BLURB:

Kassandra is a single, independent woman who prides herself on her own success. But when she’s asked by her best friend Laura to be the Maid of Honor in her wedding, Kassandra finds herself questioning her lifestyle. Helping Laura plan the wedding is no problem—she’s done it before for all their other friends. The whole event kicks off with the worst kind of surprise when Kassandra discovers who her friend’s fiancé really is, and she’s torn between supporting Laura’s future happiness and hiding the deeply buried, intimate past she shares with the groom-to-be. Struggling to be the bigger person and do all the hard work on her own, Kassandra finds surprising comfort in Josh, the best man in the wedding and someone she’s been avoiding for years. He’s charming, thoughtful, handsome, and the worst kind of womanizer, but she just can’t seem to stay away. All the while, Kassandra can’t help wondering if the wedding could be any more cliché—until she finds unexpected ways to change things up a bit.

Excerpt:

From Chapter 4

This can’t be happening.

The person sitting at our table was definitely someone I knew. Someone I actually had been avoiding for quite some time.

“Well, well. Good morning, babe,” the beautiful blond said to me.

I knew this guy. I’d constantly met him at bars and pubs around the city. He was always well accompanied by attractive ladies, but that didn’t stop him from hitting on me. Persistently, he’d tried for the past couple years to get my number and into my panties.

This beautiful man and I had a history…well, not really. We had a history of not having a history. He was an artfully known womanizer in the circles we frequented. Knowing exactly what I’d be getting myself into if I ever decided to tap that drop-dead gorgeous body of his, I had no choice but to reject him over and over again.

One drunken night I almost caved in.

Laura couldn’t be marrying this man.

“Oh, God. Not you. You’re a man whore!”

He stood as soon as the statement escaped my lips. He didn’t look offended. I guess he was used to my rejections by now. “Nice to see you, too,” the handsome man said. “I like knowing that you miss me.”

“Miss you? You wish! I can’t believe you’re marrying my best friend.” And I really didn’t.

“No offense, babe, but I’m not the one marrying Laura. I’m Ed’s friend. Name’s Josh, remember?”

Oh, right. Josh. For a moment there, I thought I had to talk Laura into canceling the wedding.

review

Kassandra is a smart, beautiful and loyal woman so when her friend calls to say she’s getting married there is only one thing to do, help. There is only one problem Kassandra knows the groom a little too well and does not have fond memories. Finding herself in a difficult situation she is torn as to what to do but maybe the best man can help take her mind off it.
Josh is a lover of women and enjoys trying new things. He has had a fair share of relationships and his reputation isn’t the best. Under his wild womanizing ways though is a charming thoughtful man who might just be able to get past the walls Kassandra has built around herself.
When a secret is revealed can Kassandra hold on to the man she loves or will she push him away?
Kassandra has spent years guarding her heart because of the actions of a past boyfriend and herself have left her scared. I was a little disappointed that Kassandra’s friend couldn’t sympathize a little more with her. It’s obvious that she has been left vulnerable and unsure of herself.
Josh has had an interesting past but seems devoted to their relationship and trying to understand Kassandra. He tries not to push her to hard but needs some give and take. Although Kassandra can seem a little judgemental I feel she has her reasons and she does try to understand.
There are some hot moments between Kassandra and Josh that were well written and I was glad there was an HEA. The characters whether you love or hate them are well written and engage the reader. I did enjoy the speech that Kassandra gives it was one of my favorite parts.
This is a great quick read with a decent plot and well written characters. I would recommend it to a lover of contemporary romance and it’s a great start to a new series.

Excerpt #1

So this was the new head shepherd his pa had hired? Billy didn’t know much about it other than what he’d overheard between his parents at night while he was supposed to be reading The Word before bed. He couldn’t help it. He liked sneaking down the stairs to listen to his parents talk when they thought no one was listening. Something about the love between them made Billy want to stick close.

From what he’d heard and could understand of their conversations, his pa wanted to expand the ranch into sheep and wool but didn’t know how to do it. He’d sent advertisements back east to the big cities, looking for a man who knew the industry and could come live on their ranch to manage the lambing and shearing and rotating—moving the herd from one parcel of land to another without losing a single one.

Apparently, these newcomers were the ones his pa had picked for the job. Billy didn’t know, quite yet, what he thought of the whole thing.

Not that it really mattered. Billy was set on growing up to be the best horse breeder in the state. He didn’t care much for smelly old sheep. He’d stick to the stable and barn, and leave Mr. MacAdams and Mr. Pallo to their sheep.

Billy’s pa turned to him and motioned for him to come forward. Billy complied with only a little warmth rising in his cheeks.

“Mr. MacAdams, this is my son, Willem.”

Pa patted Billy on his shoulders and squeezed one just enough to make him clear his throat and say, “Good afternoon, sir. Nice to meet you.” Just as his mother had taught him.

Mr. MacAdams grinned down at him. “What a polite young man ye are. Nice to me ye.”

Billy’s mother stepped forward. “Good afternoon. Welcome to Dry Bayou Ranch. I’m Linda Ducharme and we’re very pleased to have you here.”

His mother’s voice was soft, friendly, and cultured. She was a fine lady, much too fine for all the dust now coating her skirts. Pa said he’d found her in a catalog and she’d moved west to marry him. He said he was a lucky man, especially since she hadn’t turned tail and run at the first sight of the shack he’d lived in back then.

Mr. MacAdams turned around and helped the woman from the wagon. She strutted toward the porch, put out her hand, and smiled. Pa took it and shook it, a little less vigorously than he did the man’s.

“I’m Moira MacAdams—,” she called into the back of the wagon. “Get down here, bairn, and say hello.”

Billy didn’t know what to make of the bundle of rags and wild, frizzy, red hair that appeared. He stood, staring at the little girl who seemed more hair than girl. She looked a few years younger than his seven years, but he thought maybe her size threw him off. Her small face was covered with freckles, her brown eyes were filled with curiosity and something else he couldn’t name.

She bounced from foot-to-foot, then stuck out her hand. He blinked down at it, surprised and a little uncertain what to do.

“Go ‘head, take it, it won’t bite,” she chirped. Her voice was like sugar on syrup and he found he didn’t know what to say back. So, he stepped forward and gripped her hand without saying a word.

“Name’s Raychelle, but you can call me Ray, account of the fact that I don’t like Raychelle ‘cause it sounds too uppity.”

Billy couldn’t help the smile that spread across his face.

He liked her.

He tightened his grip on her hand. “He-hello, Ray, I’m Billy.”

Her smile brightened and he felt the light of it right down into his boots. In that moment, he wondered if smelly old sheep weren’t all that bad.

She must’ve read his thoughts because a glint of excitement filled her eyes and Billy could only blink in awe.

“Billy, do you know how to catch a frog?”

Excerpt #2

“Billy Ducharme, you get your good-fer-nothin’ hide down here this instant!” Ray stopped pacing long enough to yell up at the hay loft from outside the large, red barn. “You got to be done with your chores by now, it’s near midday!”

She and Billy were supposed to head down to Clipper’s Creek for the fishing derby and she hated to be late. She didn’t want to miss out on the prize for the biggest trout. She’d won it three years running and she’d be pickled if she lost this year.

Where is that man? She stood on her tiptoes and rocked back onto her heels, all while balancing her armload of fishing gear.

She’d been looking forward to this day for near six months. She even made sure she woke up a few hours before her usual time in order to get a head start on her daily chores; tending the two ewes who were lambing, mending the fence that was struck by lightning two nights ago, and checking with the gauchos to recount the heads to make sure none of the sheep were missing.

Thankfully, all were accounted for, which meant she didn’t have to go hunting for a wayward ewe—that could’ve taken all day. She didn’t have all day, not if she wanted to get to the derby.

Now, to get Billy moving so they could get going.

The whinny of a horse caught her attention and she stopped moving and stared at the tall, wide doorway that led to the interior of the barn. A bead of sweat slid down her forehead, over the bridge of her nose, and dripped off the end.

“Come on, you’re movin’ slower than molasses and Lord knows I can’t stand the stuff!” She juggled the tackle and poles in her arms and heaved a heavy sigh.

Her sigh of frustration turned to a sigh of appreciation when Billy came into view from around the barn door. He’d pulled his hat from his head and was brushing the straw from it. Ray had to stop herself from staring like a ninny at his rich, chestnut hair, dark brows, and smooth, tanned face.

He was tall, lean, walked like a man who knew his business, and had a face she wouldn’t throw a dead frog at…unless he was cracking a joke about her.

Ray didn’t know when, exactly, her thoughts about Billy Ducharme turned from sweet and annoying little sister-like to mushy and silly and… Well, not sweet nor sisterly. But she wasn’t going to let her sudden mental ailment mess up her chance to win the derby.

“There you are. Shake a leg so we can get to the creek before they call the last round.”

Her urgent tone didn’t get him to move any faster. He actually slowed down, slapped his hat back on his head, and gave her a big, too-handsome smile.

She hated it when he smiled like that. She fought to ignore the melting sensation in the pit of her stomach and growled at him. “Don’t you dare, Willem!” She only ever used his full Christian name when she was annoyed at him.

He only smiled bigger and walked slower.

She narrowed her eyes and bit her lip to keep from yelling at him again—it wouldn’t be proper to yell the things she wanted to say to Billy at this moment.

By the time he stood before her, looking down into her overwarm face with a mischievous grin and glimmering blue eyes, she was fuming—‘bout ready to toss the fishing poles on the ground and wallop him.

“Whoa there, Ray. You’ve got to learn patience one of these days or you’re liable to get so worked up you’ll have a fit.” Ray held her breath. “Now, if you had a fit and fell to the ground like a startled heifer, I’d have to sell tickets. Lots of folks ‘round here would pay good money to see that.” He laughed, his deep chuckle breaking through the cloud in her head.

“Why you—” she reached out to slap his arm, but dropped her armload of fishing supplies, instead. “Ugh!” she called out in frustration, staring down at the now scattered and tangled lines, poles, and bobbers.

Chuckling louder, Billy stepped closer. Ray stopped moving, thinking, breathing—he was much too close for comfort.

I’m an independent reviewer for Romance Authors That Rock.
What a find. I enjoyed this little jem of a story. Here we have best friends growing up in the mid 1800’s. Billy’s the ranch owners son. Tilly is the shepherds daughter. Billy’s parents have ordered him a mail-order bride without his knowledge. Billy is not ready to get married but with Rebecca around he’s starting to look at Tilly differently. She’s his best friend but can she be more? Does she think of him like that? And why has it taken this to see what has been in front of him all along?

I loved this book. If you are looking for a book with heart. Look no farther. Great lunch time read. This is the first book I have read by this author. Being that this is the first book in the series I am looking forward to reading the next book.

In The Spotlight Excerpt © Shona Husk 2016

Four hours later the alarm went off. There was an arm wrapped around him and a body pressed against him. Pierce hadn’t expected to sleep, but he must have crashed. Now he didn’t want to move. He couldn’t call in sick. He had to turn up and prove he was sick to get the day off, which didn’t achieve anything. He closed his eyes again and tried not to enjoy the sensation of waking up with someone too much.

‘Whose dumb idea was it to get up early?’ Ripley rolled over and silenced the alarm.

‘Yours.’ Pierce sighed. An extra hour of sleep would’ve been nice.

‘Mmm. Yes.’ Ripley moved closer, pressing his body against Pierce’s back. He placed a kiss between his shoulder blades. ‘I didn’t want you to be running out the door without leaving me a number or a glass slipper or something.’

He really wanted his number? ‘I’ll give you my number.’

‘Good.’ His hand skimmed lower.

Pierce was fully awake and it took Ripley about three seconds to discover that.

‘Why couldn’t you work in the city …’ his hand was moving and there was a nice hardness pressing against Pierce’s ass.

He rolled over to face the dancer, not wanting to accidentally give him the wrong idea.

‘What time do you start?’

‘Ten-ish with class, then full rehearsal and individual coaching … then I get a few hours off before performing. I’m going back to sleep when you leave.’

Ripley would be dancing all day, it was no wonder he looked so good with his clothes off. ‘I would be too. What’s the show?’

‘Beastly … I am the beast.’

Pierce laughed.

Ripley pushed him onto his back and straddled him. ‘I can be horrible.’

‘This doesn’t feel horrible.’

‘Let me expand your repertoire beyond quick and dirty. Have a fling with me.’ His lips were dangerously close.

It was hard to think. He was going to get third-degree burns. He was going to end up with scars. But Ripley was offering him everything he wanted. And in three weeks’ time he was going to going through withdrawal and wanting to die.

At least he would’ve lived first.

review

This is a great read from a new author. It’s a suspense filled novel with more twists and turns than a mountain road.
The story is about two inhabited planets revolving around each other but they’re at very different stages in their development. Zalk is an astronomer who has psychic abilities which in his world isn’t all that unusual, but his are a little different. When he makes the claim that there’s life on the other planet he’s basically exiled thanks to the Church, their form of government who’s always said only their planet holds life. Slowly his theory is proven correct and he’s brought back into the fold. Now he’s gotten more  theories but should he keep them to his self or risk it all to tell the truth.
With an interesting story line and well developed characters this novel kept me reading into the wee hours to finish. For a new author I was quite impressed with this story. Now I’ll be impatiently waiting for book 2,  I have to know how the story plays out. So if you’re into mystery, sci-fi and adventure don’t hesitate to grab this great read right now you won’t be disappointed I know I sure wasn’t.

She says “y’all,” “fixin’ to,” and should you deserve it, will “bless your heart.” She’s the proud mother three hyperactive and occasionally adorable children, and the wife of a husband who tolerates her chaotic writer’s cave.
Although reading is her passion, she can usually be found watching true crime shows and crafting inspiration for twisted new tales. Cora admits to being a horrible cook, an even worse baker, and believes she’s more dangerous with a hot glue gun than any weapon on earth. Oh, and she and autocorrect are mortal enemies.

The coiled body behind me tensed, ready to detonate. Whoever defended me could hold his own, but I could still take everybody out with one flick of the wrist. Chivalry felt warm and fuzzy but I learned a long time ago that one hundred and fifty volts felt electric and twitchy.
Turning my chin to the side, I whispered on an exhale, “It’s fine, I’ve got this.”
A low laugh against my neck curled my toes.
“You so don’t got this.” His chest rumbled as a strong hand ran skilled fingers around my hair. I tilted my chin, watching his eyes harden. “You’re up my ass, shit-for-brains. Don’t ever touch what’s mine.” He shifted his lips against my ear. “Right, baby?”
One suitor tested my patience, but two pushed my limit. I opened my mouth to tell him off when he stole the moment and pressed his lips against mine. Resisting, I murmured veiled threats as he pulled me toward him. The impromptu kiss dissolved into failed waves of aggression, and I inexplicably responded to him. Before I knew it, I’d wrapped my arms around his neck.
After a few heartbeats of kissing a complete stranger, I finally regained what dignity I had left, shoved his chest, and faced him with fire blazing in my eyes. He snickered and waved as my aggressor stalked off. Shooting him a death glare, I reached for my drink. After scanning for witnesses, I brought it to my lips and drained it.
“Thirsty?” He smirked.
“What the hell was that?”
He snatched the drink out of my hands, giving me a wink before tipping it back for the last drop. “You weren’t exactly pushing me away. Besides, I just saved your ass. Heath Vaughn was inches from having a hand up that thing you call a dress.”
“I didn’t ask for your help!” I bit back. “I don’t even know who the hell you—wait, who?”
“Somebody had to step in or you’d have spent the night in jail with that concealed, illegal shit in your purse. You’re telling me you didn’t know that was Vaughn? Maybe because we haven’t time-warped back to his 1995 five minutes of fame.” He walked past me with a smirk plastered across his face.
Struggling to catch up with him, I grabbed his shoulder in disbelief. “That’s a joke, right?”
“Afraid not. Vaughn in the flesh, and apparently in the sauce too. Why do you care so much what he thinks?” He eyed me curiously, his jade-green eyes knocking me breathless.
Finally allowing myself a full look at him, I quickly averted my eyes before he could see my racing pulse reflected in them. Chaotic chocolate spiked hair pointed in every direction and hinted at a carefully constructed morning-after look. A small silver earring caught flashes of light in the darkness and tattoos decorated each uncovered arm.
Remembering to breathe became a chore.
“Because I’m screwed!” I shouted, frantically waving my phone. “My boss is already pissed at me, and I was supposed to meet Vaughn here for an interview, and—why am I telling you this?”
“Calm down.” He grinned, revealing a deep dimple in his left cheek. “Look, the dude’s so far tanked he won’t remember he was here, much less you were. Give me your phone.”
“I’m not giving you my phone. I don’t even know you.”
Rolling his eyes, he snatched my phone out of my hands. “Didn’t stop you from making out with me, did it?” He scanned the email I’d been checking all night. Typing furiously, his lips curved upward and he handed it back. “All fixed.”
“What did you do?” Thankfully, previous defense training taught me to never label emails with personal information. In the darkness, he’d never scroll back far enough to know my name.
“Why must you question brilliance?” he countered with a sigh. “You sent him an email concerned for his safety since he never showed for your interview. You waited but had to leave because you actually work for a living. You’d love to reschedule since you’re such a huge fan and were disappointed at the missed opportunity to hear all about his crap-ass reality show, since I assume that’s all he would’ve wanted to talk about.”
I could’ve kissed him—if I hadn’t already.
“You’re an evil genius.”
“So I’ve been told.”

STOLEN KISSES
(3:AM Kisses book 11)
*A SEXY STANDALONE SERIES*

NEW YORK TIMES and USA TODAY bestselling author, Addison Moore—
Cosmopolitan Magazine calls Addison’s books, “…easy, frothy fun!”

blurb

Tall, tatted, and drop dead gorgeous? Grant Jones is sex on a stick —which explains why every female at Whitney Briggs University gravitates in his direction. Every girl wants to bed him, and every guy wants to be him. Grant is the whole package, and I cannot wait to do a little unwrapping.

Ava is the most beautiful girl I have ever laid eyes on. But I’ve tried relationships, and they don’t work out for me. The truth is, I’ve never let the deep wound of losing my sister, Steph, heal properly. I’m taking a break from relationships to mend my heart the right way.

But Ava isn’t giving up. She’s sweet, and fun, and that soul melting smile of hers gets me every time. Maybe letting Ava in will be far more healing than trying to do this on my own. Stephanie would want me to be happy. I know she would.

And just as soon as a ray of happiness enters my world, I’m faced with the crushing truth about who Ava really is. Instead of healing, I’ve managed to split my heart wide open. The devastating truth is, Ava and I were never meant to be in the same room—let alone spend a lifetime together. Unless another twist of fate intervenes, our time together will never amount to more than a few Stolen Kisses.
