Working for the vampires had its perks. But nothing could have prepared Katie Palmer for what was about to happen to her. When a case file lands on her desk, Katie is told she has no choice but to take it. She is the best after all. She was to hunt down and apprehend Paul Ivers. The only issue is she does not have much to go.
Things change after a chance run in with Paul. Katie gets transferred to work for a group of creatures she had no idea existed. Dragons. Paul also throws a wrench in things when he contacts Katie. Against her better judgment, Katie agrees to meet with him.
Now Katie has a lot of problems on her hands, she is falling in love with Paul, Her new job is requiring her to look into babies being abandoned just as she was, and Paul believes that she may be a dragon herself. Not only that but she may just be Paul’s mate.
Katie is working against the clock, she needs to find a way to keep Paul out of trouble, and before she starts showing signs that she has found her fated mate. Things will not be easy.
Once everything is settled between Paul and the dragons, They must figure out why the dragon race is dying. All the answers lay in Katie’s past. She has to find her own birth parents and figure out why she was abandoned to unlock the secret.
When they narrow down the group of possible parents to four couples, they demand that Katie and Paul undergo the mating ceremony, so that they know whose daughter she is.
Detective Katlin Palmer has a perfect record her colleagues thought it was the vampire blood she took but in truth it’s her own special powers she has had since a child. The problem is she can’t seem to find Paul no matter how hard she tries.
After a close encounter Paul realizes that there might be something special about Katlin and arranges a meeting but he never expected the attraction between them or the fact that she might be his mate.
I was pleasantly surprised by this book as I am not a fan of Dragon Shifters but I will defiantly be following the series. Katlin is a strong woman who was raised in foster homes she can look after herself and isn’t easily scared. She is sassy and I loved the way she refuses to be intimidated by anyone.
Paul makes me smile he has a charm that is easy to get caught up in. He is protective and possessive when he realizes how special Katlin is. He is very supportive when she needs him and earns her trust.
The characters are well written and I was drawn in from the beginning. I really like the balance between the characters and the flow of the story is well paced. I will not give away and spoilers but I love the ending and wait to see what will happen. I will be reading other installments in the series and I will be recommending it to others.
