Nightlord by Garon Whited #Review

Eric didn’t ask to be a vampire. In fact, he didn’t even believe in them. Then he hooks up with a hot babe, wakes up with a hangover, and bites his tongue with his own fangs.
Which pretty much settles the question.
Now he’s trying to hold down his day job while learning the rules of the Undead — the most important being that bloodthirsty urges and predatory instincts are a real bitch.
Upside; Eric has the beautiful Sasha to teach him the ropes, including the magic he’ll need to survive.
Downside; they’re being hunted by members of the Church of Light, who are determined to rid the world of vampires.
Then Sasha is killed, and Eric is thrust into an alternate world in his quest to avenge her death. There he becomes a Nightlord, fights a dragon with the help of his magical steed, Bronze, and upchucks a sword named Firebrand.
But things get really interesting when Eric finally finds Tobias, head of the Church of Light. Soon Eric finds himself at the center of an epic battle at the literal edge of the world in a fight to keep a terrible darkness at bay.
In other words, just another day in the life of the Nightlord.
“When you fall off the Edge of the World into hordes of demonic Things from the Outer Darkness, you really start to wonder if you haven’t made some mistakes.”
–Eric, part-time undead, expectant father, and short-term astronaut.
I read a lot of vampire books so it takes a lot to impress me but let me say this book definitely impressed me. I love the main character Eric, he’s your everyman, who on a rare night of getting drunk because his girlfriend dumps him, wakes up in a mansion, in the bedroom of a beautiful woman. Now this beautiful woman is Sasha and she a vampire, but here’s where it gets different, she’s able to go out into the sun. She believes Eric is the reincarnation of the Vampire Lord who sired her then died centuries ago. She has been watching him for years to be sure and now that she’s sure she sires Eric. Now Eric has a lot to learn about being a vampire, the biggest twist to this “vampire life ” is Eric is human, albeit enhanced, during the day and a deadly vampire after sunset. He only has avoid sunrise and sunset, when he shifts back and forth that’s when he’s most vulnerable. Eric decides to accept what’s happened to him and Sasha starts to teach him what it’s all about to be a vampire. He learns he has lots of talents, he isn’t just a vampire he’s a vampire that can control magic, no rituals, no diagrams etc just his mind. He also has a magic sword called Firebrand. He also finds out that his kind is being hunted by a group called The Fist of God and when they kill Sasha he decides to go after them. He creates a spell to find them and ends up in an alternate world where it’s basically midevil times. He saves a woman and a metal fire breathing horse he names Bronze who end up with him on his travels to destroy the leader of the Church of Light who runs the Fist of God.
What the blurb says leads you to believe this is just your run of the mill vampire novel, it’s way more than that, there’s magic and fantasy along with Eric after revenge. I never got bored with this fun story, Eric isn’t you’re typical brooding evil vampire , he’s actually pretty funny and friendly unless you want to kill him them look out!! Don’t let the almost 700 pages or the blurb deter you from snatching this awesome, some times funny vampire novel. It ended on somewhat of a cliff hanger so I definitely have to read book two but I’d read it anyhow I’ve fallen in love with the characters and want to see where Eric goes next. Wish I could give it more than a 5 it deserves a 10.
