About the Book
Author: Matthew Angelo
Genre: Paranormal / Crime / Thriller
As the owner of the Midnight Agency, a private investigation company, I handle all sorts of cases that the police are unable to solve. This case was nothing different. Girls from a local club have come up missing and it is up to me, Rian MacCaren, to find them. Only problem is that the bad guy is no longer human. He is something else. That’s what happens when you sell your soul to a demon.
This is the first book in the Midnight Agency series. This series is a mystery series with a wisecracking protagonist, Rian, and his cop buddy, Axle. There isn’t any romance in this story, maybe some will pop up in future books. At first, Rian is funny. He always has a running commentary in his head. As the story gets darker and more violent, the humor seems misplaced. The world in this story has a vague knowledge of the existence of paranormal. Even the paranormal entities are not sure what all exists, just that a lot of weird things exist. Axle is a cop who is still refusing to believe even though he is surrounded by proof of paranormal creatures existing, his buddy Rian being one such creature.
>The book delves in a lot of dark subjects, torture, strippers, murder, to name a few. Rian is part angel and so are the women that are kidnapped. I didn’t understand how Rian had powers, but the women did not. The fae, Raiza, just happened to be kidnapped along with Rian. Good thing, as she fed him her power. Her kidnapping made no sense. The Contractor only wanted angels and Raiza was fae.
>The book had some basic errors, such as very stilted dialog from Axle and four instances of grammatical errors. For example, one is not ‘to warm’, one is ‘too warm’. I am taken right out of the story when a lot of grammatical errors are present.
>This book is appropriate for an adult audience. I am a reviewer for Romance authors that Rock. I am giving this set 3 hearts. This book seems like a first draft and needs more polishing to be great.
An interesting murder mystery with a comedy written in from the first perspective. I was a little confused at the first if I was reading from a male or female perspective however the author didn’t make you read long before being clear. I really like that this supernatural story didn’t have your average supernatural characters in it thus being unique. The sarcasm, witty comebacks, and inner monologue made it possible to connect with the main character. I really enjoyed this story. Based on content I would recommend a mature audience. I am an independent reviewer for Romance Authors That Rock and am giving this book 4 hearts.
