Review for AWAKE (Divine Hunter #1) by L.J. Sealey

A Divine Hunter Novel

Synopsis:

Michael Warden used to live a normal life. A successful entrepreneur he had everything until his life got taken away from him–Literally. Now he is trapped in a world that shouldn’t exist, fighting things that should only exist in nightmares in a quest to find out the truth about what happened to him.

Lacy Holloway is finally content in the little town of Oakland, Garrett Co. Working at the local university, she has finally allowed herself to move on from the one thing that had haunted her past. Aside from an unsettling string of suicides at her place of work, Lacy is happy. Then a new colleague enters her life. Michael is handsome, smart and their friendship is instant…Easy.

That is, until another student attempts to take her own life and Lacy is hurled into a world of nightmares which she soon discovers Michael is already a part of. As they are forced to face demons, both the supernatural and the emotional kind, they also have to face the realisation that they are both beginning to feel things for each other that neither of them expected, least of all Michael. As well as trying not to fall too deeply for the woman who has captivated him, he is shocked to discover things about his very existence that could change both their lives and the world as they know it.

EXCERPT:
“Jesus, Evo. You been juicin’ up since I last saw you?” Michael raised his eyebrows, looking his friend’s muscular frame up and
down.
Evo laughed. “Nah. Wouldn’t put that
shit in my veins. I spend most of my spare time training in the gym now. It
keeps me stimulated.”
Since he was nearly killed in an
alleyway last December, Evo had dedicated his life to finding and logging information on every supernatural being in existence. He was a hunter like Michael now, but much more ruthless. It was more like a sport to him and he enjoyed it way too much for Michael’s liking. The guy couldn’t get enough of killing monsters. But his obsession had taken him to places even Michael knew nothing about.
Realising how good he was at hunting, Evo had also become a
bounty hunter; his clients being mainly of the dead kind. He was lethal and had carved out quite a reputation for himself amongst the underworld.
Michael didn’t always approve of the
clients he sometimes worked for−after all, who can trust a demon, right?−but it was Evo’s business. It certainly was a far cry from the dodgy dealings he used to do when he was a no-good conman who often ended up in all kinds of trouble.
Besides, his best friend working for
the creatures of the underworld had its advantages: Evo had plenty of contacts; he was trusted. He’d tried to use those contacts to his advantage over the last few months to try and get information that could help Michael. But even though he’d come across a few names that he thought could have been leads, they’d led to nothing.“Come on. My place is on the other side of the campus.” Michael said as he jumped in the passenger’s side of the SUV. When Evo had gotten back behind the wheel Michael paused. He might as well just come out with it. “Hey, while you’re here. . . can you please try to remember that, right now, this is my place of work? If you could behave yourself. . . that would be great.”

Review for Awake (Divine Hunter #1)

I received this book from the author and Paranormal Romance and Authors That Rock for my honest review. Let me introduce you to Michael. He knows he’s dead, but not how or why. All he knows is he was in hell, but somehow escaped. He has made it his mission to find out what happened to him and hunt as many demons as he can along the way. Hearing about a college where there have been an unusual amount of suicides, he manages to get a job as a substitute professor. In comes Lacy who works in the same building. Lacy has had her share of misery and tends to keep to herself. More suicides occur as Michael tries to figure out what is behind it all. As he gets closer to figuring it out, Lacy gets caught in the middle of something much bigger than anything she could have imagined.

This story was pretty slow for me for the first quarter of the book, but then it really picked up and I couldn’t put it down! I really liked that Michael was the main character and about what he was, even though we don’t find out until almost the end. The romance between Michael and Lacy was a nice and slow build up, not the love at first sight, ‘Bam’. Though I don’t mind that either, it fit perfectly in this book. There is a lot that goes on in this book and I don’t want to give any spoilers away, but it does end in a cliffhanger. Yes I know, yucky; but this is the first book in the series and it will have you hooked. Even though I am eagerly awaiting the next book, I can only give this one 4 Fangs just because it was so slow in the beginning, (I am so glad I stuck with it!) There are love scenes so mature audiences only!

Review of Bleeding Shame by Nora Black

Bleeding Shame by Nora Black

Bleeding Shame

Review:

This is a very interesting story that involves a lot of themes. There is a murder of a “call girl” who is also a biochemist working on a cure for cancer. Her murderer is then found dead and everything doesn’t add up for Detective Frankie Harlow. He is even more convinced when first his partner is murdered then his family comes under attack. This book is suspenseful with enough twists and turns to keep you guessing to the end.The characters are well written and suffer the same conflicts as you and I . I really like Frankie, he is very human, and I hope to see more of him in more books. I give this book a 4 fang review and look forward to more from this author.

Book Blurb:

Has a world altering invention become temptation for murder?

A vicious killer, an improbable story, and a shattering scientific discovery, mingle to create a cocktail of deceptive intrigue.

A bright young woman’s death has been framed to look like an act of rage during a call-girl rendezvous. A tired, disillusioned cop, her only hope of redemption. Layer upon layer unfold to reveal a conniving conspiracy of global proportions; a conjuring of convoluted wicked twists.

Stacey Cornish has been murdered, and her killer has done very little to hide his identity. When his body washes up on the bank of a local river, Detective Frankie Harlow is unconvinced that the man committed suicide. However, when his family come under-fire in a series of vicious attacks aimed at dissuading further interest, Frankie knows that there is more to the murder than first meets the eye. Stacey was a biochemist working on a cure for cancer, perhaps her death had something to do with her research rather than the frame-of-facts posed by the killers.

Bleeding Shame is a compelling story that will grab you at the start, pull you along at a breathtaking pace, and shock you senseless with the questions it poses, and the answers it finds. Heart-wrenching, scary and sometimes humorous, it never fails to impress.

Review – Wild Hyacinth by Nola Sarina and Emily Faith

wildhyacinth

Description:

Publication Date: November 4, 2013

A deadly lover. His perfect mate. Asher is everything Aria’s never dared to imagine: sexy, confident, and rich. But if she convinces him to take her to his bed . . . her first time may be her last.

Incubus Asher Chain seduces every woman he meets whether he wants to or not, and refuses to let anyone grow close to him. Until the alluring, tattooed waitress Aria Hyacinthe admits she’s been living in her car. Enthralled by her unusual beauty – and terrified he’ll succumb to his deadly, incubus needs – Asher offers her a place to stay.

Living in Asher’s loft above his gym, Aria’s desire for his body is growing more urgent with every touch. Used to being the backward, shy one, in his presence she becomes fierce, captivating, and breaks down Asher’s walls against all his attempts to keep his distance. She has no clue that if he gives in to her passionate pleas, she won’t survive the night, just like all the other women who have fallen victim to his charms.

But the deeper Asher and Aria fall in love, the harder he must fight the incubus in his soul, demanding her life.

Sensuality Level: Spicy

Review:

By Bonnie (Admin)

Wild Hyacinth was such an amazing read for me. I started it mid-morning and finished it by dinner time. Initially we meet Asher (hot name by the way) who is an incubus. He is living a life that he wishes on no other human. He was the lucky twin, or unlucky to be cursed with this. At a time in his life when he should of been thinking of graduating high school, moving on to college, enjoying his high school sweetheart, he can’t as he has sucked the life right out of her, Literally. Move ahead several years and he has managed to control his needs to about every six months, but can never have a meaningful relationship, never more than a one night stand.

Next we meet Aria, bold and unable to censor her thoughts before they come tumbling out of her mouth. The physical description leaves nothing to the imagination and I love that like her personality she has hair to match, black with blue bangs. She is running from a past that she won’t escape, not because she cannot overcome it, but because she really does not know the truth of it. She is living out of her car, looking for a one night stand. Across the bar is none other than Asher.

Now enough of the spoilers, I have really only given you a little bit. I am a sucker for a good chase and the build up to the intimate encounter. I love that Nola has written such an addictive book bringing two very unlikely characters together and making them sort out their crap. I loved the addition of Gypsy to the story and how she is forever her brother’s savior but also that she sees the writing on the wall for him. Nola has not given me the cliffhanger I normally see at the end of the book which makes me wonder if there will be a book two or not, but if not it is a great stand alone. I do think that it could be explored to have more in this as a series with all the characters added at the end. Very sexy read and very fulfilling to my imagination!

Review: Will to Live

Fifth book in the Zombie Overload Series.

Canada, Nick, and Vicki escape and are on the run. All she wants to do is get back to her family, but if it isn’t a zombie trying to kill her, it’s one of the living. Some answers will be revealed, more zombies will attack, and the journey won’t get any easier.

Review by Marinda (Admin)

This was a gift from the author for an honest review. Let me start by saying this IS NOT a stand alone novel. You need to start with book one Dying to Live and read all four to know what is going on with Canada, Will, Jake and everyone else. This isn’t just a zombie series, it’s about how the world and the people in it evolve and learn to survive. C.M. Wright has taken an average, slightly overweight, bi-polar housewife and turned her into a badass survivor. Canada and her family create a safe haven, or as safe as you can be during a zombie apocalypse. The story is action packed and fast paced. I read it in one setting, I couldn’t put it down. Each book just keeps getting better, if I could give it more than 5 fangs I would. This is definitely a MUST read series for all you zombie lovers out there. http://www.amazon.com/Will-Live-Zombie-Overload-ebook/dp/B00G1XIGQ0/ref=la_B00A02TX3S_1_6?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1382556663&sr=1-6

REVIEW- For Your Heart by A.L. Davroe

foryourheart

Book Description:

Experience THE BALLAD OF TAM LIN like you’ve never read it before…

It has been seven years since Jeanette Sauderheim followed her best friend into Carver Hall Park…and came out alone. Jeanette has never gotten over his mysterious disappearance nor has she gone back into the park. While that traumatic night still haunts her, Jeanette distracts herself by balancing her time between trying to pass Spanish, hanging out with her friends, and reading the latest manga.

But, when a promise to a friend drives her back into the park, she’s forced to re-live the memories of that night. Lost and confused, Jeanette crosses paths with Tamrin, whose violent reaction to her provides yet another reason to avoid the park.

Tamrin, a knight of the Summer Court, has been sent to Earth to guard a garden of roses that hold special meaning to the queen of the Summer faeries. When his distraction at meeting Jeanette leads to her picking one of the Summer Queen’s roses, Tamrin vows to right his failure to do his duty.

However, the equivalent of one of the queen’s roses is a human heart and Tamrin’s reluctance to readily exact the sum from Jeanette sets in motion a spiral of love, betrayal, and magic that could mean damnation for them both.

*This is an Upper YA paranormal romance novel with NA and contemporary fantasy appeal.

Review:

This book was given to me by the author through PR&ATR.
First off I am not at all familiar with the legend of Tam-Lin however I now feel the need to look into it!
Where do you even begin with this amazing story! At first I thought this was going to be a little off my normal reads, but I was quickly hooked. I love the whole 2 worlds with mortals living with immortals, faeries, gate of hell, the queens of different seasons.
You have Jeanette, a devote Catholic and follows all the rules. Jeanette has seen some hardship as her mom died, she lost her best friend on Halloween 7 years prior. Jeanette just can’t seem to find her happiness although being an anime lover seems to help. Who doesn’t love some Doctor Who! (new fan of that myself). Jeanette is best friends with Emily, Amber and Celeste who all are very strong characters as well. Jeanette father is the Principal of the Private school and Carver hill park in the middle of the grounds.
Jeanette being daring and breaking the rules of being grounded decided to conquer her fear of Carver hill park, mind you this is the park that her and Timmy were in when he went missing…Jeanette runs into a beautiful rose bush..well more lead to it by the faeries, Jeanette smells the rose and picks the rose and there appears Tam.
Tam states that he needs Jeanette heart as payment to the Queen of Summer Roxel. And quite frankly I love how strong this character is!! She is a hag to put it nicely but a rather strong but not overbearing strong character!
You learn so much more on the secondary characters like Celeste who I was not a fan of until almost the end of the book. Amber and Emily amazing fun friends. Twyla has a story to tell as well! And so does this amazing man Connor you hear little about but boy does he sound dreamy!!
Over all I give this 5 fangs! Look forward to more read from A.L. Davroe as this was my first read of hers!  By Ashley (Independent Reviewer)

Review:
This book was give to me by Paranormal Romance & Authors That Rock and the author for an honest review. I really liked this book, it was a different look at Heaven,Hell,God,Lucifer, angels and demons.  The archangel Michael has banished his youngest brother the  archangel Omega to earth in mortal form for bringing the Antichrist Damien to Heaven. What reason did Omega have for bringing Damien to Heaven to face God?  The archangel Gabriel watches over him and along the way there are flashbacks of Omega’s memories about Damien. The interactions between Heaven,Hell, Fate and humans are complex and how we perceive what is good and evil not what you would expect. I give it 4 fangs and look forward to book two. Review- Allegiant by Sara Mack and Abbie Gail Lemmon

cover

Description:

Publication Date: October 4, 2013
** Allegiant by Sara Mack is the second novel in The Guardian Trilogy. It is not affiliated with the Divergent series by Veronica Roth. **Last summer, Emma discovered that true love never dies.
It can return.
It can give you hope.
It can pull you from darkness.

Until it’s ripped from you.
Again.
As her 22nd birthday approaches, Emma Donohue finds herself back at school and utterly alone. Hours away from family and friends, her solitary days are spent contemplating what never should have been. James should never have died, but he did. He should never have been assigned as her Guardian, but he was. And she should never have allowed Dane to get too close to her heart.
But she failed.

Desperate to fill her time, Emma is intrigued by her mysterious new neighbor, Garrett. She’s never met anyone quite like him before, and, curious, she attempts to discover his past. Little does she know his presence will pull her into a world she could never imagine. A world that follows an ancient doctrine. A world built on loyalty, yet plagued by secrets and lies.
A world that will threaten everything – and everyone – she loves.

Allegiant is a new adult/college paranormal romance containing moderate language/mild innuendo.
Allegiant is the second story in The Guardian Trilogy. The third novel, Reborn, is complete and due to be published in February 2014.

Review:
5 fangs!! This book was a gift from the author for an honest review. Let me start by saying this is part two of a trilogy and just as good if not better than book one. In this book a lot of questions get answered but then more are created. I love how Emma hangs on to her love James and learns more about the Guardians. She learns who her next door neighbor is and what James is going through to stay with her. This is a very well written and thoughtful book and makes you think about the afterlife. I am very happy with this trilogy and can’t wait to see what happens next, and would give it more fangs if I could.
