Desires Unleashed by Miles Hightower

Title: Desires Unleashed
Author: Miles Hightower
Genre: Erotic Romance
Release Date: March 31, 2015

Mitch and Molly have a happy marriage, but they are wanting something more. They both admit to having similar fantasies and desires that go beyond their current relationship. See which discoveries they act on and how their marriage handles their erotic adventure as their desires become unleashed.

I look at a clock and see we are getting close to being late. Must be a guy thing, but I hate to be late. Molly doesn’t seem to mind. My only thought is that there is two other women we are meeting, and they are probably running late too.
I hear her coming down the steps. My heart starts racing in anticipation of seeing what she has been hiding from me for the last few days.
Molly turns the corner wearing a white dress. I don’t think I have seen her in a white dress since our wedding. She looks beautiful. The dress is skintight. It has a silver choker collar that attaches to an inverted V front. It barely covers the sides of her tits as it hugs her body. The edges of the dress finally come together in the small of her back, just above her ass and barely reaches down to the middle of her thighs. The back is completely open. With bare skinned legs and white-strapped pumps, fuck me . . .
Her hair is down, but tucked behind one ear. Molly doesn’t typically wear a lot of makeup, and tonight is no different. Diamond strings hang down from each ear and accent the sparkle in her eyes.
“How do I look?” she asks.
I stand staring, speechless.
“So . . .?” she asks again.
“You look beautiful,” I tell her. “Simply beautiful.”
I didn’t know how else to put it. Molly turning the corner from around the steps in a white dress took me right back to her turning down the aisle on our wedding day. I was speechless then too, but at least I had the time she took walking down the aisle to take her in and collect myself.
“Come on,” she says as she walks past me. “Don’t just stand there. Let’s get going. We are going to be late.”
Her scent as she walks by is divine.
She knows she just blew me away. Now she is just teasing me again.
I compose myself; grab my bottle of bourbon and her wine, get the car keys and we get going.
The drive starts out pretty quiet. “So, are you nervous?” Molly asks breaking the silence.

Miles Hightower is my alter ego and now pen name. He came about as my wife started reading erotic romance and discussing the books in FB chat groups. Wanting to be apart of what interested her, I came up with Miles Hightower as a persona to lurk about in the social media world while keeping my personal life personal.
I am a husband, for 16 years and counting, to my wife Sara. We have two children. When not being a husband and dad to them, I enjoy flying. At one point I wanted to be a career corporate pilot, flying Lear jets all over the country. After I graduated from college I taught people how to fly for three years. Long story short, a flying career didn’t work out and I ended up working in manufacturing. But that’s where I met Sara. So it did work out after all. I still work in manufacturing, as a Quality Engineer and now just fly for fun when the weather is nice.
Along with flying I also enjoy playing golf, darts, taking my family to water parks, sitting in our hot tub or on a beach with Sara and a glass of wine and now writing. I tried to learn the guitar a few years ago, but that didn’t go so well. Apparently I have no musical talent whatsoever. I am a product of the 80’s and still am very into the hair band music from that era. And no, I didn’t have big hair back in the day, but I did sport a mullet.
As far as my writing goes, I don’t write “Disney Fairytale” style romances (as I like to call them) where a knight in shining armor comes in and saves the damsel in distress. I write about fictional erotic fantasy from a guy’s perspective; about how a guy might think, feel or act in a particular situation. My stories are ideas I make up with a little reality involving the things that interest me, like flying, and life in general tossed in. I do research the things that I don’t know anything about, in an effort to make the story seem a little more real than complete fantasy. If it’s on the internet it’s true, right? I like my book(s) to come of as fantasy, yet slightly plausable.
Anything else you want to know about me, hit me up on my author page on facebook or at http://www.mileshightower.com.
Again, thanks for stopping by. Miles

I give this book 5 fangs ( I really loved it and can’t wait to read the next one)
I came into this book slightly perplexed as at the time of starting it I was unaware I was jumping into the third book in a series…. Of course once I got a couple of pages in I was very confused as these characters that I had know clue who they were discussed events I had know knowledge of.
That being said I actually enjoyed reading this book yes of course aspects were lost on me and I’m sure the romance between Lendyn and Callum  is all the sweeter if you have read two books of build up and I’m also positive I would have better understood the dynamics of love and angst within the Scott’s coven slightly better. Either way I read on and enjoyed almost every minute of it. ( I can’t fault for confusion that is not of the authors making but my own)
This book is explosive with romance and fights, death and revival Lendyn is uncovering secrets that some people don’t want her too. She’s getting stronger and more confident but with every step she is finding out who to trust can be a hard lesson.
Callum is confident but not overbearing he’s a little insecure at times but I found it made him more real…,relationships are hard work and that’s if your human so I give him a lot of credit for his patience and understanding in dealing with a very temperamental half-blood.
I loved Emma and Zach along with Katherine I found the supporting characters a lot of fun.
I recommend this book to anyone that enjoys paranormal romance. Now to read the first two books!

Book Excerpt

“Mystery—” Emma’s words died there. She seemed to remember at the same time he did, the article.  His aunt Laurel had shown them both a story from The Sun, a local paper, when they were still back in Oxford looking for Lendyn. The feature was about Devin being hounded by fans at the JFK. Accompanying the story was a picture of Lendyn and Devin. The article failed to identify Lendyn but assumed her to the role of mystery girlfriend.

As much as he wanted to believe in Lendyn’s visions, Callum did not believe Devin was in trouble. No, he believed they would find Devin safe and sound in some penthouse suite. That his disappearance was nothing more than a ploy to win sympathy from Lendyn. He believed this because it was easier than believing the other possibility. That Lendyn could see into the thoughts of vampires.

“People think Lendyn is behind Devin’s disappearance,” Emma shrieked, her attention turned to Callum, “it won’t be long before someone is able to identify her,” she looked back to Katherine, “who exactly is talking?”

Katherine adjusted the bracelet around her wrist, “Remember how Lendyn called Marley, Devin’s manager about a week ago? Well, she wasn’t the only one to call Marley.  Jonathan, his assistant, called and then,” she released her bracelet and met Emma’s eye, “his mother. Who, after Marley confirmed that she had not seen or spoken to Devin in weeks, said she was calling the police.”

“Wait, Devin’s mother called his agent looking for him too?”

“Yes,” Katherine answered.

“But his dad was behind Lendyn’s abduction.”

Katherine nodded, “Paul most definitely was, but I don’t think his Devin or his mother was a part of the equation. If you had seen the damage those howlers did to him, they definitely were unconcerned with his life.”

Callum got up and started his pacing again. Zach and Lendyn needed to hurry up.

Amongst the Killing by Joe Compton *Review

ATK Final Cover (3)

Title: Amongst the Killing

Author: Joe Compton

Genre: Crime Thriller

For as long as he could remember, Detective Charles Street wanted to be a police officer, moreover a detective. He wanted to be knee-deep in the action, working the biggest cases, and reaping the biggest rewards. But he didn’t think when his dream job came calling that it would ever turn into his nightmare.

For as long as he could remember, Jack Casey just wanted to be free, his own man to do what he pleased, when he pleased. He too craved action, and when his dream life came calling, he didn’t think he would meet anyone who was his equal, and definitely didn’t think he would ever have difficulty leaving behind the world he loathed and mocked.

Amongst The Killing documents both of their stories, told in their own words, as the moments unfolded when their paths first crossed and their lives intersected. How could two men, with two different philosophies, be so different and yet so connected?

As the ultimate cat and mouse game unfolds, each has to deal separately with the other’s decisions and the effects they have in turning their lives sideways and upside-down. Will one of them crack? Will one of them succeed?  Ultimately, the journey may mean more than the game, and show both of them the outcome neither was ever expecting.

review2

Detective Chuck Street works for the LAPD, working the homicide division. Happily married with a one year old daughter, he starts tracking Jack Casey, a average guy who suddenly turns serial killer. When Chuck almost catches him Jack turns his sights on Chuck’s family. It takes Chuck a while to get back in the chase but when he comes back it’s with a vengance.
This is a really interesting look at both sides, cop and criminal ,told from both POV. The characters really come alive and I came to care for them. Lots of action and somewhat fast paced. If youre into police or murder genres then this is the book for you. In the ultimate cat and mouse game who is smarter the cop or the crminal? The only problem was sometimes it jumped from one POV to the other without warning and I’d have to back track for a minute to understand who was talking. For that reason only I give it 4 fangs.

Joe - Headshot-3

Author Bio

Born in Hawthorne, CA in December of 1973 Joe grew up in Southern California; the majority of that spent in Torrance, CA. Writing has always been that thing he could do at an early age. He spent many a summer stints with his Grandma and Aunt where he was left mostly to his imagination and would escape by writing scenes and short stories; then acting them out in the backyard.  Sometimes bringing in his brother to help act or just be an audience member. Then when his mother went back to work, Joe would spend the summer with his brother, write scripts ( even before he knew what a screenplay was), and perform all the characters for his brother. Joe went on to South Torrance High School and while he wasnt the world’s best student, he did manage to have 3 short stories published in the school’s annual creative anthology. They  were mostly horror driven, in the vein of Poe or Lovecraft. It would be Joe’s first published works. One of those stories Joe would end up turning into a screenplay and short film. Joe served his country in the United States Marines for 4 years, were he wrote the very first draft of Amongst the Killing. Once he was out of the Marines Joe moved to Denver, got another short story published in a underground magazine called Harvest Moon, a sort of reader’s digest for Horror fansJoe started writing screenplays and decided he would like to try making movies. He shot his first movie, Karl’s Liquor in 2001 ;  which had one screening and one screening ever, at the awesome, world famous Mercury Cafe  in Denver, CO in August of 2001. You can still see the trailer on youtube. Joe went on to make 2 more short films, Devilwind  and aforementioned (short story turned into movie) Out of Range.  Joe at one time had a deal in place with a publishing company to publish Amongst the Killing  but didn’t want to change the principle concept and thus walked away.  Now a few years later he has started this company and decided to his first release would be Amongst the Killing .  In 2010 Joe met the love of his life, his wife Shawna. Knowing that they will have children very soon he wanted to have something to hand over to his child, should they want it. So he felt the time was now to do this.

Chapter 1

It was around three o’clock in the morning when Nicole heard her phone ring. She tried to block out the noise by throwing her pillow over her head, ignoring that niggling voice of common sense that said a phone call this late could be about something important.

A gruff masculine voice next to her said, “Nicole, get the… who the fuck could be calling… ?”

She heard a deep sigh, felt the bed shift and a warm body stretch across her back.
“Hello?” he grumbled. There was silence for a long moment, then a huff. “Yeah, hold on a minute. Nicole?” He shoved her shoulder twice. “Nicole, wake up. It’s for you.”

His next words brought her into full consciousness. “Some dude named Gabriel. Says it’s important.”

Nicole peeked out from underneath the pillow so fast Travis blinked in sleepy surprise from under his mussed black hair. She wiped a hand over her face, pushing her hair out of her eyes, and sat up on her elbows to take the phone. She was embarrassed by how anxious she must appear, which was reflected in the look Travis gave her as he handed her the receiver. What if something horrible had happened? Gabriel wasn’t known for calling her in the middle of the night for something unimportant. That’s what emails and texts were for.

“Gabe?” she blurted. “Is everything okay?”

“Hey, Nicole! I’m so sorry I’m calling this late!” he yelled. She immediately sat upright her, heart pounding in her chest. Gabriel’s voice always had that effect on her.

“No, Gabriel, it’s fine, but what’s going on? Did something bad happen?”

“No, no! Nothing like that, sweetheart,” he said in that deep, raspy voice, and the familiar term of endearment sent a rush of warmth over her skin. “It’s all good news, but I couldn’t wait to tell you till tomorrow.”

About a year and a half had gone by since that incredible, sex-filled week when she visited her sister and he caught her masturbating on his bed. In that time she’d graduated college, moved from Austin, Texas to New York to be closer to her sister Jackie, and gotten a job. But when it came to him, nothing had changed. She was still the girl who found herself getting wet at just the sound of his raspy voice, the girl who had yet to find a man that measured up to him.

They’d managed to keep in touch, even after he moved out of her sister’s place to start really pursuing a music career full time. He’d set his sights on traveling and touring, which he and his band Fool the World had really started to do just a few months before she finished her last year of college. When they could – when he and his band were playing a gig she could make, or when he was in town for a while – they would get together and see just how much their bodies were still in sync. But the reality was they were on two separate paths and a real relationship wasn’t going to work. They’d never talked about it in too much depth, since technically they were never a real couple. But they both agreed it was the right decision to keep things from getting too heavy.

That didn’t mean it hurt any less for her.

It had been months since they’d been in the same city, let alone gotten to spend time with each other. Moments like this were what she had to hold onto now instead of him.

There was commotion on the other line and she could hear him walking, the sound of wind whooshing through the phone. She started to say something but was distracted by the lamp on at the other side of the bed flooding the room with warm light. She turned around quickly to find Travis, who was truly nothing more than a friend with benefits, staring at her with those dark blue
eyes. He looked between her and the clock as if to say, Who the fuck is Gabriel? And why is he calling at three o’clock in the morning?

“Hold on a sec, Gabe, I gotta go in the other room.” Nicole threw Travis an apologetic look, covered the phone with her hand and whispered, “He’s a really good friend, I’m sorry, it won’t take long, so you can go back to sleep.”

The look on Travis’ face made her think his mind must be channeling Biz Markie’s song “Just A Friend”. Well… Gabe was just a friend. A very, very good friend with exceptional benefits.

She made sure Travis couldn’t see or hear her, then she sighed and rolled her eyes as she padded into the living room. He was sweet, fun to catch a movie or have a beer with. They had an understanding and she enjoyed spending time with him, but it never once occurred to her they could be anything but the occasional distraction to each other.

“Hey, sorry about that,” she said stifling a yawn and rubbing at her eyes.

“Did I interrupt… you know, you and the guy that picked up the phone?” She heard him clear his throat on the other end. One of his few nervous ticks.

She nibbled at her lip and spared a glance over her shoulder, as if she expected to see Travis standing there watching her. The golden lamplight from her room was shining into the hallway, but that was the only indication he was still awake and possibly listening to her.

“Um… yeah, I mean, no. We were asleep but… it’s okay. What’s going on?”

She heard silence for a moment, and then, “I’m sorry I… sorry I woke you guys up. I wasn’t even thinking straight. Typical, right? But I wanted to—”

There was the sound of loud voices cheering in the background that muffled out part of his statement and made him laugh. The sound sent an involuntary shiver through her body, as if she had recorded his laugh into the very marrow of her bones.

“Sounds like you had a great show. Are you celebrating or something?” she asked with a weary laugh. Rising into the foreground of all the commotion was the sound of Jonny Beckett’s voice, who was the lead singer, along with some girls that were giggling like giggles were going out of style.

“Yeah, we are,” he said, the excitement in his voice returning full force. “A music exec for Phantom Records saw us play again tonight. He said he was feelin’ our music and he wants to meet with us at the end of the week. Do you know what that means?!”

She couldn’t speak, her brain was having trouble functioning. Phantom was an indie label a lot of their favorite bands were on. She used to lie against him in bed after he moved out of Jackie’s, listening to the music of bands that Phantom execs had gone to see one night and plucked out of obscurity. Was he talking about a record contract, a chance to be one of those success stories?

“Are you saying…?”

“He wants to sign us, Nic! We meet him and the heads of the label this Thursday and if everything goes the way it’s supposed to with the contract—”

Even before she could speak her face was breaking into an exuberant smile. “Are you kidding me? Are you fucking kidding me!?”

“Nah, sweetheart! Fool the World is gonna have a fucking record deal!”

“Oh my God! Oh my God!!” she screamed into the phone, jumping up and down, squealing and listening to the sound of his laughter on the other end, completely oblivious to anything else in the world.

“Look, I know it’s late and all, and I’m sorry, but I couldn’t wait to tell you. Just couldn’t wait.” The soft edge in his voice, made her heartbeat stutter in her chest. “You were the first
person I thought of – well you and Jackie and Ian, but she would’ve kicked my ass if I called her this late,” he quipped with a chuckle.

She wished she could wrap her arms around him and show him just how happy she was for him. She wished she could say something more eloquent than ‘Oh my God’. She wished she could hear his voice because his lips were by her ear, instead of through the receiver of a phone. She wished she could taste his mouth, his neck, his chest, lick and nibble her way down those twin tribal tattoos on his sides…

She hated going down that line of thought. It was bad enough she still fantasized about him, but to know it wasn’t meant to be and she still felt as strongly as ever killed her. She wished she could just forget him sometimes, that Travis or someone else could be enough. But just when she started getting used to the idea that they weren’t going to be together, he would call, he would come into town, or she would listen to one of his songs and think of him. She would find herself transported back to the times they’d hooked up, and then back to that one glorious week when she’d had him all to herself, a secret tucked away. But it didn’t do any good to think about that kind of thing now. She forced herself to listen to him, to cheer him on as he talked about continuing to move on without her.

“I’m so ecstatic for you and the guys, Gabriel. You have no idea. I can’t wait till you get it down in writing so I can start bragging about how I know a bunch of rock stars. I’m going to have to tell all my friends. They’re gonna freak!”

He laughed, started to say something, and once again his words were blocked out by the background noise.

“Can’t even fucking hear myself think!” he grumbled good-naturedly. “Listen, we’re gonna be back in town in a couple days so we can get ready to meet with the label. If you’re not busy we could meet up,” he paused and again cleared his throat. “You can bring your boyfriend, unless you’ve got plans or some—”

“Oh, no, Travis isn’t my boyfriend,” she said quickly, wincing at the excitement in her voice and how she must have been loud enough for Travis to hear it. “We’re just… we’re just friends.” She wasn’t exactly sure how to explain why a male friend was lying in bed with her when he called, so she decided to hop right over that bit of awkwardness. “I’m not busy this week. I can see you whenever you get back and you can tell me everything.”

“Cool,” he said, and once again she found her body thrumming. It was rare that she got to see him, but when she did, she knew there was a good chance she would get to feel him inside of her again. “I’ll give you a call, we’ll go out and eat or something, really celebrate and catch up. Just the two of us.”

“Okay,” she managed to whisper, swallowing hard. She almost groaned at the prospect of spending an entire evening with him for the first time in months. “Congratulations, babe. I’m so, so proud of you.”

He yelled his thanks over the ruckus around him, laughing. “I’ll let you get some sleep. Night, Nicole.”

She smiled softly. “Night, Gabriel.”

She clicked the phone off, cradling it against the butterflies in her stomach and processing his voice, his great news, and the fact that in a few days she’d be able to show him just how happy she was for him. Then she heard a zipper and turned.

Travis was leaning against the doorjamb zipping up his jacket, then he reached down and grabbed his motorcycle helmet off the floor. She was going to ask him why he was leaving, if he was upset, but the look in his eyes made her not even bother. It was obvious he’d been listening to
her conversation. She didn’t blame him for not wanting to play second fiddle, for not being able to spend the night.

He was still sweet. He gave her a kiss and told her to call him whenever. But when he left she couldn’t help but feel a hollow sense of defeat. Travis was the kind of guy a girl was lucky to actually date, and here she was pining for a voice on the other end of the phone. A voice couldn’t keep her warm at night. A voice on the phone couldn’t hold her and make her feel safe and special, not in the way she wanted to feel.

But it wasn’t just anyone’s voice. It was Gabriel’s. That voice carried the memories of nights when he had kept her warm, when he’d made her feel like the sexiest and most beautiful woman in the world. She couldn’t let go of that. Not even when holding on caused her to watch a good guy’s back as he closed the door on what might have been.

Kaia Bennett is a native of New Jersey, a college graduate and U.S. Army veteran who loves music, movies, astrology, tattoos, martial arts, animals and, of course, the written word. She heard the siren call of the writer as a teenage girl, but took her sweet time answering it until she had lived and loved enough to share her work with the masses.

She is an erotic author who loves to write stories with diversity, depth, realism and viscerally hot encounters that flirt shamelessly with the taboo. A lover of all genres and a voracious reader, she aims to write stories that are transformative for her characters and readers alike.

Velvet Kisses by Addison Moore

3:AM Kisses Book 6
(Can be read as a stand alone)
ROMANTIC COMEDY
~Addison Moore~

Marley Jackson has an axe to grind with the entire male population. After having her heart brutally broken, she’s out to prove to herself, and the world, that a woman only needs one thing from a man—and it isn’t love.
Wyatt James isn’t interested in anything that resembles a commitment. He’s self-made, secure, and happy to entertain a one-night stand any day of the week—enter Marley.
Marley quickly dispels the idea that she’s anybody’s one-night stand. What Marley has in store for Wyatt is far more complex and requires a binding contract to back it.
Marley and Wyatt aren’t in it for love. Marley is looking to glean some expertise in the bedroom. Wyatt is looking to find some solace after a string of nameless faces that have rocked his bed.
But when feelings change, and that four-letter word takes ahold of both their hearts, they’re left to face the fact they might be in deeper than either of them thought possible.
Marley and Wyatt smolder beneath the sheets.
She’s eager to learn—yet, bossy as hell.
He’s eager to lay down one hard lesson after the other, yet determined to save her from herself.
Sometimes heartbreak is the greatest teacher.
Sometimes it leads you into the arms of the one you belonged with right from the start.

“Aren’t I the lucky birthday boy?” His dimples dig in tight, no smile. There’s an earnestness about him that spells out orgasm in the making, and my thighs quiver because if I’m not careful I’ll achieve the big O before we ever get started.“Actually”—I clasp onto the tie that he’s neatly paired with dark denim and chukka boots, my all time favorite—“I’m the lucky one. I win because I have you.”

He winces before his dimples dig in ten times deeper.

“Clothes off.” The smile drops from his face. Wyatt is a man who is used to being pleased, when and how he wishes, and most likely by whomever he wants.

“Yes, Professor James.” I reach back and unzip my dress, letting it drop to the floor in a celebrated thump. I hook my thumbs into the sides of my panties and slowly pull them over my curves. Wyatt’s eyes float down to my hips. His chest expands as if he’s pleased with what he sees. I let them glide off, soft as a feather and carefully step out of the fabric puddle, wobbling on my heels in the process.

God, God, God, don’t fall! I do a little dance trying to right myself and land a few inches closer to him with my see-through lace bra and heels the only foreign objects on my body. I reach back and unhook my bra, letting the girls spring out like a couple of hopped up cheerleaders anxious for the big game. It slides off without any help on my part as if it were fleeing the scene. I take a deep breath and pull my shoulders back as his gaze heats my body by at least twenty degrees. “Your turn, cowboy.”

KID REVIEW: Fierce Winds and Fiery Dragons by Nan Sweet

windsIvy and Carrie love their new classroom even if the new teacher is a little strange. When Mrs. Huffity asks for volunteers to care for an egg, Ivy doesn’t budge. She’s had a few scary dreams about that egg and wants nothing to do with it.

But when trouble comes, Ivy defends the egg. In her desire to save the baby that hatches, Ivy is tossed into the middle of an adventure. She discovers more than she ever wanted to know about fierce winds and fiery dragons.

3 Kid Fangs

This book is about  2 girls named Ivy and Carrie who love there new class even though the teacher Mrs. Huffity is a bit odd. But one day Mrs. Huffity brings in a box and says they will be taking turns taking care of the egg. She lets them look at the egg and says there is a dragon inside. She asks who will take care of the egg first. Every hand goes up except Ivy’s. Soon Ivy is taking the egg out of David’s locker because he left it at school on purpose. She didn’t believe in the gollivant that would be after the egg. Then she soon realizes with the egg in her hands that the gollivant is after her and the egg. She starts to see them. When the egg hatches she calls Carrie over to help with the dragon. Then they find themselves in the magical world.

I found the book kind of long and drawn out. I felt there was long periods of Ivy just protecting the egg. I liked when the egg hatched and Ivy had to really start fighting the gallivant.

I would recommend this book to anyone ages 7- 11 who likes dragons and magical stuff.

Brave, beautiful, and not easily controlled—even within a dictatorship—Laila Lewis has finally attained the prestige of an Emerald designation. Now only one thing is keeping her from her life’s goal of retrieving the Declaration of Independence and other priceless artifacts from the wild unknown of the Onyx Zone: the six weeks of training necessary to ensure her survival outside the city walls. But she won’t be going it alone.

After a year as a designated Emerald, rugged, sensual ex-cop Rock Rodgers is finally prepared to leave New Atlanta for good. Six weeks of training is the only thing standing between him and his next mission: to disappear into the freedom of the Onyx Zone where the long-armed rule of the Gov can’t reach him. But when the chemistry between him and Laila reaches a boiling point, with captivity just one false move away, will he have to escape on his own—or risk everything for a woman more tempting than freedom.

CONTENT WARNING: Contains explicit sexual language and content, and elements of BDSM that may be objectionable to some readers.

excerpt

The end of Rock’s first week of tutelage was only an hour away. Laila wanted to jump for joy and scream at the top of her lungs in celebration. She was being overdramatic. It hadn’t been all bad. She’d earned luscious peppermint oil massages the last three mornings in a row. She got to start the truck and actually drive it, though it was only a few feet. And as an added treat the morning before, Rock hadn’t made her change the tire anymore. On top of all that, she ran the mile without wanting to pass out afterward.

Now, she was going to take Rock down inside the big white circle on the mat. She’d been wholly unsuccessful all week, trying different approaches. But she quickly found that the opportunity to knock that arrogant wall of muscle on his ass, and success in doing so, were two entirely different things.

She’d paid close attention to the moves and tried hard to get them right during drills. She’d tried her hardest to take him down, and he just stood there, brushing her aside, relaxed.

It ticked her off. He didn’t even try to appear as if he had to defend himself. Her blood boiled with every failed attempt. She was going to kick his ass.

After a shrieking run and an unceremonious counter move that left her ass planted on the mat, she was livid. He waved her to come again as she picked herself off the floor, challenging her to take her best shot, groin or knee. She accepted the challenge…over and over again, but none of the kicks landed at their intended destination.

After falling face down and breathing in a whiff of men’s locker room for what had to be the fiftieth time, she picked herself off the floor.

He waved at her to come again with that smug look on his face.

She was going to scratch his eyes out. Then, in a second of brilliant clarity, everything clicked into place. She lunged at him the way she had dozens of times before, and as he leaned over to swipe her leg away with his forearm, she raked his face with her nails.

It hadn’t been a good hit because he’d adjusted his defense at the last minute to protect himself, but one nail hit its mark, scoring the front of his cheek.

When she picked herself off the floor and turned to meet his gaze, he smiled at her, the raised, red line on his face moving with the motion.

“Good girl. Remember, you have to fight smart. You’ll be able to tell from your opponent’s stance what he’s expecting from you. Then, you’ll give him something else in the spot that’s left exposed.”

He waved her to come at him again and took his stance. She examined his positioning and changed her strategy accordingly. As she attacked, he read her move and blocked it, knocking the air out of her lungs as she landed hard on her belly. She stayed down this time.

“I hate you.” She flattened her hands on the mat and pushed herself to standing.

“That’s okay. I’m not concerned about winning a popularity contest.”

Born an Amber,Laila Lewis has finally became an Emerald. She sets a goal of finding the Declaration of Independence and other artifacts. The only problem is she’s got to train for six weeks with Rock Rodgers, ex Amber now Emerald, who has no intention of coming back to New Atlanta after this mission. He’s going to the Onyx Zone, an wilderness where the long arm of the Gov. can’t touch him. But when he falls in love with Laila will he give up his dream of freedom for love or leave her behind and head for freedom?
I really enjoyed this book it can be read as a stand alone but it makes more sense to read the two books before. What’s not to love about a strong alpha male, intrigue, hot steamy sex and life after an apocalypse. This is definitely a series worth reading but I warn you there’s BSDM and anal sex so its only for the 18 plus crowd. 5 fangs across the board
