Excerpt Kasadya Hellhound Awakened –
There was a time when heaven was filled with peace and serenity. God, Jesus Christ, and all the Angels lived in harmony; no evil and no sin existed. Until one fateful day…
With all gathered to hear their Sire speak, God rose and addressed his Angels. Before all, he proclaimed His Son, Jesus Christ, was equal to Him. That Christ’s words should be obeyed as if they were His own. Christ would command the heavens, with the same authority as Him. All the Angels bowed down before Christ and accepted their Sire’s proclamation, all except for one…
An Archangel was furious with this proclamation. He was his Sire’s right hand, the deliverer of justice, the commander of many legions. He had served his Sire for centuries, and never failed him. It should be to him that God bestow power, not a Son whom had never even seen battle.
With his heart filled with hatred and jealousy, he gathered all the angels in secret. He told them that their days of sweet liberty were at an end. That God has now placed Christ as their ruler and that they should now obey his wishes. Many angels were angered at such a false statement, but many also agreed with the Archangel. He had led them for many years; why should they now question his leadership?
The faithful Angels fled to God and told Him what was happening, and together they prepared for war. With the sun rising on a new day, God and his Angels stood ready for battle against the Archangel and his followers. The battle only lasted a day, the Archangel and his followers defeated before the sun set for the night.
Seeing the angels on their knees before Him, He gave them one final chance… “Repent and declare your loyalty, and I will forgive you, my children.” He told his beautiful angels, tears falling with each word. This was His family. This was His love. How could they betray Him? Some of the Angels cried their penance, begging Him to forgive them for their deceit. They claimed that the Archangel deceived them, and they followed him into battle, as they have done for centuries.
God took pity on them, but still believed that their deceit must not go unpunished. He had spoken many times about the importance of punishment, that lessons learned must be earned… “I herewith grant you mercy, but as punishment you will be sentenced to an earthly realm. I will take your beauty as payment for my children lost today. In the place of your beauty, I will give you purpose. In mercy, and because I love you still, I give you life in this realm. Let this be known, that I was merciful this day,” God finished.
He placed them in an earthly realm, and called it Exsilium. In this realm they would carry their deceit, and earn their place with him. He took their beauty and replaced them with elements of his earth. Half would be of animal and element, and would resemble punishment. The other, in a humanoid form, and would resemble mercy. He called them his Fallen.
The Archangel, and those whom did not repent, were not that lucky. God looked into the eyes of His once faithful angels and only saw destruction, hatred, jealousy, and heartache. He knew that His beloved ones had died this day, and that others needed to be protected. But how could you destroy one you loved? He placed the Archangel, and his followers, in another earthly realm, but where Exsilium was above the earth, this one was in the center. With one wave of His hand, their beautiful forms were replaced with forms as ugly as their hatred and deceit. Using His word and blood, He sealed this realm from any other.
As He looked into the many eyes of hatred, He spoke his final word… “This realm will be called Hell, and you will be called demons. You, my once faithful Archangel, you will be called the Devil. Your angel name will be erased from the past, present, and future. You will be forgotten,” He proclaimed and left them to their demise.
Many years have passed since that day. God created mankind and cherished his new children. The male and female were his new hope; in them he would find peace again. But the Devil had grown strong through the years, and somehow managed to enter God’s garden. Here, he found the female God created, using her to strike back. He whispered words of deceit in her ears, and watched as God’s new children stepped into sin. With her first bite, a crack appeared in the seal around Hell, and demons escaped to earth.
From that day onward, the Devil and his demons created chaos amongst God’s new children, leading one after the other into sin. God looked upon this and decided to fight for his loved ones. He went to Exsilium and spoke to the Fallen… “You, my children, have proven your loyalty in the years that have passed, and so I came to offer you another chance at Heaven. If you slay the Devil and his demons to protect mankind, I will give you a place in my Heaven once again. With your last breath on this earth, you will join me and your brethren in Heaven,” He finished. The Fallen agreed and God gave them the power to move in and out of Exsilium to battle the demons. The war between Good and Evil began.
But as mankind spread over the earth, sin became their followers. And with each sin, the demons grew stronger and created more demons to torture mankind. The Fallen were now fighting against millions; they needed assistance to ensure victory. God had watched the battle from Heaven and saw that they were failing because of their numbers. He also saw that the demons grew stronger than the Fallen. He intervened and created a new creature. This creature would have features encompassing the best of both worlds. One half was as strong and loyal as the Fallen, while the other was as hard and enduring as a demon. This was His ultimate weapon. This would be His greatest creation. To ensure that these creatures could not be swayed, He placed Heaven’s soul into them. He called them His hellhounds.
The hellhounds delivered justice swiftly, as strong and just as the Fallen. Yet hard and durable like the demons, they conquered the earthly realm and the demons retreated. Not one hellhound could be swayed. All stayed true to their calling. God, knowing that the Devil and many more demons had retreated, gave His hellhounds life, and offered them a place among the Fallen.
Until this day they still watch over mankind, protecting them from evil. Will we be worth it?
This book is about Kasadya, a seventeen year old girl, who is entering her new life. She was raised as a human but when she was seventeen she had to go start her new life. Kasadya is a fallen. Fallen were created by God after an Archangel lead some of the other Angels in a rebellion. After they were defeated, God allowed those Angels who had fought in the rebellion a chance to repent and declare their loyalty. While God took pity on them, he still believed that their deeds must be punished, so he turned them into Fallen. The Fallen were given an early realm they could live in called Exsilium. The Fallens’ job is to hunt down the Angels who had not repented and were turned into Demons as these Demons are evil and trying to hurt humankind. This book starts out as a new Fallen starts her life as a Fallen so we get to see how she learns to use her new abilities as well as about the Fallen. Kasadya is a Hellhound. There are many Fallen and they are in many shapes, faes, vampires, werewolves, and many other kind and variations.
This book was awesome! I started reading this story and was immediately drawn into the story. The characters are so detailed that the story just seems to jump off the pages. I tried to pace myself and ended up reading the whole book in just two days. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes books about shape shifters or paranormal style characters. Also this is a great book for people who like books where good is fighting against evil.
I’m giving this book 5 fangs.

WARNING: If you have not read Kasadya Hellhound Awakened then this review might contain spoilers, so read Kasadya Hellhound Awakened first and then come back to read this book. This book is about Kasadya, who is now about nineteen years old. At the end of the first book Kasadya had started her Fallen training but was taken to Hell and had to find a way out. After Kasadya, along with another Fallen captured with her named Kai escape they had taken up with another Fallen who was fighting Demons, but with humans, which is against the Fallen laws so he is an outcast. So when a human was about to die Kasadya let him drink some of her blood and he turned into a partial Fallen. Now Kasadya has to return to face the Fallen council for her actions. Also Kasadya has to find a way to save Kali again.
This book was awesome! I finished the first book and was so glad I had the second book to
start immediately. The reader gets to learn even more about the characters and just really gets drawn into the story. I finished this book really fast as I had a really hard time putting it down. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes books about shape shifters or paranormal style characters. Also this is a great book for people who like books where good is fighting against evil.

Excerpt Kasadya Hellhound Born –
“Kasadya, don’t do this to me,” Chax spoke, using Corra.
I stopped completely and looked at him. Reaching for my necklace, I held it.
“I am so sorry, Chax. This is the only way; we can’t win any other way. I know; I have seen the end too many times,” I replied.
His face fell even more and he looked around, searching for a way out.
“I want to thank you… for being there for me. For searching for me when I went missing. For enduring all of my crap. I am sorry I messed up so many times. But not this time; this I promise. But most of all, thank you for loving me.” Even my mental voice broke down on the last part.
Chax started to scream and pound at the invisible wall, while others joined him. I looked at Nanini, shocked that she couldn’t get out.
“Take care of Max for me,” I sent to her.
Tears formed and ran down her cheeks, but she nodded.
“Kas, let us help you!” Lotan yelled. My friends, my family were still trying to save me. Tears ran down my own face now.
“I love all of you. Thank you for always being there for me.” Finally my mental voice began to a sob.
I turned away, afraid that the sight of them would stop me.
“Kasadya! Don’t do this to me. I beg you!” Chax yelled at me.
Demons were closing in around me, but my heart was so broken I just let the tears and heartache spill out of me.
“I am so sorry, Chax. Forgive me.” With that, I stormed forward.
I used my g-force punches to clear the masses out of my way. When that stopped working, I started shifting. Demons grabbed at me and some got in a slice or two. But I wasn’t stopping.
I saw Ballen trying to flee from me. He thought I was heading for him. Good. I needed him on the other side when I blew it up. Using my wings for momentum, I sent a massive g-force punch into the horde that remained between me and my target. They flew backwards, clearing the way for me to advance. I swiped at a few too close and took their heads. Blood sprayed all over me. Searching for the hole to make sure I was heading in the right direction, I saw the shoulders and arms of something freaking big, already beginning to breach.
I need to move faster!
I lifted up with my wings. They were tired, but I had no other option. Now I had the flying demons to contend with. We fought and sliced and I sent a few down to earth without a head. At last, I was advancing on the hole. Pain shot through my left wing and I tumbled to the ground, hitting hard. At the last moment I made sure that the front of my body hit the ground and not the back. Demons jumped me all at once. Ballen was yelling at them to stop me. I used everything I had left and flung out with my wings and arms. They went flying and just in front of me was the hole with the devil stuck in it. Ballen was standing at the entrance watching me, his face a mask of shock.
With a deep breath, I reached for the pouch and took hold of the balls. Now armed and ready, I just had a few feet to go. I stormed through the demons, not caring if they sliced me open. I wasn’t stopping for a fight anymore. I held the balls to my chest, sealing them from any other impact. Then, finally, I was at the entrance of the hole. With the last of my strength, I leaped into the air and went flying straight for it.
There were many things that go through your mind that moment before you die. I remembered my first step into Exsilium. Meeting Lada and Nanini. Meeting Chax and hating my first day. I remembered our fun at the beach, the Hellhouse and the grub spot. Seeing Lada and Lotan kissing for the first time. Meeting Max and Ryan, and then all of the rest. My heart no longer troubled by Kali or Seth or all the others who had betrayed me. I remembered finding Chax and the Fallen again. Seeing my parents again. So many memories bombarded me at that last moment. I remembered my day and night with Chax, and how it felt to be loved.
“I love you,” I sent a final message to him.
He was still screaming my name, begging for me to stop.
I remembered why I was doing this. For them I gave my heart, my life. Ballen’s shocked face was in front of me, right in my path. Just when I reached him, I dropped the balls and slammed into him.

This book is about Kasadya, and her travels and trials as a Fallen. The second book was action packed with Kasadya saving Kali from a Demon Prince again. Then Kasadya is trying to figure out how to get the Fallen to work with the half-Fallen created with some humans that were fighting Demons as well as working with some humans that also want to help fight the Demons. At the end of the second book Kasadya is trying to learn to live with some very horrible mistakes that she made while trying to save Kali’s life. The third books takes up right at the end of the second so there is no gaps or wandering what might have happened between the books. War is on the horizon and the Demons are going to be able to come to Earth if the Fallen don’t find a way to stop them.

Genre: urban fantasy, paranormal romance

Word Count: 68,000
Juliana Norris, Realm Walker with the Agency, is an Altered. A fact that she runs up against every time she’s forced to work with human police officers, and their species-ist commissioner, on cases they can’t solve themselves. Which happens more than they would like to admit
Her gift—the quality that makes her the best Realm Walker in the business, without boast—is the ability to read magical signatures. Whether the gift came from her father, the dark fae god of death, or the mage mother she can’t remember, is anyone’s guess. And when Altered children start going missing with only wild magical signatures as clues, her heritage is the last thing on her mind.
She can’t afford such distractions, and she definitely can’t afford to worry about the fact that her mate, master vampire Thomas Kendrick, hasn’t spoken to her since she saved him from a demon—maybe it’s because she had to stab him to do so. Because whoever is kidnapping these children must be very powerful to wield wild magic. Very powerful, and very dangerous indeed.
You jump right into Juliana’s life off page one. She is still working for the Agency, much to Thomas’s dismay. He’s moved out of his mansion and into a hotel as a temporary residence. He could not live inside those walls where Juliana suffered so much when he left her. He truly thought that he was doing the right thing and letting her live a life without him hovering and had no idea she would be a target. He’s hoping that she will come back to him and they can look for a new home together. Even as rigid as she has been, he is a patient man and is waiting her brain out while she works her feelings outs. She finally comes to realize that his motives were not selfish like she had convinced herself for so many years.
Juliana’s suspension from the demon case is cut short as her presence was requested on a human case. Hybrid, half-human half-fae, children are being kidnapped. The police have no clue why these children are being targeted. Once the first bodies are found, Detective Taft calls her in on the scene for a first look. Juliana is glad, but she doesn’t understand why. Public opinion forces the police chief to form a joint task-force. During the first meeting, Juliana discovers that the chief has known there were more children involved and spread over several states, meaning that it’s an Agency case. The detective’s actions make sense to her now. He knew it would be hers. Juliana also realizes that Taft is a witch, still human, but able to use magic. At each scene, Juliana uses her gift of sight and can ‘see’ wild magic in play. Wild magic is dangerous and unpredictable and worries Juliana. Her heart breaks as children are involved and she begins to run herself ragged. Thomas wants her to ease up, but knows she can’t and he helps her in any other ways that he can. Juliana is trying so hard to connect the dots before more kids are taken by the Thief. Every step that she takes closer to the Thief, he throws several more road blocks in her way. Can she solve this before more children die? Or will this case be the death of her?

Book Description: Keep your distance. Don’t look him in the eye. Feed him and leave.

Short about how Michael was turned into a vampire. Michael Bishop ends up being Thomas’s second in command, the one that he trust with everything including Juliana. On this path of death and destruction, he meets his salvation, Thomas, who sees potential in him and gives him a choice.
About the Author:
Kathleen Collins has been writing since Kindergarten. And while her ability has drastically improved, her stories are still about monsters and the people who play with them.
The rare instances that she actually finds some spare time, she spends it playing with her two boys. Three if you count her husband.
She is currently hard at work on her next book.
To be honest, I didn’t think that I’d like this book. I’m not into sports at all and I was fooled by the title and the cover. OMG how wrong was I!

He doesn’t remember her from high school. She was overweight and had no friends. Most kids picked on her relentlessly. Landon can’t remember much of it, but he comes to learn that he was so absorbed with football that he missed out on a lot of important cues. He only knows that now he must have her in his life. Can Autumn get beyond the past that haunts her and layers of mistrust? Will Valerie every truly leave his life?
This story for me was great as a quick read.
The story is of a ‘High Preistess’ of a family coven, Morgan. She stands alone in the protection of her town from the Demons. Till she faces the Demon Leader Shax, who wants her dead & to take over her town. But her guide, Maree, knows Shax well & helps Morgan summon the help she needs, to win the battle against the Demons.
Personally, I would have liked more depth to the characters. Just to know more about them, their links to the story were only brushed over.

At a party that Mick through she sees a man staring at her from across the room, she runs off to get a drink and the man ends of standing right behind her. Her really freaks her out and she goes running to Raphael. Gabriel didn’t mean to scare her but wanted to get closer. She is the first person he has felt an attraction to in six thousand years.
Wow where to start. There is a lot going on in this book. You have Jennifer with her special powers which what she is comes out slowly in the book. Raphael and Gabriel that have been around for thousands of years. Knowing Jennifer was married my first thought was she was going to cheat on her husband which I am not a big fan of love triangles especially when one is married. I have to admit it is played out nicely in the book. Gabriel is an ancient that has been sent to earth from New Taut to protect humans and also those back in New Taut. There is a lot of explanation in the book about the other world, and how they came to be here but it isn’t just thrown in your face at once. It is explained throughout the book in small enough doses where you don’t feel overwhelmed. As to having a favorite character, there are to many wonderful characters to pick just one. Fantastic read for lovers of sic-fi/ para-normal and romance.
Eternal Nights – With each passing day Jessica’s consciousness grew stronger. For twenty years she was content to remain as she was—trapped inside another. The life she led came to an abrupt end the moment she laid eyes on Raphael. At first she suspected they were destined to be together–his gentle touch confirmed it. Although he didn’t know it, he ignited waves of a fiery passion that burned deep into her soul. It became brighter every day, giving her the strength she needed. Somehow she would find a way to free herself from her grandmother’s powerful magic.
Since her birth she learned vicariously from observing others of her kind and until now she was satisfied with the life she led. She had everything one would need to live a meaningful life without the stress the human world inflicts on its inhabitants. With each passing day her obsession to be more than she was, intensified. Jessica knew she was gifted with her race’s abilities to communicate with others but until now she had never used them. They say practice makes perfect and she was at a point now where she could make her presence known—at least to him.
While Jennifer and Gabriel are off on the honeymoon. Raphael is looking after Nowaki, Jennifer’s pet wolf. For 22 years Jessica has been trapped inside Nowaki and was content to remain until she sees Raphael. Unable to communicate she projects images into peoples mind. The only time Raphael is open to these images is when he is asleep. So every morning he has been waking up after having these erotic dreams. Now everywhere he goes he is looking for the women in his dreams. Meanwhile Set’s organization is kidnapping lifemates and GI is doing everything they can to find them. Nolan Jennifer’s father is falling in love with Jasmine a human. Things are starting to really heat up.
This is the second book in the Sekhmet’s Guardians series. There are so many stories going on in this book. It keeps you turning pages. Different POV’s so you pretty much know what everyone is thinking and feeling. The romance between Raphael and Jessica was extremely well done and there are so many twists and turns it keeps you guessing. The war between Set’s vampires and the guardians is heating up. New characters are introduced and old ones start to find their partners. I found the book hard to put down. you don’t have to read the first book to understand this one, the author does a wonderful job of catching you up, but it is so worth reading this series in order. Wonderful for lovers of para-normal and romance.
Eternal Blades – Tshering Snow never meant to fall hopelessly in love with her savior, the Ancient, known as Lance, but she did. He seems to care deeply for her, spending every available hour with her, but will he be able to give up his past and settle down with one woman? After all, he has the reputation of a playboy.
Lance hates the personification he has created around himself. Afraid the others might not understand why; he has held back the truth from Gabriel and the other Guardians, he has waited for the right woman, the one Sekhmet prophesized so long ago. And now he has found her. When he is accused of fathering a child by both Gabriel and Tshering, how can he make them believe the child is not his, even if the boy is a spitting imagine of him?
After the women are attacked by Set’s Legions while relaxing on Jennifer’s new yacht, they come to the unanimous decision; they will train and join the Guardian forces. But that’s not as easy as it was meant to be. Old fashioned and hard headed, Gabriel is determined he will not having women fighting in their war.
When Tshering, Jennifer and Jessica are taken hostage by Set’s Legions all hell breaks loose on the Guardian’s compound. Lost without their mates, brother fights brother while they try save their women and put an end to the Legion’s terror. Will Sekhmet, the goddess they serve, step in and reveal the truth or will she leave them to find their own solutions to a never ending war as she has in the past?
Tshering one of the women that were captured in the second book, is falling in love with Lance, the brother of Gabriel. Lance known as a playboy finds himself falling just as fast. Lance is trying to hold true to a prophecy he received as a child without telling anyone about it. The women involved with the Guardians want to learn how to fight. They want the same training as the men. Gabriel tries to appease them yet at the same time make them want to give up the idea. He soon learns the error of his ways. The war with Set’s vampires is heating up and they are turning on each other.
Like the first two books in the series you can read them as a stand alone. The author does a wonderful job of catching you up. This book like the second has a good bit of humor in it. you find yourself laughing at loud at times. You still have the same great cast of characters in this one. You do learn more about Set’s vampires in this one. it really fills you in on what is going on with the bad guys. A few new characters are introduced which they fit right into the story line. Every page brings a new surprise, new twists and turns. Great for lovers of para-normal and romance
Eternal Tuat – Unlike the other three novels in Sekhmet’s Guardians, this first person, stand-alone historical takes the reader back in time 6,000 years, back to the land of New Tuat and to ancient Egypt. The question, how could two identical twin brothers turn out so differently are answered by Bagsu in this epic tale of family, growth, loss, betrayal and brotherhood.
Bagsu, his name alone strikes fear in the Guardian Nation.
What can cause one twin, destined to take his father’s place as a priest turn evil and lead a crusade to dominate the human race while the other fights to save mankind?
Finally, secrets are revealed when Bagsu leads us back in time to the land of New Tuat. Experience first hand what really happened to Bagsu and Gabriel long before they became immortal, when twin brothers were the best of friends.
This book takes you back 6,000 years to where it all started. Takes you through the life of Gabriel and his twin brother Bagsu. I was starting to like Bagsu in the third book, and after reading this one I really liked him. He wasn’t a bad person just things that happened in his life changed him. Meeting Nefer on the first day of school, the two become close and fall in love. As time goes by they become closer and Bagsu considers Nefer his soul mate. About the time he is ready to make it permanent Nefer is taken to the temple to become an oracle. With help from someone his brother knows Bagsu sneaks into the garden and meets with Nefer. Things heat up and they plan their escape.
This book was great for the fourth in the series. Gave you the background on the brothers, yes Lance is in this one. You learn their family life and what they were like growing up and what changed them to become the men they are today. Bagsu was a wonderful character in this book. Kind caring and loving until he loses the thing that is most important to him. He pretty much hits rock bottom and becomes close with other men in Set’s army that have lost love ones. This bonds them and makes them brothers. Takes you right up to the point of where they come to earth and the story behind the war that is being fought in the first three books. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

SNIPPET: ETERNAL LOVERS
“SIT!” the black haired one, demanded.
He sat down in the chair directly next to Bill. He started to speak, but before he uttered a single word, he was silenced by the Ancient’s unspoken command.
“Do you know who I am?” The largest of them asked.
“Sire, I can only assume you are one of the seven Ancients, one of the makers of our race.”
“I am Gabriel, once know as Netchkhet. I am the leader of the Guardians.”
“Sire, it is an honor.”
“Silence. Do not speak unless you are spoken to. Your fate and the fate of that…” Gabriel said as he sneered at Bill, “…is undetermined. Do not try to please me with your whimpering pledges of admiration.”
It dawned on David that Gabriel’s mouth was not moving as he spoke. He was interjecting his thoughts directly into his mind.
“The decision has been made. I was content to keep your little secret quiet for Jennifer’s sake. I even thought about giving her husband the opportunity to make a choice, Jennifer or you. Not anymore.”
He turned his attention to Bill and spoke aloud. “You will release all holds on Jennifer. You will never see her again. Everything you own is now hers. Your house, your money, and your cars… Do you understand?”
Bill’s head nodded as he was still unable to speak.
Gabriel looked back at him and once again interjected his question directly into his mind.
“Does this mortal mean anything to you? Or is he here simply for your amusement? Speak your answer aloud so all can hear.”
David wasn’t sure if the Ancients would understand his feelings towards Bill but he had nothing to lose by telling them the truth. They would know if he was lying.
“I love him more than my own life. If he would have me, I would have him as my lifemate.”
“That woman has stood in the way of my happiness…”
Gabriel growled then slapped him right out of his chair and sent him flying across the room.
“DO NOT USE THAT TONE WITH ME EVER AGAIN! That woman as you called her has a name, and you are not worthy to speak it. Now get your ass back in the chair. I’m not finished with you.”
He crawled back across the floor and into the chair without ever standing.
Gabriel pulled out a cell phone and pushed a button to call someone.
“Are you watching this? Good, tell me what this son of a bitch’s holdings are.”
“Okay, thanks,” the Ancient said before flipped the cell phone closed.
“You’re lucky I don’t kill the two of you right here. Knowing what is in your veins gives me that right.”
He knew exactly what Gabriel was referring to. All immortals knew their own ancestry. He swallowed hard, hating the fact he was a descendent of Unab.
“In spite of everything you have done; the pain you have inflicted on a mere innocent, I will allow you both to live. I do not want to dirty my hands with your blood, for if I were to kill you, I would be unworthy of her presence. But I can not let you off scot free. You will make restitution on behalf of your new lifemate to Jennifer. Do you agree to my demands?”
David didn’t know what or how much it was going to cost him but he was willing to pay anything to have a life with Bill. He placed his right hand over his heart and bowed his head.
“Sire, on the blood of my father, I do so agree.”
The oath was given.
“Good. I have been informed that you have considerable holdings. You will deposit twenty five million dollars into a Swiss bank account we set up for her. In addition, you will deposit five hundred thousand into her personal bank account. For every year the two of you live, you will continue to make an additional deposit of the sum of five hundred thousand into her Swiss account. My associates will send you the information you will need within 24 hours. She will never know this money comes from you. Neither of you will see her again. Jennifer will remain under the care and protection of the Guardians for her entire life… Do you understand me?
David bowed his head. “Yes Sire.”
SNIPPET: ETERNAL NIGHTS
Hours later, with stars twinkling over head and a bright full moon, Raphael and Jessica walked barefoot out on the long cedar dock that overlooked Jennifer’s favorite cove. They sat, dangling their feet in the cool water, enjoying the quiet surroundings after a day packed with travel and entertaining others.
“Jessica, there are some things we need to talk about,” Raphael said, sadness seeping into his vocal cords as he spoke.
She didn’t want him to be sad–not now–not ever. Turning her head she looked at him, waiting for him to continue.
“When… After Jen did the separation…”
“Raphael, I think I know what is bothering you… you think I don’t remember you saving my life but I do… It’s what saved me, Ray.”
“Ray? Since when did I become Ray?”
“The minute I first laid eyes on you back at the animal rescue center. You were my ray of hope, my ray of inspiration, the one that gave me the strength to fight for what I believed to be my destiny.
“And now that you are here?”
There was a questioning tone to his voice–one she wasn’t sure she liked. His attitude was towards her was changing. Something is off. Had all of it been a lie? For over a week they remained by each other’s side. He never left her alone for more than a few minutes the entire time they were in the mountains. Was everything they encountered, night after night, while he slept a lie? Was it just some fantasy she created in her own mind to give her the strength she needed to overcome her grandmother’s magic? Was he just being kind to her out of some sense of obligation or for his love for Nowaki?
“You’re not sorry about offering your life force to me, are you?” She questioned silently, trying to hide her panic.
“Oh no, I was just afraid that you didn’t remember and that you might be uncomfortable with the idea… I don’t want any secrets between us… and I don’t want you to feel like you are being forced into a relationship you may not want…”
Want? Was he kidding? Ray is everything… my reason for living, for existing.
“After thinking about it, I don’t think that little action bound you to me… You do know that you are free to make your own decisions on where you want to live… who you want to be with…”
Is that why he hadn’t touched her this past week? He wanted her to choose someone else. It had never dawned on her until now, he might not want her. She fought back the tears as she stood up, slid out of Alice’s grey sweat suit and dove deep into the icy dark water.
In the mountains on the day they visited the cabin where she was born, Jennifer told her of her experiences as a Selkie. Jen had always had a love for water but said, “Never before embracing her Selkie side, did she truly know what it meant to be one with the water.” To be emerged and comforted by the depths of the deepest pools was something she was longing for–needed this very instant. No wonder broken hearted Selkies sought comfort at the bottom of the ocean. The minute she dove in she felt the water protecting and comforting her like a mother’s womb–like Nowaki had for so many years.
She wasn’t sure where this water would take her–hopefully somewhere away from here–away from all the pain she was feeling. Perhaps she would eventually find the great ocean Jennifer talked about–perhaps she would find others of her kind where she could live out her days. Why, oh why did I take Ray’s gift? The wounds would have killed me and I would have been spared from this agony.
SNIPPET: ETERNAL BLADES
Lance stopped just before they made their way to main floor of the estate. With both of his hands on her waist, he turned her around to face him.
“Are you sure you’re okay?”
There were still lines of worry on his face. When he first arrived back at the dock he ran to her, leaving someone else to care for his boat while he quickly checked her over for injuries. She assured him she was fine. His hands traveled over her entire body. In fact, she was more than fine. Seeing the love on his face, she would gladly endure it all over again. Her heart was pumping adrenaline faster than it ever had and it wasn’t just from the fight or the excitement of what transpired–she was once again reassured he cared deeply for her.
“Lance, I’m okay… really. I’m just worried about Marie. I didn’t mean to keep her underwater so long… but I didn’t have a choice… I was afraid if I returned to the surface too soon…”
“Honey, you did the right thing. You heard Michael, Marie is going to be fine. He only called the OB to be on the safe side.”
“I hope so…”
He tilted his head, placing his lips on hers, bringing her closer and into the comfort of his warm embrace. When they broke apart, she noticed his eyes were clouded with moisture.
He stroked her cheek with his thumb. “God, I thought I lost you… I’ve never been so scared in my life.”
She was amazed… no, shocked. Lance who was always so composed was rattled while she seemed to be holding it together.
“Lance, I’m fine, really… Come on, I think we need to go in the dining room. Gabriel is still waiting to hear what happened.”
“It won’t hurt my brother to wait a few more minutes… I just need to hold you for a while… Please?”
He wrapped his arms around her, pulling her closer to him.
“You’re sure your okay?” He asked again.
She nodded her head which was resting on his strong shoulder.
Seconds passed before he pulled back, smiled at her then took hold of her hand. “Come on, let’s go join the others.”
SNIPPET: ETERNAL TUAT
Time seems to stand still as I ingest the bitter-sweet fruit which is offered to me. The power of my ancestors and the knowledge of the Gods overwhelm my entire being, changing me somehow into that which they are. I can feel my body undergo a transformation as each drop I swallow is absorbed in my organs. My muscles twist and pound against my flesh. I grow in height and strength.
I’m suddenly aware of all things around me; my senses are alive taking on a life of their own. I hear the thoughts of others–in this room and outside these sacred walls. A hunger I have never had before engulfs me. I want more, need more, demand more. I tip the silver chalice that graces my hands to my lips knowing the life it shares completes me and makes me whole. I am absolved of my past sins, washed away like a fresh morning rain; I am born anew under the hand of my Lord and Master. His blood is my blood, his thoughts become my own, his words are my words. Reborn in duty, sacrifice and blood I shed those things I once held dear to my heart as if they are nothing more than rubbish laid out on a street corner left for someone to pick up. Love for others outside this small circle of service is washed away from me as if it was a tide going out to sea never to be seen again by human eyes. It is replaced with an emotion I have no words for.
The transformation is complete.
Indifferent to what others might believe, I am he, holier than the most high. I am as my ancestors; I am a God in the eyes of mankind. I am Bagsu, the Son of Set, born not by his seed but by his blood making me Lord God over this Dominion and Chief Prime above all others who serve He who is above all others. I am Bagsu; fear me for my wrath is upon you.

I was taking more notes when a deep, sexy voice whispered in my ear. “Hey, Kitty Kate.” Every part of me was instantly aware of his presence. Even the hair on my arms paid attention. I was surprised I hadn’t smelled his Swagger body wash before I heard him. I turned around and my breath hitched. I took him in from head to toe. His sandy brown hair was short and messy, like he’d styled it with just his hands, and his light green eyes were even more piercing in the sun. His faded jeans fit his ass perfectly, and hung looser around his thighs. His tight, teal t-shirt clung to his hard abs and biceps with a tattoo that peeked out from under his sleeves. I was determined to find out what it was a tattoo of—and if he had any more. But, it hadn’t happened—yet.
“Hey,” I said back, my voice breathy. “What are you doing here?”
“I was a witness,” Hawke answered. “I just gave my statement.”
I looked around. I hadn’t seen his super sexy blue 1967 GT Shelby Mustang with white racing stripes. My eyes were trained to notice it. I would have found it immediately.
“I don’t have it today,” Hawke said, reading my mind—no doubt one of his many talents.
Hawke had two giant red brick buildings on his property that matched his giant red brick house. One was a gym. The other was a garage. Though I’d wanted to go in the garage, so far I’d only been invited to Pain—my nickname for his gym. I’d been looking forward to checking out Hawke’s car collection, and wondered what he could possibly be driving today. I looked around. I didn’t see a Lamborghini, and I was a little disappointed. “What are you driving, then?”
He nodded in the direction of a glossy black Harley with some sort of tribal design in matte black that stood out against the gloss. A black matte helmet hung from one of the handlebars. Everything about it said smooth, sexy, and dangerous. I sucked in a breath. I’d already been in lust; Hawke on a bike catapulted my emotions straight to I’ll-do-anything-you-want-just-say-the-word territory. A vision of Jax Teller merged with Hawke in my head. My face got hot at the thought.
Hawke’s lips slid into a slow smile. “Want a ride?”
Did I ever. And not just on the bike.
When I was nine, Mary Ann Boggs had written, “Rosses are red, violets are blue, I turned out perfict what happened to you” in my yearbook. I’d returned the favor by writing, “At least I can spell, you stupid butthole.”
That had resulted in a phone call from Mary Ann’s mom berating my dirty mouth and questioning my mom’s parenting abilities. Despite my attempts to show my mom the yearbook signature to prove I had just cause for my profanity, and Mary Ann actually was a stupid butthole, my mom didn’t see things my way. She’d turned into a red-faced, female fury in a pink checkered skirt and pantyhose. I maintained that the pantyhose were probably the biggest part of the reason she was so angry, and had she not been wearing them, my sentence might have been less harsh. But, thanks to the demon who invented hosiery, she’d washed my mouth out with soap—I still hadn’t forgiven her—and told me never to use that word again. I had, and much worse, but I tried to be careful about swearing in her presence. It was the one time I’d seen her truly out of her mind with rage in my whole life.
