**Book One of the 2016 Rainbow Award winning poly romance series**
Carivel has a secret. It could save her village, but it will also destroy her life.
She was born female, but she has been secretly living as a boy for years in her adoptive village of Draebard, doing a job the elders insist can only be done by a male. The last thing she needs is to fall for not one, but two unattainable men—a fierce warrior and a reluctant wolf-shifter with a horrific past. Now, the Alyrion Empire is poised to invade, and Carivel must choose whether to keep her secret or reveal it—not only to the men she loves, but also to the powerful female ruler whose army could help protect Draebard during the coming war.
Perfect for open-minded fans of ménage and reverse harem romance, The Horse Mistress: Book 1 by USA Today bestselling author R. A. Steffan combines detailed world-building, and a heartfelt romance between three noble, damaged people who have no one to turn to but each other.
Author’s note: This book contains sex. The sex is not vanilla. Some of it is between two men who love each other. If any of those three facts made you go “Eww,” please do the author a solid and don’t download this book.
Carivel is a young man who works as one of the assistants to the Horse Master of the village of Draebard…or so it would seem. The village is attacked in the night by the forces of the Alyrion Empire, and the young animal handler is soon placed in charge and sent on a mission. Accompanied by Andoc, the First Warrior and Senovo, a young priest…he is to go to the nearby village of the Mereni to seek an alliance. The trio soon find themselves in a growing relationship as secrets are revealed and their resolve tested on this journey, but even as they find strength in each other they must also find a way to be themselves on the island, and prepare for the threat from the mainland.
R.A Steffan creates an interesting and entertaining tale of fantasy and unconventional romance in this short work. The type of romance and sexual interactions make this work likely to appeal to a limited audience as it includes issues of sexuality, a strong same-sex relationship and themes of BDSM as well. That said, the world the author creates is one that has fantasy elements but isn’t so far removed that readers will feel lost. Dialogue between the main characters shines, and characters are distinct. The story moves at a reasonable rate, taking some time to set the story up but moving well past that necessity. In short, the writing is skilled and the story caught my attention.
I don’t really have many complaints or criticisms at all, which for me is unusual but welcome. Personally, I didn’t have any problems accepting the scenario, but others might not find the setup to their liking ore find it plausible. Ultimately my main “complaint” is that it ended too soon…not that it ended at a bad spot, or with a cliffhanger but I simply wanted more. That’s the highest praise I can give, and I say it gladly.

A reluctant new Lord of Night. His vulnerable human queen. If they can’t change five thousand years of history now, it will change them. Forever.
Fate has cast vampire Dominic Marchant and the human love of his life, Cassidy Chandler, into roles they never imagined. Thanks to his mad sire, he is now the Lord of Night, and Cassidy, with her unique ability to merge her mind with his, has become the incongruous mortal queen of his immortal kingdom. Even as he dreams of seeing the sun again and she can’t imagine becoming a vampire, they vow to reshape their domain into a world where vampires feed on love rather than fear and leave their prey swooning instead of dead.
But not all their subjects are pleased with the change in leadership. A powerful ancient vampire and his cadre of followers serve Dominic his greatest challenge yet just when reclaiming the day looks like a real possibility. Soon friends turn up in ashes, and Cassidy and his human family become targets in a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse that leads them and their unlikely, vampire-hunting allies deep into the wilds of the Canadian Rockies—and straight into their worst nightmares.
With their lives and the very existence of the world of night hanging in the balance, Dominic and Cassidy must decide whether to chase an impossible dream or finally embrace their dark destiny.
The perfect finale. The characters I fell in love with from the first book are still growing and adapting to their new destinies together. The new characters are interesting and well-developed additions to the complicated weave of the storyline. I have thoroughly enjoyed this series and will eagerly await any other books by this author!
As an independent reviewer for Romance Authors that Rock, I gave this one the full five hearts beating frantically. Even though there was no ugly crying involved, there are definitely tear-filled moments. An awesome series!

The perfect timing of a fairy tale is tied to its tragedy…
Journalist, Meadow Graham, is invited to interview death row inmate, Vincent Mercier. Given three days to hear his sordid confession, Meadow seeks to learn why a wealthy hotel owner killed four people, including her twin sister.
Sensually exotic and enigmatic, Vincent details his deception while bragging about the amusement he took in manipulating Meadow’s sister.
Their interview is a battle of wills.
His story is a twisted web of coercion and lies.
And the tragedy is too perfect to be real.
Will Meadow discover all of Vincent’s secrets while she fights to protect her own?
I’ve never read anything from Lily White before when I saw this book come up and read the little description and I was intrigued. I never imagined falling so hard for a book that it kept me at night wondering what the heck did I get myself into and where can it go from there, all in a good way. It made my heart pound, my eyes water, and my brain go pow!
This is a story of Meadow, needing answers from the only person that can answer them, Vincent. Vincent does have much time to tell his story, so hold on tight you’re in for a ride of your life.
Amazing story, fantastic writing, incredible characters, definitely one of my favorites. Going on my top 10 shelf!

Luce Potter lives by a code of honor. Push her and she shoves back, harder. There’s only one problem: Luce has just found out that revenge is a knife that cuts both ways. Now that her lover Brooke has survived the attack on her life, Luce has only one thing on her mind, and his name is Frank. Unfortunately, someone walks into her life that she didn’t see coming.
Brooke Erickson has survived an attack so brutal it’s left a permanent scar on her soul. All she wants to do now is go home and finish recuperating with her lover, Luce Potter, by her side. An unexpected event puts Brooke at the head of the Yakuza family. Can she command the respect necessary to lead it through the crisis?
Luce and Brooke’s worlds are upending. Can each do what’s necessary to survive and return to a new normal?
Yakazuta Luce has been kidnapped and is being held prisoner by the Russian mob. This, after they attempted to kill her girlfriend Brooke and Luce in turn, kidnapped the leader’s wife and they want her back. While Luce is missing Brooke must step up and make some difficult decisions to keep Luce’s organization in place. This is I believe the third book in this series and I’ve not really read a lot about Japanese organized crime, maybe if I had started from the beginning or knew more about Japanese culture I would have enjoyed it more, my biggest problem though was I felt that the two main characters Luce and Brooke were incongruent from scene to scene. I would imagine being a Yakazuta, you’d have to be somewhat of a bad ass, but I didn’t find Luce to be. On the flip side, Brooke was portrayed to be a good girl out of her element, and she had more bad ass moments. There were also some editing issues that detracted from the story. I rate this book 3.5 hearts.

Ellis Logan’s new YA Fantasy series, Inner Origins, is action-packed with magic and romance. The books combine fairies, Celtic/Norse mythology, and hollow earth theory to create an adventure you’ll never forget.
I totally loved the old legends in this story. But not something too heavy, but a wonderful change from what I normally read. Yes, its a young adult book with teen drama, but enough that it’s a great read for any adult. I did like how the author wrote the book. She grabbed me enough to hold on and keep them pages turning. The book definitely intrigued me and I am looking forward to reading more. I gave this a four star read and looking up the next in the series.

Raz is the 10th book released in the Clan Legacy Series. It is 30,000 words. A HEA guaranteed and can easily be read as a standalone. This new read will leave you feeling sexy and satisfied!
This read like a novice writer wrote it. The creativity and imagination was full force but the writing fell short. It didn’t really draw you in with the way it was written. The relationship between our two main characters could have used more passion or chemistry to really make you feel the burn for each other. The twist was really cool and made the story more emotional. This story had a depth that touched your heart. There were minor grammatical and spelling errors. Based on content this book is 3.5 Hearts and is for an mature audience. I’m an independent reviewer for Romance Authors That Rock.
