Book review – Ella Dethroned
>This is a prequel novella in the Boy and the Beast series. Ella is a type of queen that is fleeing for her life with one knight, Rathan, sworn to protect her. A prophesy states that her virgin queen status will be changing if she delivers a strange object to someone in another town. Rathan and Ella fight strange men, other knights and the elements until they find someone to help them.
>This is a very short novella. The story lines that are set up have to do with Rathan and Ella’s unborn son, who is destined to become a healer. Both Ella and Rathan are virgins. I find it amusing to think that 2 virgins can have their first time together hiding in a small space beneath the bench of a wagon. Nothing is described, only that directly after they are finished, Ella states she is pregnant.
>There is a lot of action, but this land is unusual and not a lot of time is spent explaining the way things are run or what otherworldly things exist. We do find out that Ella has an enchanted sword that she can only use to defend and not to kill. She is described as an expert swords woman, but what is the point?
>Ratham is an interesting character. He is devoted to Ella, but not sexually, until later. Their only marriage ceremony is for Ella to declare them married. This book is appropriate for a young adult (16+) audience. I am assuming the first full novel sets up the time period and setting a bit more. I am giving this prequel 4 stars. I am a reviewer for Romance Authors that a rock.
