Invasion of the Dumb Snatchers
by Scott Erickson
The population of the most powerful nation on earth is dumb. When looking at a map of the world, 29 percent of Americans can’t identify the Pacific Ocean.
Consider the phenomenon of Donald Trump. Consider that the more stupid his statements, the higher his poll results. It seems that stupid is what a growing number of Americans want.
Stupidity is at war with intelligence. What if stupidity wins?
Something is seriously wrong in America. Growing numbers of people are embracing sustainability, efficiency, common sense, and economic sanity. The rapid spread of intelligence is ruining our country and threatening our tradition of doing everything as stupidly as possible.
Only one man knows what’s really happening. Only Miles Bennell, assistant manager at Burger King, knows that aliens are replacing our bodies with exact duplicates.
Will he save us before the aliens destroy America? Will he get Becky, the waitress at the local Hooters, to dump her idiot boyfriend Geoffrey so he can touch her boobs?
This is my first read by Scott Erickson – I have to admit, this one took me completely out of my reading zone – which is good from time to time – to stretch your reading horizons. Mr. Erikson brings us a satirical spoof of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. In this case all the dummies are being replaces by intelligent beings.
The only person who knows what is happening is Miles Bennell, he is an assistant manager at Burger King. Miles is getting by but that’s about it. He has no lofty dreams. But, when people start changing and the people around him start talking with common sense, sustanability, becoming more efficent and more economically sound. He knows the aliens are behind it, and it’s his mission to safe America.
If you are in the market for a book that will make you laugh, and make you think. How many people do you know that when they open thier mouths you think perhaps they should be allowed to procreate or the law of natural selection needs to be activated on them? Mr. Erickson’s writing will keep you involved and from time to time wish it could be possible.
