. Her gaze clashed with his and held. “How did you find it? I used a pseudonym and I put it on privacy settings.”
He screwed up his lips, and scrubbed his hand over his face, preparing to tell more painful truths. “I’m a bit of a hacker and I like to research the people I’m working with.” Not sure she’d be receptive to his theory, he left out the part that he thought the ghosts led him to her sight. He thought they were closet romantics. He wouldn’t be surprised if they’d locked them into the room now to force them into some alone time together.
When a tsunami of emotions flitted across her face he tried to read them. Fury. Embarrassment. Lust?
“You investigated me? You read my private musings?”
“You wrote about me? In some very intimate ways. At least I presume it was me since you used my name.” He fixed her with a piercing gaze. “Did you?”
Ashley Ladd lives in South Florida with her husband, five children, and beloved pets. She loves the water, animals (especially cats), and playing on the computer.

After fighting for their love in almost impossible conditions will everyday life be their downfall? Christmas is a time of peace and love. 50% of sales for Chartreuse & This Christmas are being donated to the Knox-Whitley Animal Shelter in Ridener’s hometown of Corbin, KY. The shelter suffered a fire in November 2013 which destroyed their home and claimed the lives of several cats and dogs, including their beloved mascot, Sassy. They are seeking to get kennels for the new shelter. One of the main characters in Chartreuse, Rowan Kelly, is a vet, and Ridener feels there isn’t a more perfect cause for the sales to be donated towards. In April, she donated $300 to The Trevor Project and The Ronald McDonald House through the success of her first M/M romance novel. She’d like to thank you in advance for your support.

The first book Eternal Ever After started out slow for me that I found it hard to want to continue the story. The beginning introduced the main characters Holly and Arie. Holly is a human who was born with the gift of premonition and to see auras. Holly now hides herself inside of the small coffee shop that she works at to limit contact with people when he spies a man who continually comes in to be served by her. Arie is a centuries old vampire with acquired taste who finds himself at a coffee shop day after day to see a woman who reminds him of the woman he used to love. The first eight chapters where about them meeting, afterward is when the book started to pick up and I truly got into the story. Holly who wanted to prove she was Holly and not a reincarnation of the past while she was being threatened. Arie had to overcome his past in order to protect her and have a life with her.
The second book in the Ever After series Fallen Ever After picked right up from the ending of Eternal Ever After. This was quite enjoyable as it did not feel as though I was missing something or had to guess. The author set it up to fall in line. With Arie’s past gone and Holly now a vampire the couple feels they can finally move on until Holly starts getting mysterious letters and Arie starts forgetting she exists. Now Holly must once again face Aries past head on if she is to have her happily ever after with him. All it takes is tracking down a half daemon/fairy that has a vengeful streak.
Both stories were entertaining but I felt that with the multiple grammar mistakes that this book was a first time author. I also would have enjoyed the story more if those first few chapters in the first book had more action to keep the reader interested. The story plots were great and kept me interested. Based on the content of these books I recommend an audience of 18+… I am giving this series 4 fangs.

Author: Christine Manzari
Genre: Young Adult Dystopian
Being a Sophisticate of the Program seems like it’d be a pretty sweet deal: a little genetic alteration and anyone can be smarter, faster, and stronger. It’s a dream come true. All you have to give up is your freedom.
Cleo is a Sophisticate and she has a bright future in the Program. But she has a secret. When she gets upset, bad things happen. Explosive things. Things she can’t control.
When her secret is discovered, she’s sent to the Academy to train in the military branch of the Program. She’s destined to be a human weapon in the war that’s been going on since Wormwood occurred nearly 30 years ago. She soon learns that although her ability is unique, there are others like her — other Sophisticates with lethal skills and odd code names like Archerfish and Mimic Octopus.
Immersed in a dangerous game of supernatural powers and dubious motives, Cleo doesn’t know who to trust. Ozzy, the annoyingly attractive cadet who has perfect aim in weapons class and deviant lips behind closed doors, begs her not to use her powers. He’s the golden boy of the Program, but can she trust him? Or will she find herself a target, caught in his crosshairs?
I wasn’t so sure about this one at first. Until Chloe set her room ablaze! Then Holy Moses did the fun start. Catty girls, secrets, mysterious boys, strange abilities, the list is endless. The characters are so well created and funny, witty, just all around awesome. They are friends that you wouldn’t mind having at your back. They are all strong, loyal, and a little rebellious. Christine Manzari did a bang up job for her debut novel, and I for one cannot wait for the second book. Hopefully like the first there are many twists and turns to battle through. I think most of the YA genre and even Sci-Fi genre book readers will fall for this book/author.

The first thing Christine does when she’s getting ready to read a book is to crack the spine in at least five places. She wholeheartedly believes there is no place as comfy as the pages of a well-worn book. She’s addicted to buying books, reading books, and writing books. Books, books, books. She also has a weakness for adventure, inappropriate humor, and coke (the caffeine-laden bubbly kind). Christine is from Forest Hill, Maryland where she lives with her husband, three kids, and her library of ugly spine books.

Book Excerpt 1:
My hands were shaking. My blood was on fire and my skin was crawling as if my insides were actually boiling. Air. I needed air. I tried to crawl off the bed and get to the window, but the words from the email were blazing through me—a bellowing inferno of indignation.
Cease and Desist.
My hands covered my ears as the words screamed through my head. Or was I screaming?
Pressure was building inside me and I just wanted to let it go, to feel relief. It was too much. I was too hot.
The computer exploded, throwing flaming plastic and metal across the bed. The television answered with its own death, spewing its fiery innards onto the desk and floor, igniting the carpet instantly. The rage in my chest echoed like a heartbeat and with each pulse, something in the room burst into flames. In less than a minute, I was surrounded by broken and burning bits of my room, all of them melting or on fire. A small untouched circle of floor under my feet was my haven, my island in the disaster. Flames raced up the drapes, licking at the ceiling as shards of glass from the window fell inward with an eerie tinkling.
I stared in disbelief, unable to move, as the room burned around me and smoke curled to the ceiling like agitated ghosts. The goldfish flopped helplessly among the wet rubble of his shattered home. Pictures hanging on the wall curled up in the heat, catching flame and falling to the floor in large, ashy flakes.
What had I done?
Book Excerpt 2:
“I’m going to kiss you,” he warned me.
“Don’t . . . ” I answered weakly as his fingers rested on the back of my neck and his thumb softly traced my cheek.
“Don’t . . . stop.” What was I saying? Was I telling him to stop or not to stop?I wasn’t sure that my mind and heart were listening to one another.
Whatever the meaning of my mutterings, Ozzy took it as an invitation. He brushed his lips against mine and I closed my eyes, letting his mouth leave soft, smoldering, caresses on my lips. The light brushing of skin on skin mingling with hot breath was intoxicating and made me feel lightheaded. I tried to tell myself it was just the concussion and not a genuine reaction to the infuriating boy I couldn’t seem to say no to. At least not successfully.
Ozzy’s mouth took its time exploring me, trailing down my neck, across my jaw, and then back where it had started. When I reached up to thread my hand into his hair, I briefly felt him smile against my lips. This was nothing like any kiss I’d had before. This was perfect. His hands moved down over my shoulders, his arms wrapping around my back to pull me close. My breathing stuttered and became desperate as he continued to kiss me . . . gently . . . passionately . . . skillfully.
A little too skillfully.
How many other girls had he kissed just like this? Probably lots.
And that killed the mood. I turned my head away and pushed on his chest to create some distance.
“What’s wrong?” he murmured.
“I’ve had enough.” Lie.
“Are you sure?” Ozzy asked, trying to catch my mouth with his again.
“Totally sure.” Another lie. And another push to create more distance between us.
“Maybe I could convince you otherwise,” Ozzy suggested, leaning forward, brushing his lips against mine, his breath leaving a trail of warm promises along my mouth.
I straightened my arm to keep him a safe distance away. Safe enough that I wouldn’t be tempted. “Not necessary,” I struggled to keep my willpower strong and the tremor out of my voice. “You weren’t that great the first time around.” The lie of my lifetime.
Ozzy backed away from me, the surprise on his face was quickly replaced by intrigued curiosity. I expected to see annoyance, not a smile. But there it was, a cocky smile. It seemed impossible to offend him.
“Well, I’ll take that as a challenge,” he announced.
Book Excerpt 3:
I could hear Arabella’s and Sterling’s warnings to stay away from Ozzy echoing in my thoughts, but my lips seemed to have a mind of their own. I leaned into him and my mouth met Ozzy’s once, twice, three times. And when my lips parted in invitation, his arms tightened around me and his breath quickened as his kissing became more eager, as if he was dying of thirst and only I could quench it. His tongue slid across my top lip and then he sucked on my bottom one.
He gently walked me backwards until my back pressed up against the clothes hanging from the rack behind me. I dropped my pajamas and toiletries to the floor and my hands went to his chest, roaming inside his jacket, working their way under his shirt to touch the tight skin of his stomach. Even knowing how dangerous this boy was and what he was capable of, I couldn’t stop myself from touching him. The light graze of my fingertips caused his kissing to become more insistent. I reached up and tried to pull his jacket down his arms. There was too much clothing between us; I wanted to feel the muscles of his arms, the warmth of his skin.
When he continued to kiss me and run his hands through my hair, ignoring my desire to get his jacket off, I swung him around and roughly pushed him up against the clothes rack, ripping the offending clothing off his shoulders and throwing it to the floor. My less than gentle treatment caused him to smile through the kiss, our teeth grazing briefly.
“Flame Fatale,” he murmured against my lips. “You’re an animal.”
I was surprised at my own actions. I certainly had never acted like this before. I’d tried kissing one of the Homework Harpies once, just to see what all the fuss was about, and I hadn’t been impressed.
But Ozzy . . . Ozzy’s kisses tasted like mystery, and danger, and promises of things I never knew I wanted. His breath was intoxicating, his hands were persuasive, and I wondered why I’d been trying to prevent this from happening in the first place. I was crazy to push him away and I was crazy with the thought that he might pull away and take his kisses with him.
Book Excerpt 4:
We stood quietly, looking at the monument.
“All right then. Had enough?” Sterling asked. “Time to get back to the stadium before Farnsworth comes to.”
“Are you kidding?” Arabella grabbed our hands, dragging us through the cemetery and around the back of the building. The light was starting to fade as the sky began to morph from pinks and oranges into deep purples. “Don’t you want to see his original burial spot?”
“I didn’t really want to see his current burial spot. I just wanted your player’s card,” Sterling admitted as she dragged him along.
We wove in and out of the ancient grave sites, making our way down a worn path, under trees, and to the back corner of the graveyard which was cloaked in too many shadows for my comfort. Soon, we were standing in front of a traditional looking headstone with a carving of a raven underneath words that said “Quoth the Raven Nevermore.”
Arabella stood there for what seemed like an eternity, staring at the tombstone that wasn’t even the current resting spot of the poet anymore.
“He was an orphan, just like us,” Arabella murmured.
“How did he die?” I asked.
Arabella tore her gaze from the raven. “It’s kind of a mystery. He was found on the streets of Baltimore, delirious and in distress. He kept calling out the name Reynolds and the last words he spoke were, ‘Lord, help my poor soul.’ All of the medical documents have been lost. Some theorists think it was murder, some suicide, some cooping.”
“What on earth is cooping?” Sterling asked, kicking at a pile of leaves at the base of the headstone.
Arabella turned to face Sterling. “Hard to explain, you’ll have to look it up. But for the sake of simplicity, let’s just say he was forced to do something he didn’t want to do.” Arabella turned back to the tombstone. “Just like us.”
“That’s all very fascinating, but I’m afraid story time is over,” spoke a deep, strange voice.
I whipped around just in time to see half a dozen large men emerge from the shadows. Before I could even think about struggling, one of the men had caught me in a tight grip and another was putting something across my nose and mouth. I kicked out blindly, bucking in the strong grip of the man holding me. As a sickly, sweet, cloying scent filled my mouth and nostrils, Poe’s words echoed in my thoughts. Lord, help my poor soul.
And then everything went black.
“When I first saw you, you were so stunning I couldn’t think straight,” Sam began.
“When you first saw me you were looking at my ass,” I reminded him.
“Okay, you’re right.” Sam admitted with his hands in surrender. “But in my defense, it is a really fine ass.”
I rolled my eyes and swallowed a flattered laugh.
He continued, “But as the weeks went on, I saw that your intelligence matched your beauty, and Jolie, combined … you left me breathless. I had to get to know you. Then when you got sick behind More Hall, you showed so much strength …”
“Strength? I freaked out and puked all over you.”
“You fell apart and pulled yourself back together again. That took raw guts, Jolie. Trust me, I’ve known a couple people who’ve lived through some nasty things. It takes a hell of a lot of strength to get to the other side of it.”
I worried my bottom lip. He saw me as beautiful and strong?
“I can see the pain behind your eyes and the shadow you’re trying to live with—twenty-six years old with a PhD—you stopped living at some point and became driven. And your clothes—you’re trying to be invisible, which is virtually impossible for you because you have an amazing body.” He cocked an eyebrow at me, and if I had felt any anger at his intuition and bold assessment, it melted. “I want to know you. So, are you going to give our friendship a chance?”
In six years no one had ever done this to me, made me want to come out of the hiding place I’d built. I knew my voice would be pained and small but I spoke anyway.
“How do we do it?”
I expected his face to light up with his telltale smile, but it didn’t. Instead he became really serious. “No plan, Jolie. We live for each moment, each day. We find now and hold ourselves in that space until we’re ready to make a new one.”
“Okay … Sam. Friends.” I held out my hand to his.
He regarded it for a moment, took it like he was about to shake it, then said, “Ah, what the hell,” and yanked me up against him, putting his arms around me and folding me into a deep hug.
I liked the feel of him very much.

“Like Brokeback Mountain meets the military… this one is HOT!”
Maverick’s a deserter — a young soldier gone AWOL, escaping from his unit for reasons we don’t yet understand. But the real question for Slater is, why does he get a jolt of lightning down his spine every time Maverick looks at him?
The tension runs high between the two men, and boils over in Maverick’s prison cell when he calls out Slater for trying to hide who he is. Their passions are real, and the sex is hot… but are these two men making themselves vulnerable to forces beyond their control?
Its only short, 64 pages, 35 minutes reading time, BUT it packs a punch to the gut, it really does. The Sergeant is a nasty piece of work, and both men know this. Slater volunteers to “interrogate” the prisoner, since that is what Maverick becomes, being a US soldier not wearing his tags wandering around the Saigon jungle. It has a single sexual encounter between the two men, and its a tense encounter that I didn’t think was actually going to happen in this part!
Written from both men’s POV, a chapter each, clearly headed I really want to follow these two men and I hope that I get the chance.
Two lines stands out, and both men think it, almost simultaneously
Who are you…? I found myself wondering.
Who are you, and why does this feel so dangerous?
I cant give it five fangs, simply because its so short, so it gets a four fang rating.
“Like Brokeback Mountain meets the military… this one is HOT!”
An erotic military romance, telling the story of a conflicted army corporal and a handsome young soldier who’s gone rogue…
When passions collide with the call of duty, who’s the real prisoner?
I looked up to see a soldier heading towards us, a concerned look knotting his features behind a pair of black wire-frame sunglasses. His broad mouth was circled by three days’ worth of stubble, and he had dark, longer-than-regulation hair peeking out from an olive military cap.
This wasn’t the sergeant. His uniform told me he was a corporal – and besides, I could tell with a glance that this man was too smart, and not cruel enough, to be the Mayfield these soldiers had described. But something in the corporal’s demeanor caught my attention.
This man didn’t demand respect, he commanded it, from the strong, chiseled cut of his jawline down to the way he carried himself.
And as he pulled off his sunglasses to get a better look at me, a powerful force stopped me in my tracks.
His eyes were like fire-green emeralds that burned into the core of my being and set me ablaze from the inside out. I caught his gaze and held it, though the catalytic energy of our connection sent a flush crawling up my cheeks. I’d never felt anything like this, and I was powerless to resist it. The world around us seemed to drop away into a void, and nothing existed but the two of us.
My bottom lip dropped open as I stared at him, and I instantly felt a raw, pure, sexual urge coursing through my veins. Part of me knew he was unlike any man I’d ever seen before; another part of me felt like I’d known him my whole life.
This nameless man had a hold over my body, with a grip like iron, and in that moment I knew I’d never be the same.
He squinted into my face. “You speak English?”
I felt compelled to answer him – would have told him anything he wanted to know – but I was too tongue-tied to speak, too swept up by this strange mix of danger and arousal. I could only stand there, staring mutely, as my world turned upside-down.
Who are you…? I found myself wondering.
Who are you, and why does this feel so dangerous?
For Love And Money by Paige Timothy (Main Street Merchants #2)
Cynical Morgan has just about decided that no one could possibly fall in love with her – all the good guys want perfect girls, and she’s anything but perfect. But then along comes the guy who falls head-over-heels in love with her just as she is and helps her find the bright side of life again.
I received this book from the author and from Paranormal Romance and Authors that Rock
I got a toothache from reading this book. It is a very sweet and easy to read romance, and clean. I don’t come across many clean romances so it is always refreshing to read them.
I really liked Morgan and Todd, and the way they came together, and I enjoyed the secondary characters as well, but I felt like I was being told the story, which left it a little two dimensional for me.
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes their romance clean, and unconflicted, and is looking for an easy read.
I’m giving it 3 fangs.
