He went into the Running never planning to find a mate. She was frightened, with no idea what to expect…Ready. Set. RUN.
Blythe has been summoned to be in the Running; an annual event where shifters are let out of their jails for twelve hours and released into an arena to find a mate. Every year, ten human girls are placed in the stadium, armed, and given three ways out: elude the shifters and remain uncaptured, kill one and escape, or be caught and become their captor’s mate. Forever.
Killian is a tiger shifter with a dark past that has left him cold and believing that love is a weakness. He never thought his chance would come, but this year he’s been called up to participate in the Running and will be forced to select a mate, knowing that he will never truly love her.
When the two lock eyes in the arena, a shiver of fear and lust runs down Blythe’s spine. Will she be able to escape? Does she even want to? And if she’s claimed by the hardened man staring back at her, will she be able to make him believe in love again?
Hayley Cyrus has created a world that not only has supernatural elements in the shifters but also captures a post-apocalyptic feel as well in the aforementioned Running. While Blythe is a relatively innocent and has been sequestered by being in a family without many conveniences, I still found myself wondering more about this world and at points didn’t quite understand why things were set up the way they were. The main elements of a romance were very definitely present, especially with the volatile temperaments of the confined characters The world itself just remained more of a question mark to me.
That said, though, the author does give us several strong characters and takes time to build up the various relationships that the protagonist builds as she restarts her life. Its in this area that the writer shines, and this book is a very readable diversion. As I’ve said frequently before on other reviews, I’m curious to see her further works as she (hopefully) continues on her writing career.

Beauty and the Beast (Box Set)

The Beauty
Sharp teeth and claws don’t scare Belle. What does? The man in her village who won’t take no for an answer. So when a monster in the woods imprisons her father, Belle is easily convinced to take his place. Things at the castle aren’t exactly the fairy tale she thought they would be, including disgruntled servants who are less than happy that she’s there, naughty library books that magically appear in her room, and a vengeful enchantress determined to finish the job she started.
The Beast
It’s been a decade since he was cursed, unable to leave the castle, but his servants can come and go as they like. Even if they aren’t exactly themselves anymore. And worse? It’s all his fault – his foolish decisions that cost them their humanity, his family their lives and his kingdom its ruler. So when a beautiful girl falls into his lap, he does his best to scare her away, no matter how bad it makes him look. Why? Because he knows that whoever did this isn’t done yet, and there are more dangers in his corner of the woods than Belle knows.
When worst comes to worst, and it looks like they’re about to lose everything, can Belle and her Beast learn to trust each other enough to find their happily ever after?

Garrett Tucker inherits his grandfather’s casino empire and steps into the reclusive billionaire’s shoes as the “Prince of Vegas.” His first act is to buy a bankrupt casino in Biloxi. When he discovers embezzling in his new operation, Garrett goes undercover. His prime suspect is the new finance supervisor–the spitfire brunette who stole his heart at first sight.
Andi Ryan moves to Biloxi to care for her godmother and takes a job as finance supervisor for the renovated Bayou Princess casino. She discovers someone is skimming from the till and starts her own investigation, worried she will be blamed for the theft when the new owner discovers her godmother has a gambling addiction.
Garrett’s rival Vegas competitor has sent in a spy to ruin the Bayou Princess, and Garrett and Andi are forced to work together to prove her innocence and discover the identity of their casino spy.
This was a really interesting story! While it sticks to your basic boy-meets-girl romance, it’s the back stories and intrigues the author tosses in that really make it awesome! The characters attracted me instantly, the heroine is sweet but not completely incapable of having a backbone and the hunk is thoughtful but not perfect.
As he struggles with personal tragedy and sudden changes, Garrett is in danger of missing out on a fantastic woman. Can he come to his senses and balance both business and pleasure? Will she forgive him for his deception, cause you KNOW she will find out. They always do!
As an independent reviewer for Romance Authors that Rock, I gave this one a full five hearts for touching mine several times! It’s got a few steamy spots, so keep the kids supervised!

Old secrets, new threats…What are they willing to sacrifice?
Philadelphia police officer Kylee Parker is dedicated to protecting and serving. She sees the work in absolutes: right and wrong, black and white, good guys and bad guys. That is, until she chases a drug dealer into a dead-end alley and finds the bad boy she had a painful crush on throughout her teen years has turned into a more dangerous and more attractive man.
Jayson Donovan knows he doesn’t deserve someone as good as Kylee Parker. As the right hand man to a local drug-pushing mobster, he’s solidly on the wrong side of Kylee’s moral compass. But he can’t help reaching for her time and again when he knows he shouldn’t.
Even when his secrets threaten them both.
This 3 part book follows the unlikely relationship between Kylee and Jayson. Part 1 reunites cop Kylee with criminal Jayson, whom she had a pretty massive crush on in high school. Jayson had a horrible childhood and never felt good enough for Kylee. Although, she’s troubled by his work, they begin their relationship, until tragedy strikes Kylee and Jayson is pressured to leave. Part 2 brings Jayson back years down the road and had me screaming “I knew it!!” Twice. Not going to say what, but it’s a great twist. Now they have to figure out their new relationship with many challenges. Part 3 brings them a new tragedy and brings Kylee and Jayson back together. This book was FULL of different twists and action. All characters were full-bodied characters and even supporting characters were interesting. My only complaint was that in scenes that there were multiple speakers, it was hard to decipher who was speaking as it’s not clearly written. There are also a few editing issues, but I liked it enough to still give it 5 hearts.
