Review: The Ripening by MJ Riley

ripe

August 12, 2014

Yuna is a fairly ordinary girl from an ordinary town. When she became friends with the dark and mysterious Luther in their youth, it was more from curiosity than any real allure.

Recently, however, the young woman has found herself longing for the nights in which he returns to her after his mysteriously monthly trips. Despite all the secrets he keeps and his disappearances, she’s never been more interested in, or confused by a man.

His sudden departure after an intimate encounter, however, sends her on a journey to discover the true nature of Luther and his family – and lands her in danger she never could have imagined.

review2
This is a great little novel that puts a slightly new spin on a genre that is one of the hottest out right now. Yuna is an average woman who has been friends with a shifter her entire life. She knows that once a month he leaves for a couple days but it is a family secret where they go and what they do. Luther has kept her as his best friend, but never let his shifter world, but as time passes up creeps the inevitable bond that tends to seep into relationships. It is forbidden for his race to mix with hers. While a tad predictable in the ending, I read this all in one sitting. The story flows well and I am eager to jump into book two to see what comes next. 5 fangs.

THE RIPENING (Dark Side of the Moon Book 1)

Review: Love Like You’ve Never Been Hurt by SJ McCoy

The Summer Lake contemporary romance series follows a group of friends from a small lakeside town in the California hills. They have kept in touch over the years and now, in their early thirties, their lives are drawing them back to Summer Lake and to each other.

Love Like You’ve Never Been Hurt

Emma Douglas came to Summer Lake as an orphan twenty three years ago. After losing her parents so young and later suffering a disastrous marriage, she believes that love only ever leads to pain and loss.

When she meets Jack Benson, the business partner of her childhood friend Pete, she sees everything she used to long for in a man; tall, dark, and drop dead gorgeous! Despite their undeniable attraction, Emma is too scared to risk her heart, especially on a man so much like her ex – sexy, smart, funny, successful and no doubt the same kind of cheat!

When events lead them both to Summer Lake for the summer, will Jack be able to persuade her that he’s nothing like her ex in all the ways that really matter? That the love she used to dream of isn’t a little girl’s fantasy, but a reality they can share if she can get past her fear and learn to trust?

This book is intended for adult readers 18+

*************************
Each Summer Lake Romance can be read as a stand alone book – no cliff hangers here! Each book contains one couple’s story. However, they are best read in order to get full enjoyment of the underlying story and friendships.

Book 1: Love Like You’ve Never Been Hurt Emma and Jack
Book 2: Work Like You Don’t Need the Money – Pete and Holly
Book 3: Dance Like Nobody’s Watching – Missy and Dan
Book 4: Fly Like You’ve Never Been Grounded – Smoke and Laura
Book 5: Laugh Like You’ve Never Cried – Michael and Megan

review2
Emma went through a bad divorce with a cheating husband and doesn’t trust men.
Jack is kind of a play boy…..that is until he runs into his business partners best friend Emma. Little do they know they will both be up at the lake at the same time over the summer. Emma, to just get away and spend time with her grandpa. Jack, to build a summer house for his business partner Peter.
Can Emma learn to trust again? Can Jack love only one woman?

Emma was a bit wishy washy. But going though a marriage with a cheating husband makes it a bit understandable. And all I can say about Jack is I love that man!
I can’t wait to finish the rest of series. 5 fangs.

Love Like You’ve Never Been Hurt (Summer Lake 1)

Review: Three Little Words by Lauren Hawkeye

Three

Two years ago serious, sexy law student Malachi “Mal” Hunter broke wild child Adele Cavanaugh’s heart. When Mal is thrown back into her life…and she meets Dorian Marshall, the bad boy lead singer of the Australian band Three Little Words, her analytical mind can’t compete with her racing heart (and other body parts that pulse).

Three Little Words quickly becomes Two Hot Choices, but Adele doesn’t know how to choose just one when they both help to ease her pain…and fuel so much pleasure.

Please note: this story also includes tattoos (hers), naughty touching (theirs), a cat named Humper, and brawling roller derby fun.

This book was previously released in the Unraveled box set, but this version contains extra scenes guaranteed to steam up your e-reader!

vampvampvampvampvamp

Malechai Hunter is cookie cutter at best. He tries to live up to what his dad wants for him and so he has entered law school. Preppy, shy and studious, he has dedicated his time to studying and getting ahead.

Adele is unique, from the tattoo’s that decorate her body to her vibrant personality. Studying to be a nurse, she never thought her world would be rocked by this preppy.

The differences soon collide in that Adele’s insecurities flair and Malechai is too weak to push against the societal norms in front of him. Before it is too late, he makes his attempt to apologize, but misses his chance.

Fast forward two years and we are face to face with hot musician Dorian. He is dominant and has a kinky streak. He is all about control and submission. How will Adele fit into that? And what happens when Adele learns that the hot alpha she is after is now rooming with the love of her life? How is she going to be able to choose? Will either man wait?

Adele is a fighter in this book, even though there are things that happen to her that should break her spirit, she continues to fight. Malechai realizes his strength too late in the game and has to fight for what he wants. Dorian is this sexy aussie musician that you just want to take against every surface you can find. Lauren Hawkeye has a way of making each character an individual and making you fall in love with them. She drafts such heated scenes that you find yourself running to a fan or jumping your significant other. The one thing that stuck in my craw with this book was a portion where after two years of abstinence, Adele has her first climax. About seven pages later she has her second, and it read “her first climax in two years”. It did not necessarily take away from the story but created an annoyance for me that I cannot get rid of. I still rate the book 5 fangs.

Three Little Words

A League of Her Own by Karen Rock

He was attractive, talented…and way off limits.

Heather Gadway may have been a world-class college pitcher and a top university coach, but she’s a rank amateur when it comes to managing the Falcons, her father’s struggling minor league team. And when it comes to managing her aggravating attraction to Garrett Wolf, their talented new pitcher. It’s going to be difficult enough to make it as the first female manager in the league and prove to her overly critical father she’s worthy. No distractions. No missteps. And certainly no romances with players. Everything stands between them—including their troubled pasts—even as Heather’s world falls apart and Garrett’s the one who’s there to catch her…

“What else do you want?” The question came from a part of her she didn’t recognize. Asking a man like Garrett a flirtatious question was playing with fire.

Garrett groaned, longing sharpening his features. “You.”

Without waiting for her response, his lips captured hers. She knew she should push him away, but instead her head fell back, her pulse leaping in her throat. The pressure was exquisite as he nibbled and explored. Soft. Warm. Gentle. His lips moved slowly, gradually exerting more pressure.

This felt incredible. Better than the last time. She had to stop this, but need seized her, shoving aside her good intentions.

Her body hummed and a fuzzy sensation filled her head, making it hard to focus on anything but the feel of him, the evergreen scent of the forest and his aftershave heightening her senses.

His hands gripped her waist as she swayed against him, holding her as his mouth sampled her lower lip, then put pressure on the top. Nerves sent small shock waves through her chest, and her hand rose to stroke the back of his neck, making him tremble against her.

Suddenly his kiss intensified, growing fierce and demanding. His lips moved fast against hers, their tongues tangling, causing warmth to explode in her body, melting every piece of her.

She moaned and Garrett’s arms tightened, bringing her closer still. Her lips maneuvered against his in response, loving his sweet taste. Garrett shuddered, curling his fist into her hair with a groan. She loved how her touch affected him, how it affected her.

At last his lips let her go, and he looked down at her tenderly, pleasure in his eyes, his chest rising and falling hard.

“I wasn’t getting involved with anyone. Planned to focus only on baseball,” he said when his breath came easier. “But I can’t stay away from you. You follow me, even in my sleep. Your eyes.” He kissed each lid. “Your smile.” He pressed his lips to each corner. “These freckles.” His warm mouth brushed her cheeks.

Her chest expanded, taking in his beautiful words. This incredible moment. And then it hit her, reality a cold shower.

She opened her eyes and scooted away. “Garrett. I don’t know.”

His eyes moved out over the falls, tracking the sprays of water as they hit the jutting rocks and tumbled to earth. “You don’t trust me.”

Her mouth opened and closed. He was right. While he touched a chord inside that’d never sounded for anyone else, she still couldn’t put her heart in harm’s way again. And she knew without a doubt that if Garrett let her down, he’d devastate her as much as her mother had. Even more. She’d loved and lost too many times to try again, especially with her father gone so recently.

“I’m sorry,” she said inadequately as he stood and helped her to her feet.

His blank expression gave little away. She wondered if, deep down, a part of him was relieved they weren’t taking things further. He’d said he hadn’t wanted distractions. And now she wouldn’t be one.

“I can’t make you believe in me, Heather.” His voice was steady and strong. “I need someone who’ll give me a chance to earn her trust.”

review2

I’m giving Seidremaidens by Katja Aronsen – 3.5 Fangs. I will say ahead of time this book wasn’t one of my comfort zone readings but I enjoyed it none the less.
In book one – Ms. Aronsen introduces us to the world of Wyrdfolk and Seidrmagick. This installment is the story of four teenagers with magic abilities that join together as each of them is a season. They are struggling as all normal teenagers do, but have the weight of saving the world on their shoulders as well. The story starts a bit scattered telling how Fenrin, the son of Loki may break his bonds and be able to destroy both the human world and the gods.
The story was very well written and you feel a part of the teenage angst. If you enjoy YA novels, paranormal and mystery then you should thoroughly enjoy Seidremaidens.

Enjoy an excerpt:

“Okay, okay,” I grumble, reaching my arm out, blindly trying to locate my phone, my head still nestled beneath the covers, with no intention of surfacing any time soon.

Whoever is trying to call me better have a damn good reason for doing so. I’m enjoying my sleep in, knowing I don’t have to start work until seven o’clock tonight. The phone ringing is beginning to drive me insane.

‘Ah ha!’ I finally find it hidden amongst last night’s clothes haphazardly thrown on the floor. Pulling my hand back under the covers, I answer the phone. “What?” I grumble.

“Bree, tell me you’re not still in bed?”

“Of course I’m still in bed, it’s still morning,” I snap at Elise. I’m not a morning person, never have been. It takes at least two cups of coffee to get me going and, of all people, Elise should know that. Especially if she wants me to be a little nicer right now.

“No, honey, it’s one o’clock, and would you like me to remind you that it’s Friday?”

“Of course I know it’s Friday, I’m singing at Skyla’s tonight. Now, let me get back to sleep.” She’s still on the other end of the phone, but there’s only silence, and I know she’s waiting for something. But what?

Then it hits me.

3 Fangs

Curve My Song, the first book in the Curvies series, introduces us to Elise, the artist with her own shop space, Skyla, who runs a coffee shop, and Bree, the singer. This is Bree and Taylor’s story. Bree left her small town to make a name for herself in the Big Apple. When this doesn’t work, after two months, she returns home and sings in local bars and gigs. Unlike her curvy friends, Bree feels lost at 28. She doesn’t know what is next in her life. The three girls grew up together, their moms were best friends, and they did everything together, including creating the Curvies. They spent the first 13 years growing up in Madison, Wisconsin, until their moms decided they needed a new town and moved to Seneca Falls, New York. When Taylor Cole returns after ten years away, Bree is in a tizzy. She’s had a crush on him since prom and wants to avoid seeing him. Well, her friends have a different idea, and do everything possible to throw them together. Taylor is determined Bree is not going to get away from him this time, which might have worked if he wasn’t hiding a big secret from her. Curve My Song is a cute, although predictable story, of three best friends, more like sisters really, and their love interests. A good set-up for the next in the series. This short story flows nicely with the added bonus of being about curvy women, who enjoy their assets.

I couldn’t have picked two men more opposing than they. One dark-headed, slightly controlling, but intuitive. The other all unruly copper curls, somewhat bashful, but sensual. Yet, my fall for them felt the same—hard and fast.

I never slept around or cheated, but when you’re the girl who got dumped for being too kinky–you realize and accept you are different. Somehow, some way, they had to be mine. My mind spun with what could be, and I set out to entice them with my fantasy.

Only, my plot had a twist…Royce and Shea were already lovers. Luckily for me, they liked to share.

Warning: Contains a headstrong daughter of nudist, hippy parents, an Alpha with seriously protective instincts, positive representations of Asperger’s Syndrome and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, and oh yeah, M/M, M/M/M, M/M/F, and M/F/M.

Champagne always made her giggly and warm and tingly.  Especially tingly. If she’d had a man, you better believe she would be fucked six ways from Sunday right about now. Instead, Luna found herself finishing off a few reports after saying goodnight to the guys. It had been a stellar day. Phase Two—by far the largest coup in their plan—had been firmly achieved. Royce had broken out the champagne, and Luna managed to consume copious amounts before promising the men she would call a cab when she was ready to head out for the night. They were reluctant to leave her behind, but their desire to do a little personal celebrating of their own was palpable. Far be it for her to stand in the way of the double dose of the pure male need and testosterone that engulfed the room.

Since she and Shea had become fast friends, he had divulged more than his share of their passionate tale to her over the last six months, even though she felt sure that he’d kept it toned down for her benefit. Still, she felt like she could read them. When she noticed little things, like the way Royce’s fingertips would curl possessively around Shea’s bicep at the end of even the briefest touch or when Shea’s eyes would suddenly shine brighter while Royce presented the most boring of facts and figures, Luna would glance to the others present in the room to see if they, too, were aware of exactly how sexual … how sensual … their bosses were. But, it seemed she alone picked up on these things. No raised eyebrows. No gossip around the water cooler.

That made her wonder if she was actually picking up on things, or if she was just perving on the gorgeous duo. Her subconscious picked that moment to send X-rated images flitting across her brain, involuntarily making her squeeze her crossed legs tighter. In an effort to halt her mind’s deviant trajectory, she grasped at the water bottle to her right, only to send it spinning across the desk until it toppled over the edge and skittered across the floor to come to a halt by the door.

Deciding she had probably done enough damage for the night, she saved all her documents and logged out of the computer before jotting herself a note. Sticking it to the computer, she laughed out loud at the message. You were drunk and horny last night, double check your files before sending.  A little unsteady, she made her way to the abused water bottle, figuring she should refill it to stay hydrated. She’d call for a cab and head home to finish off the night with some Pinot and some porn. This time she actually giggled out loud. Pinot and porn. God, if only to have the third P present. Oh well, she thought, wiggling her fingers in front of her face, you’ll have to do.

She ended up tiptoeing down the hall, cringing at how dark and still it was when no one was around. Just when she seemed to become accustomed to the difference, she heard them. Moans and groans and curses and near shouts. Luna froze for a moment before understanding hit her with her blunt force. Where her body tingled before—now it sang. Where she’d been warm—she blazed. Her eyes flew to the partially closed door of Royce and Shea’s office, only daring to listen for a moment longer before she turned on her heel and darted back to her own office.

Her water bottle hit the floor with a clang as she slammed the door behind her. Wincing at the loud noise, she waited a moment to see if she would be discovered before rushing over to her desk. Only a security light from the hall cast a dull ray of light into her office. She eased herself into her chair and spun it so that she faced the windows. Luna’s face burned anew as she recalled the frantic words exchanged between Royce and Shea. Even her wicked imagination had not done them justice.

She could make out her own expression in the glass—pupils blown, hair disheveled, clothes askew. Taking a few calming breaths, Luna closed her eyes tightly, but as soon as she did, images of the two men locked in a passionate embrace flooded her brain.

Fuck me, Royce.

Take every inch of me. You like that don’t you? When I pull your hair, you nearly come undone.

Fuck yeah. Please, Royce.

Luna would do anything to have those words lavished upon her, to be able to say those very things to them. So, she pretended they included her. That she was the object of their desire and they were hers. The little app on her iPad filled with the gay porn blogs she’d become addicted to after meeting the men had nothing on the heat those two created within her. She couldn’t have stopped her hands if she’d tried. The things had a mind of their own when they bunched her loosely flowing skirt around her waist and dove into her panties. Her fingers circled her clit for a moment before dipping into the searing wetness. She fingered herself hard for a moment, even throwing her own hand over her mouth to muffle the obscene noises threatening to bubble from her throat.

When her clit throbbed with need, she pushed her thumb to it.

Pressed.

Teased.

Pinched.

Repeated the pattern again and again.

When she felt herself on the verge of coming, Luna shoved both fingers in her vagina again.

Rotated them.

Spread them.

She liked it rough. Fuck, did she like it rough. She held her breath, knowing that would make her orgasm all the more intense. Her head slammed back against the chair. Her hips circled to ride her fingers to the finish.

Then her fingers were replaced by Royce’s. Fuck, but they were thick and demanding.

She needed Shea too. She pinched her lips together so that she could remove her hand. That hand flew down to squeeze one nipple. Hard. It was Shea thumbing the bud and then twisting so hard, asking if she liked that. Yes, Shea. Just like that, Luna moaned.

Royce told her to fuck his hand like she meant it, so she did. He needed to know she meant it. She cried out his name.

She bent and bucked and writhed. Then she came.

Silently.

Harshly.

Harder than she’d ever come before.

Her men smiled at each other. Then at her. Then they kissed, almost chastely, counteracting the wild moment. They kissed her. She tasted them on each other. Royce pressed his fingers into her mouth, and Luna licked them clean before he removed them and sucked her tongue into his mouth.

Luna’s body seemed to melt into the chair. Time was suspended. Her breaths were shallow and hot. Once she opened her eyes, she knew they would disappear, taking their sweet kisses and their panty-combusting commands with them. She almost couldn’t bear it. Right now, their presence was so strong she could almost feel it.

With a deep sigh, she let her fingers fall from her mouth and her breast.  Both hands dropped to the chair with a thud. She giggled again at how deeply sated she was.

Only, her giggle seemed to echo. But it was deeper. Richer. More masculine.

She was drunker than she thought.

Luna’s eyes fluttered open and closed. Open and closed. She finally fixed her stare on the glass where twin gazes of amusement shone back at her. One an intense blue. The other a mesmerizing hazel.

Too late to pretend embarrassment, Luna swallowed her nerves and met their eyes with her own.

“Luna, dear girl,” Royce tsked, “if only we’d known.”

Shea dipped his head and bit Royce’s shoulder. “God, if we’d known,” he groaned.

Luna chose to believe that the champagne made her bold when she brazened, “And if you’d known?”

“That’s simple, darling. We could have celebrated. The three of us. Together,” Royce declared.

Inside, she gasped, even though she hoped she remained steadfast in appearance. But you’re both gay. Why would you want me? Her naïveté won in the end when she whispered, “But how would that even work?”

Royce spun her chair around to face them as they sat perched on her desk. “Any way we want.”

review2

I’m still not how i feel about this book, it was truly steamy read that’s for sure, I did enjoyed it but I felt there was something missing from the story. I didn’t feel any connection to the characters at all. The book is really short and it focus’s on how the three characters met and fall in love. Its quit cute a really sweet to read about these characters coming together.

Our main Characters are Shea, Royce and Luna  the three of them are in a committed three way relationship, which suits all three of them, but what happens when one of them wants to tell the world about their unconventional love life, will everyone be so open minded. Or will they lose it all in a blink of an eye.

Ive never been a big fan of cliffhangers and this really out did itself. So if you love reading hot steamy m/m and m/m/f with a splash of romance this will be your book to read, but keep in mind that you will not find the answers you seek, unless you read book 2!

I would rate this 3 out of 5 fangs

The Arrangement: The Chase by Lauren Hawkeye *Review

arrange

September 3, 2014

THIS IS A NEW STORY FROM HM WARD’S THE ARRANGEMENT SERIES VIA KINDLE WORLDS. IT IS A CATEGORY LENGTH NOVEL OF 50 000 WORDS.

From New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author Lauren Hawkeye/ Lauren Jameson…

Carly Daniels grew up in the gutter and thought she’d been through the worst life had to offer. She’s scraped and clawed her way to a college scholarship, but a betrayal from her own mother shows her that life doesn’t always play fair. Sick of scrabbling to make ends meet, Carly finds the answer to her need for quick cash in a job as a high priced call girl for the mysterious and kinda scary Miss Black.

Rocker Adam Kincaid isn’t interested in women. At least, he never has been before. But something about the determined, fresh faced young escort pulls at him. He tries to write it off as momentary insanity, but when fate drops the scrappy, sexy brunette in his lap, he rethinks his position.

Adam does what any sane, hedonistic rock star would do… he kidnaps her. His goal?

Chase her down, no matter her preconceptions of him…

Chase her down, and make her his.

This story features appearances by Sean Ferro, Miss Black, Henry Thomas and Trystan Scott.

*This book has been professionally edited.*

Oh my! Carly is a woman who has to make hard choices to survive. It has been part of her life since she was young. Her mother’s choices, again are putting her in the position of being a call girl. At least now, she can earn something for the use of her body right?
As she is heading into her first night of employment, she is face to face with one of the hottest rockers on the scene. This man is hot, but way above Carly’s station so why should she even try to impress him. Furthermore, he is absolutely not interested in women.
Well, as Lauren Hawkeye often does, she takes the reader on the path of the unexpected. I can honestly say there was not a single point in this book that was predictable. I adored the banter between Adam and Carly. I love that they both have their own insecurities and demons. What an amazing story, I literally swallowed whole. I don’t know how she does it, but Lauren has this fabulous ability to write the hottest sex scenes even when I have no idea how the scene will work out given all the back story. 5 very hot fangs for this one!

Biography

Lauren Hawkeye/ Lauren Jameson never imagined that she’d wind up telling stories for a living… though when she looks back, it’s easy to see that she’s the only one who is surprised. Always “the kid who read all the time”, Lauren made up stories about her favorite characters once she’d finished a book… and once spent an entire year narrating her own life internally. No, really. But where she was just plain odd before publication, now she can at least claim to have an artistic temperament.

Lauren lives in the Rocky Mountains of Alberta, Canada with her husband, toddler, pit bull and idiot cat, though they do not live in an igloo, nor do they drive a dogsled. In her nonexistent spare time Lauren can be found knitting (her husband claims that her snobby yarn collection is exorbitant), reading anything she can get her hands on, or sweating her way through spin class. She loves to hear from her readers!

Kayli Winchester is a dirt-poor girl living out of a hotel, forced to be the parent for a drunken father and teenage brother who she’s desperate to keep in school. The only way she scrapes by is to utilize her one skill: pickpocketing. But even though she’s a thief she has a moral code: no kids or old ladies, only targets who can defend themselves. Not that they see her coming…

Thinking she’s been working under the radar, Kayli has no idea The Academy has been watching and taking notice. Now a team that needs her skill has offered her a way out of her predicament and it’s her last chance: work with them, or face jail time. Kayli resists at first, but slowly the boys reveal they can be trusted. With Marc, the straight man, Raven, the bad-boy Russian, Corey and Brandon the twins as different as night and day, and Axel their stoic leader, there’s a lot Kayli can learn from these Academy guys about living on the edge of the law. If only she can stay on the good side instead of the bad.

Especially when the job they offer her is more than any of them bargained for. After it’s done, the hunters have become the hunted and their target is now after Kayli. The Academy boys do their best to keep her hidden, but a thief like Kayli will never sit still for long.

Meet an all-new Academy team in Thief, the beginning of the Scarab Beetle series.

Enjoy an excerpt:

Men are brilliantly stupid.

For one thing, guys carry the most cash with them anywhere. Didn’t anyone ever tell them cash was dead?

I nestled myself in one of the side branches of Citadel Mall. I picked my way through a Claire’s but the lights were too bright reflecting off the sparkling plastic and crystals of the teeny bopper jewelry and handbags. I ducked into a shoe store where the lighting was dimmer and the window wasn’t as obstructed. Waiting was the hardest part.

My favorite place to find dumb guys with lots of cash was the mall. Always fairly crowded on a weekend; I could count on at least a couple of twenties for every wallet I temporarily borrowed.

I never kept all of it. Forty to sixty dollars at the most. Not enough to bother reporting to the cops. I didn’t mess with credit cards, or bother with selling ID cards. That’s the kind of crazy stuff that gets you sent to prison. I always left the wallets and the rest of the leftovers tucked away in the food court and on benches where management would see it and find the owner. That way, the people wouldn’t have to get new ID, which is a huge hassle.

And they never suspected a thing. All they saw when I accidentally bumped into them was batting eyelashes and as much cleavage as I could muster the absurdity to expose without dry heaving.
