The Politician’s Heart by Michael Prince

Karen Schroeder made the choice to be a politician. Her local success has caught the eyes of her party and she’s suddenly thrust into the national stage. She knows how to play the game and exactly who she needs to be, even if it’s not who she really is.
Sarah Lindstrom has never questioned her feelings, even when they made her believe her girlfriend would say yes to her proposal instead of breaking up with her. When she sees Karen Schroeder campaigning the rush of attraction is undeniable. Sarah knows she’s been wrong before, but her feelings for Karen overwhelm any apprehension for this woman who’s trapped in the closet.
As the relationship grows Sarah learns love can be painful when the one you love can only be herself with the door is closed. More importantly her love of Karen could cost her everything she’s worked for. Can love bloom when hidden in the dark?
Karen made the choice to be a politician. She also made the choice not to come out to anyone except her very best friend, Ashton, and her campaign manager. Ashton pretends to be Karen’s fiancee for appearences sake. But when Karen meets Sarah, she sparks something deep inside Karen that mean she needs to make another choice: carry on being someone she hides, who isn’t truly happy, or lose all she worked for in exchange for happiness with Sarah.
A lovely little story, of living with the choices you have made, and finally breaking free of them. Karen really is so far in the closet, and Sarah is out and proud. The clashing of these two lifestyles plays out beautifully, and is extremely well written. There are the usual haters, and those who embrace the lifestyle. I loved Ashton, and can see him and Mandy making explosive noises some time in the future. I loved the group, the Growing Strong Mafia ladies, and although Ive not read MaryBeth and Gabbie’s story, I might well go back and read them too,
Although a F/F plot line, there isnt much action, and this is NOT a bad thing. Its more about the love between Sarah and Karen, and working hard to get there. Its about finally realizing that you have been living a lie to everyone around you, and to your self. Its about fighting long standing prejudices, and overcoming them. It s about best friends, and them sticking up for you, and about making new friends too.
Like Isaid, a lovely tale, just a bit too lovely for me. BUT if you’ve never read a F/F plot line, this may be one to start on.
