The Panther’s Legacy is part of the world A Spellbound Consortium, but may be read as a standalone story. 36,000 words. Adult content.
As a self-professed adventurer, Dahlia has visited hundreds of exotic locations during her decades as a vampire, but nothing brings her the peace she finds in the Amazon rainforest — until she meets Felipe, a werejaguar from a local tribe. His people are in trouble, and as their future leader, it’s his job to root out danger.
But he needs Dahlia’s help if he’s to save his village from the predators stalking them. Vampires and werejaguars are natural enemies, thrusting Felipe into the most difficult decision of his life. Torn between duty and desire, he’ll have to go against years of tradition and trust his instincts to face the danger threatening his people… before the sinister presence in the rainforest consumes them all
Felipe and his ancient tribe live deep in the rain forest and have no contact to the outside modern world. He’s intrigued and on guard when he comes upon Dahlia, an ancient vampire, traveling to learn of ancient cultures. Vampires have always caused harm to his people, but Felipe soon learns that Dahlia is different from everything that he has known. I’m torn on my thoughts on this book. What the author does well, is give wonderfully descriptive scenes and makes you feel as though you are there. But I felt that the story was lacking in flow, character development and scene development. I felt that the budding romance between Felipe and Dahlia could have been covered more. Also, the prologue covers that this book is set in an alternate universe, but very little information or enough back history was given to explain what was going on clearly. There was also characters introduced that I had to wonder what their purpose in the story was. I rate this story 3.5 hearts.
