Suicide.
That’s what being with Kate Browdy is. She’s sick. And now my father has knocked her out because her immune system can’t deal with this virus. Seven years of fighting leukemia is destroying her.
I can’t deal with this.
I’m not strong like her.
Survival instinct kicks in, so I do what I know—I call Ellie. Numb the pain.
But there shouldn’t even be pain. What is it about this girl?
She’s not good for me, and I’m not good for her. I’m a freaking disaster, and Kate deserves better.
Maybe it’s time to cut my losses.
I loved the story from Damian’s POV. Even though he falls for Kate who has cancer and you think it is going to send him further into his downward spiral. You find out that true love and acceptance from someone can heal a broken heart and soul.

The Missing Planets
By Hawk MacKinney
Planet Terato has become a member of the assembly of the Confederated League of Allied Star Systems. The Murian Outpost Terato once commanded by His Imperial Majesty’s Lord High Chamberlain Herklo Korvo XXXIV is now Teratoan staffed and under the command of Teratoan Eklam a’Qoc.
From the uncharted reaches between galaxies, attacks of extraordinary weaponry come against Terato and the Myr worlds of the Murians. Terminus Terato’s expanded link-portals and converter power modules are virtually useless. Power loss, defenses, communications and travel are totally disrupted. High Chamberlain Korvo’s unexpected return to Terminus on a mission for His Imperial Majesty leaves him stranded on Terato. Attacks grow more massive, more unpredictable; spread across the worlds of the League, as an isolated Terminus struggles among the shattered rubble and whispering remains of an ancient Polity of star-walkers.
Family and friends are lost, empires and civilizations in disarray, Terminus and Planet Terato almost defenseless. Desperate for answers, their worlds being overwhelmed by this remorseless aggressor, Eklam and Korvo reach across unexplored space in a despairing gamble and the last reserves of converter star-substrate, seeking one insignificant star system of gas giants and rocky inner planets for possible relics of the elusive Lantaraan Polity.
The portal hummed with a pulsating drone; grew louder. Korvo recognized the cascade effects of a portal overload. “Converter intermix-portal lock!” he yelled. Shoved Martin hard, “Get away!”
Magnetic loops of plasma streamed out; superheated beyond a Sol corona; mixed with hydrogen substrate; sucked into the white-hot rim of the portal frame. Converter commands useless. Arnov and Drov jumped away from their smoking consoles. A belch of uncontained hydrogen-plasma sublimated a cloud through the camp. Vidscreens sizzled; acrid smoke drifted up to curl toward the inanimate beast consuming the portal. Cermet footings fused; a console imploded. Arnov, tossed against one of the supports; green blood oozed along his shoulder. Drok’s head bumped against cermet supports. The pounding drone of the portal growled like a wounded Murian swamp dragon. Bundles of raw stellar core screamed through Jupiterr’s turgid atmospheres, tearing at the planet. Colossus Jupiterr magnus rolled with disruptions. Agitated plasma entangled with antimatter; churned methane storms into frenzies, giant arcs exploding through the clouds; snaked around their camp. The white-hot remains of the portal a bubbling melted puddle.
Ek shielded his eyes from the scorching brightness; helped Arnov up. Through the shredded side of the shelter, glimpsed Korvo scramble from under a scorched field stand, its collapsed bracing ripped away. Martin pushed himself up. The air inside their camp ionized; darken to oranges and yellows and purple-blue charged photon auras. Converters still pumping, sucking substrate, at the same time sagging in seared taffy-puddles, their shell alloys disassociating in sputtering kaleidoscope rainbows and blistering caustic nose-stinging swirls.

A different viewpoint of the old idea that we here on earth have been at least visited by higher intelligence in our past.
As an independent reviewer for Paranormal Books and Authors that Rock, I enjoyed the storyline of this book and the interactions between characters kept me reading to the very end. The action scenes were very exciting as well. I am more of a sci-fantasy geek so the technical terms and discussions of physics tended to make my eyes glaze a bit, but the characters were engaging enough to keep me reading. Between the high level of technical speak and the occasional feel of reading a script I give this one three fangs.

lunged, knife out, ready to slash at him. He jumped back in time to avoid the
full blow, but I still caught him across the arm.
hissed and glared at me. “You’re sloppy, Pagan, you need more
practice.”
smirked at the sight of blood. Oh yeah, I was going to enjoy causing him pain.
He deserved it after what he’d done to my brother. “I got a slice of you,
didn’t I?”
but that should’ve been a much more damaging blow than this little nick. You
only got me because I thought I’d rolled your mind. I won’t make that mistake
again.”
disappeared in a blur of speed. He was too fast for my human eyes to track him.
I spun around, expecting him to come at me from behind. He appeared by my side
and knocked my knife hand. The blade went spinning.
jumped back but stopped mid-retreat. I didn’t want to escape him. I wanted him
to pull me against his body, to forgive me for hurting him.
was wrong with me? I was here to kill him. I didn’t need his forgiveness.
took a hesitant step toward me, and part of me yelled to draw my other knife
while the other part demanded I caress his wounded arm and make sure I hadn’t
hurt him too badly.
fog washed over my mind when he ran his hands up and down my arms. “Give
me your knives, all of them.”
give him jack shit, Pagan!”
peered around Nyx and saw my brother. Deathly pale, with a sheen of sweat
marking his face, my brother swayed on his feet. He leaned against the
doorframe of the hallway, as if he couldn’t stand on his own. I moved to go
around Nyx. I needed to make sure he was okay, but Nyx seized my arm in a
vise-like grip, stopping me in my tracks.
master vampire frowned at my brother with disapproval. “How did you get
away from Laedan?”
corner of Jason’s mouth tilted up, revealing one long, white fang. The blood
left my head, and I actually placed my hand on Nyx’s chest to keep myself from
toppling over. God, my big brother really was a vampire. He definitely wasn’t
sporting any plastic fangs in that mouth of his.

scrunched his forehead. “He’s still changing.”
screamed and doubled over. I tried to jerk myself out of Nyx’s grip, but he
held firm, and the urge to move vanished as I watched my brother, horrified.
flinched. “This will be the last night he’ll be in pain. Until then, he
should really go lie down while I deal with you.”

from the floor.

scattered my thoughts. I stumbled as the weight of his mind crashed into mine.
The knife clattered to the ground. My knees cracked as they hit the floor, but
I barely noticed the pain. No physical sensation compared to what was going on
in my head.

he wanted, but my teeth were clenched together against the words, and I
couldn’t force them apart.

in sweat. My short nails had managed to dig into my palms. I uncurled my

looked over his shoulder for a split second, but he didn’t turn around.
“Don’t you get it? You’re bleeding. Even if you weren’t, I’m not sure I

the limit just standing this close to you. I’ve resisted feeding until now.
It’s why I’m in even more pain than normal.”
streaked down my face. “Jason, I can’t leave you here. He’ll kill you for
this.”
grabbed his shoulder and spun him around. He hissed, baring razor sharp fangs.
He knocked my hand away, covered his face, and backpedaled.

Please!”

your ass, boy.”
pushed me toward the door and took up a fighting stance in front of me.
“Pagan, run! I’ll find a way out, but right now you need to be somewhere
safe.”
backed away, glancing around the bar. The Devil’s Trap’s patrons sat around
watching the show, but none interfered.
my gaze went back to Nyx, he was already up and heading toward me. He shoved my
brother so hard Jason dented the wall. I turned and ran for dear life.

I leaned into him, resting my forehead against his chest, soaking up every ounce of calm that being near him offered. “I’m finally strong enough to fight this on my own. I need you for so many things, Porter. I need you to love me, and make me laugh, and be a father to our child, and comfort me, and to build me beautiful houses, and to take me on picnics.” I looked up at him, using my eyes to beg him to trust me in this. “But tomorrow, I can fight that battle by myself. In fact, I need to. I want to. And I’m going to win.” He used one of his big, strong, callused hands to sweep my hair behind my ear, and then his gentle hand cupped the side of my face.
“I’m so proud of you,” he whispered, his words caressing my face, opening up my soul, and hiding inside my heart. He pulled me into him again and I smiled against his chest. I felt his hand drop to the small of my back while the other cradled my head against him. I breathed him in again, loving what his embrace could do to me. “I am so proud of you,” he repeated, even quieter and closer to my ear. Only I could hear him. I felt as if it were a gift he was giving me. His pride. There were a few things I knew in life to be true – undoubtedly, one-hundred-percent, absolute truths. I knew that Porter loved me. I knew that we were supposed to be together. I knew he supported me, wanted me, cherished me, and appreciated me. But to hear him say he was proud of me was fulfilling in a soul-lifting kind of way.
I took his praise and I felt it inside of me, lighting me up. But his sentiment only mirrored what I already felt inside.
I was proud of myself.

Tales of Treasure by HF Parkhurst *Giveaway

From the lead canoe a man stood and flat-dived into the shallow water. With powerful strokes he swam toward the girl.
Crimson blood stained the agitated brown water where the jaws of a six-foot alligator clamped down on the girl’s arm.
“Mother,” she shrieked.
“Oh my daughter. Someone help.”
The reptile started its death spin just as the man grabbed it from behind. A handmade Bowie knife materialized in his hand. He plunged the eleven-inch blade into the creature’s belly.
Bright red blood gushed.
The man tightened his grip, and rammed the lethal blade into the gator once more.
More blood sprayed. The reptile’s tail lashed in a violent side-to-side motion and the man lost his grip.
With a spin, the gator dragged the girl under.
“Oh my Rachel,” wailed the girl’s mother. “Please help her.”
The man dove after the girl.
In the canoes, the tourists sat transfixed by the spectacle of horror.
The man erupted from the water holding the reptile, the girl in its jaws. He drove his bloody knife into the creature again and again.
Blood spurted, but the creature lashed its tail in a lethal snap.
“Ayee,” yelled one of the guides as he lunged into the churning, bloody water brandishing his Natchez Bowie knife. With both hands, he slammed the twelve inch blade into the creature’s brain.
The beast disappeared underwater, taking the man and the girl with it.
The canoe passengers searched the water frantically, but no movement stirred the bloody, silt-brown water. Seconds passed. Nothing.
Harry Carlton and his new love Helen aren’t your typical white haired seniors. They’re not the type to sit around and enjoy their grandkids. They take on the hunt for a four hundred year old treasure. Mixed in are lots of danger, villains and malevolent ruthless forces. This is a fast paced and interesting story starting with pirates of old and going all the way into today. I really liked Harry and Helen, they didn’t cower from danger they danced with it. They rescued hostages and fought with modern day pirates. There were lots of interesting characters from the pirate One Eyed Mary of old to Francisco now. There is revenge woven in and everyone scrambling to find the treasure, throw in a sinister and secret religious Order and you have a action packed read. Definitely a read for lovers of pirates and treasure hunts.

Bear and Bear Alike
Blackwood Brothers
Book Three
Marie Mason
Genre: paranormal, romantic erotica,
bbw romance, werewolves, shifters
Date of Publication: November 17, 2014
Book Description:
Ryland and Ryker Blackwood were twins. Identical, thigh clenching bear shifter twins who had no trouble getting women into their beds. Or bed. They’d shared just about everything in life, even women.
The scent of the cat shifter they found on their construction site was driving both Blackwood brothers crazy with lust. Or was it? Every time they thought they were getting closer to finding the woman who would be their mate, one of their bears backed away. The hot and cold feeling they were getting from their animals was confusing the shit out of them.
Was the cat shifter meant for one of them or both of them?
They were mates, but mates who knew almost nothing about each other. Ryland knew better than to rush her, so he eased into the kiss, tilting her head and aligning their mouths. His bear huffed at each hitch and shudder of her breath as he deepened their connection. His senses were attuned to every subtle movement her body made in response to his touch and he gloried in the shiver that ran though her and the softening of her body as she gave into her needs and leaned into him.
He finally gave into the temptation and swept his tongue into her mouth to taste. He sipped at her mouth, letting the flavors of his mate collide on his tongue, ensuring that he would never forget her. He’d thought he’d known what to expect. Strength. She had that in spades. Caution. Sweetness. Innocence. Passion. Orange blossoms and honey. Her taste exploded in his mouth.
The heat grew with each velvet slide of his tongue over hers. He smiled into the kiss when her hand rose and fisted in his hair. He obeyed the command behind the gesture to deepen the kiss, to drive them both a little crazy, and closer to the edge. The edge of no return where he took his mate, fucked her wet pussy and branded her as his.
She offered no resistance as he plundered her mouth. He thrust his tongue between her parted lips and took what he wanted. He licked at the roof of her mouth, skimming the along the row of her teeth before dipping down deep inside again. Finally, her tongue came out to tangle with his.
Emma knew she would soon be a goner. The feel of his mouth and tongue was doing wonderful things to her body. Her pussy moistened and her nipples pebbled and hardened. Goodness, how she wanted him. And she couldn’t have him. She tried to ease away, to break off the kiss but he growled and she sank back into his heat.
Why couldn’t she have this moment? This night?
Body shaking, she pulled back from the kiss. Kiss, huh. That was too tame of a description for what they had just shared. His lips were wet and moist, and redden. She knew if she looked in a mirror, hers would look the same. She licked her bottom lip, her tongue finding the slight cut where he had scraped it with his teeth.
“I, umm.” Not only did her legs feel like wet noodles, but her brain was fried from the heat of their passion. Ryker’s smile was smug. No doubt he could smell the arousal he’d created as well as see the effect of his touch. Her eyes were dilated and her body was shivering. She wanted him and he knew it. He continued to smile as he ushered her up the stairs. Two more flights and they were in front of the apartment.
EXCERPT TWO:
The bar was filled mostly with men who had come here to drink and forget their troubles. Or their wives. Watching one of the customers reach out and grab the ass of a waitress as she walked by, Ryker gave off a little growl. He might like to fuck women, but he never disrespected them. The crowd parted for him. Even though that had not been his intention, both he and Ryland took full advantage of the fact and headed toward the bar.
Before they could reach it, he stopped dead in his tracks, the scent of oranges pulling at him. If Ryland hadn’t been paying attention, he would have plowed into him and sent them both the floor. “Fuck.”
The scent of the cat shifter was playing the same tricks it had on the construction site. Outside, her scent had been strong, overwhelming him. Now, it had faded again.
But he could still follow it.
He jerked his head, pointing Ryland in the right direction.
Their mate was the curvy woman leaning over the bar wearing a low-cut blouse and a skirt short enough to show everyone everything should she bend over.
Oh, fuck no, Ryker thought as he pushed his way through the crowd that had yet to sense the predator among them and get out of the way. There was no way in hell his mate was going to wear that skimpy little outfit. Or work in a bar filled with shifters and humans just waiting to grab a piece of her fine-looking ass.
Fuck no.
He didn’t even take time to memorize her features. He had a vague impression of coal black hair and a creamy, pale complexion.
He gave a little roar and the path completely cleared for him. The males threw him an uneasy look and the women gave him I’ve-got-just-what-you-need smiles. He didn’t bother to return any of the silent invitations, his attention focused solely on the woman as she got her drink order and turned to walk away. She lifted the heavy tray above the swaying bodies as she made her way around the dance floor to the tables in back. He quickened his steps dimly aware that Ryland was on his six.
As she moved, the air drifted back to him, filled with her scent. Oh, there was no doubt this luscious bundle of curves was his. He shook his head to clear away the possessive though. Theirs. She was theirs.
Her ass swayed as she walked and it was all he could do not to crush the heads of the men who ogled her as she walked by. She was definitely giving off the mate vibe—his bear and c*** had both roared to attention the moment he’d caught sight of her.

Cursed: Brides of the Kindred 13
by Evangeline Anderson
BLURB:
A fierce warrior, forced to feel the agony of others.
A girl with a past full of pain caused by his kind.
When the two of them go undercover on a dangerous mission will they bond?
Or are they Cursed to be apart forever?
“Never you mind. The point is just because I looked the part doesn’t mean I acted it. In fact, I think we need to set some boundaries right here and now.”
“All right.” Stavros was beginning to be a bit irritated but he held on to his temper. “You’ve already kissed me, sat in my lap and put your hand down my trousers—what further boundaries do you wish to set that you are not willing to cross?”
She rounded on him suddenly, hands on her hips, eyes blazing.
“I was under the influence of drugs when I did all that. Well except for putting my hand in your britches but I couldn’t help that because I didn’t want a mess on my granny’s quilt.”
“True.” He nodded. “But you cannot deny that you enjoyed the healing kiss that we shared and you were completely lucid then.”
“I most certainly did not,” she protested, a bit too quickly.
Stavros stopped in the hallway just outside the entrance to the vast docking bay.
“I scented your heat, Charlie,” he said softly, searching her eyes with his own. “Kindred have an incredibly sensitive sense of smell. You cannot lie to me about what you were feeling when I healed you.”
Agent Charlotte Sayers of the EPB, hates everything about the Kindred and doesn’t want anything to do with them other than hunting them down and getting them off earth. Commander Stavros Rii is a Kindred but also a sin eater, he feels the pain of everyone, always. When Charlotte captures Stavros she’s proud she’s captured the Kindred, that is until she’s told to take him to her house instead of the precinct. She ends up the one place she’s never wanted to be, on the Mother Ship, where she finds out some of what she’s always thought isn’t so true. So she volunteers to be his partner to go to a alien couples retreat to get something needed to save earth. There the sparks ignite and Charlie still hates the Kindred, she’s finding it harder to hate Stav. This is a good book with some great sex scenes and some action. This one in a series and even though it did reference back to other books I didn’t feel like I was missing anything. I will be going back and reading the other books A.S.A.P. 5 fangs.
